  1. It’s 1hr and 30mins with no interval. This is the link about it from roh website: https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/the-royal-ballet-class-on-stage-details
  2. Yes it’s still available not sure how long it is I’ll check roh website x
  3. Ticket for Royal Ballet class on stage at 11.30am for sale. Seat is orchestra stalls B-29. £20.
  4. Aww thanks Viv I went to my current teacher having in Jan 2022, at that point I’d done about 8 months of in person classes and before that I’d been doing online classes in lockdown since 2020 or 2021 I forget now so I wasn’t 💯 new. I told her I wanted to do the exams to give me something to work towards. I’d expected I’d be starting with grade 1 (like I did when I was studying cello at music school) but she advised me to start with IF. I have struggled to learn the syllabus (still got to learn allegros 2 and 3 and finish learning Variation 1) and am aiming for exam in June 2022 by which point I’ll have had 18 months of lessons with this teacher so it’s taken me a while. My teacher has said I’m aiming for a pass (a merit would be a dream come true) but I’ll take a pass with both hands. If I’m honest I’d hoped to be aiming for a merit but I think that’s not realistic for me as an adult beginner. Yes I agree @Vivit’s so hard to learn steps when you’ve not been dancing since childhood. I think adult beginners deserve a massive pat on the back.
  5. Yasss 🤣 Lol if the ballet incident room was real I’d have spent a LOT of time in there over the last year for crimes against ballet 🤣 And @Alexanderdon’t forget Kung Fu Panda foot (said when leg not turned out in developee or tendu to second). Absolute gold 🤣
  6. Haha the lovely Hannah Frost says this - love it 🤣 Do a mini plié - no, smaller than that - imagine you’ve gone to the pub and ordered a Bailey’s and they’ve given you the tiniest ever amount and it’s so small you wish you’d never bothered to order it - that’s how small a plie. 🤣
  7. @The_Red_Shoes fantastic! Good job. Keeping my fingers crossed for your results.
  8. Wishing you the best of luck for tomorrow. Enjoy ❤️🩰💪
  9. No, I did mention to my teacher that maybe I could start with G1 seeing as I’d not danced before but she said I’d be best off doing the intermediate foundation exam.
  10. @Alex73In addition to what has been written above about Mayerling one could argue that there is also emotional abuse of Rudolf by his mother in the form of withholding affection.
  11. Some thoughts on last night's performance: 1. Matthew Ball was a fabulous Rudolf - brutal, but at the same time he could be very tender with the women. What a spectacular dancer. 2. I hope Anna Rose didn’t hit her head as she landed to the floor with an audible clunk in one part of the pdd. It did add to the realism of Matthew Ball’s character though 3. Mayara Magri is a beautiful dancer - every part of the music is expressed perfectly with little flourishes - her timing and acting were impeccable. I’ve not fully appreciated her as much as I did last night. 3. Nagdhi and Ball dance so beautifully together. The trust they have in each other really shines out into the audience. 4. Some of the Swan dives in the PDD’s - I was on the edge of my seat thinking the ladies were hurtling towards the ground at severe head injury generating speed. So exciting. 5. There really is not much happiness in Mayerling as a story. It really puts one’s emotions into a dark place. Not sure if I like such darkness but a real testament to the RB dancers to be able to evoke that and transport the audience to that place.
  12. Yes same here it was very physical - she audibly bashed onto the floor at one point as he threw/put her down on the ground.
  13. Thanks for the link @JohnS I wonder who’s going to be Mitzi tonight? - it’s blank next to that role
  14. Thank you. It’s good to know what they’re called. I didn’t dance as a child but remember seeing someone doing these jumps in a film and clearly remember being able to do them multiple times side to side without a second thought. Glad your mock went well. Good luck for 29th. @Vivany news? Xx
  15. Yes - the Fille piece lacked a certain spark for me too. And agree 100% that Diamonds was a tonic to the current national climate of doom and gloom. Also I felt the same about Prima and For Four that the dancers were dancing alongside one another rather than together, but I didn’t mind that. The Osipova / McRae didn’t work for me for some reason. Can’t put my finger on why. Maybe her energy overshadowed him idk. @MJW agree about the music for dispatch duet - there were parts of it that were unpleasant listening. Didn’t like it.
  16. Just on my way home after seeing the matinee. Some brief thoughts: 1. Did not like the Prima costumes. The worst one for me was Fumi’s - totally obscured her beautiful lines. The full length maroon get up totally prevented me properly from seeing what she was doing. Why were the skirts so bulky? Ugh @Fontyagree with you - the RB costume department could’ve made something much better. And the bulky part of the skirt around Mayara’s hips - why??? The tops were not too bad but the skirts 🤢 2. Love love love Reece Clark - his solo in Diamonds was breathtaking. 2b. The Diamonds costume and set were stunning - the costume department at RB are something else ❤️ 3. The joy on Marianela’s face when she dances is so heartwarming. I feel like every time I see her is a gift. My favourite dancer ever. 4. My word Melissa Hamilton is flexible - really enjoyed Qualia. What an exquisite technique she has. 5. Matthew Ball is mesmerising to watch - something about his quality of movement just constantly drew my eye in For Four. I can’t articulate it but I felt he really connected to the audience in that piece. Note to self have to specifically book to see him more. 6. Vasko Vassilev gave a stunning performance of the Saint-Saens Violin Concerto. 7. I liked the Toonga and the Tanowitz and I wasn’t expecting to at all as I’m not a massive fan of contemporary. The Toonga was very moving - a thought provoking portrayal of (gang) violence & war. 8. Love Akane Takada and Calvin Richardson together - the chemistry really worked for me and they brought the scene from Manon to life so very perfectly even given the short time they had. A real testament to their skill in transporting the audience. I’m not generally an emotional type, but I was welling up. 9. Why don’t the audience get more exited at ROH? I literally want to whoop and cheer after every major solo (especially today for Reece Clark and Matthew Ball) but have to restrict myself to some polite applause or nothing at all 😭 I’m always very self conscious of being too loud in case the people around me don’t like it. 10. Wished it was Anna Rose and Marcelino in the Fille piece - not that Ms Hinkis and Luca Acri weren’t brilliant because they were and I adored watching them but I remember the cheekiness of Anna Rose and Marcelino when they did the lockdown stream that was on BBC i player and I’d hoped to see that. OK so not very brief thoughts in fact😂. I’d be interested to hear what anyone else who was there today thought.
  17. If only that was the case Lin - I agree it should be though. So far in trying to do allegro 2 for intermediate foundation I’ve landed with my toe bent underneath myself during a glissade and have literally hit the deck one time trying to do a jump I could easily do as a child (don’t know what said jump is called but it involves swishing both legs out to side in air and clicking ankles Dick Van Dyke style so not ballet but still 😂) Gravity is not my friend as an adult beginner . I could do said jumps side to side so easily as a child but tried once and found myself on the floor. Lucky I didn’t break my hip. I agree Lin they should give me at least half marks in acknowledgement of the danger factor involved 😂
  18. Good luck for your mock exam and for the 29th. Looking forward to hearing how you get on x
  19. Yes I love it when they do that I’ve seen Marianela do it before - so thoughtful and respectful of the male dancers performance.
  20. Yes agreed - flowers do look a lot nicer than the male dancers standing on stage having been presented with a power tool 🤣
  21. I think the male dancers should be asked if it’s something they want and if not what they would prefer. If my husband got a bouquet I think he’d be embarrassed (not that he’s a dancer though). As a man I think he’d like a bottle of champagne or a slab of beer or even a hamper of food or fancy toiletries or a power tool, but flowers not so much. I agree not only the ladies should be presented with something after the performance though, just that some men may feel uncomfortable about receiving flowers.
  22. Love your podcast Julia & Brandon. I’m quite new to baller and am having a wonderful time working my way through the past episodes. It’s made my commute to work something I look forward to. The episode with Mrs Nagdhi was fascinating, she is clearly a very wise and grounded lady - having a mum like that must’ve been absolute gold whilst going through ballet training and rising through the ranks. Love the episode with Leanne Benjamin too - especially the part where she said her fantasy ballet would be her and David Beckham in a private studio doing very intimate choreography that would involve her having to wrap her legs around him a lot 🤣🔥. Anna Rose O’Sullivan was a delight to listen to as well. Can’t wait to discover what other gems are in the back episodes as well as looking forward to new ones.
