  1. Aww thank you. Looks like I’ll be London bound ASAP then - yayy! Thanks for all the tips 🙏😊
  2. Thanks 😊 She just said to go to whatever shop is nearest me. She said any shoes except Gaynor Minden’s. I’m not too far from London so maybe I’ll take a trip idk x
  3. Thanks Ballet Bean that’s reassuring as I think she’s based in Essex. Having said that Covent Garden is under an hour by train so maybe it’s worth making a trip to the big smoke idk x
  4. Hello dancers! My teacher has asked me to get some pointe shoes, but I don’t know where to start. I’m 45 and started ballet last year on a background of several years of yoga and weight training. Any recommendations of where to get my first fitting done would be very much appreciated, preferably local to Essex. I know there is a lady on Instagram that does fittings based in Essex, but she only works with Grishko - not sure if that matters or not? If anyone has any advice I’d really appreciate it. Thank you x

  6. Hello Michelle, I’m so sorry to hear you and your partner have Covid. I hope you are both feeling better very soon. I too tested positive 4 days ago now and I feel your frustration about not being able to dance. I am really annoyed as it’s caused me to miss my second ever private lesson. I’d only just found a teacher that teaches adults for exams and she said I’d be doing my rad intermediate and pointe work at the end of this year or next year 😮 Also missed my usual weekly pineapple zoom class with Hannah Frost which I really look forward to every week. I hate missing class 😭
  7. Yes peanut you are right. I can shed some light on classical music training having been at music school on weekends until age 18. Reading this it seems that dance training is a lot more brutal, especially in terms of the criticisms levelled at students being quite personal and sometimes body image related rather than just limited to comments about technique. Having said that music school was pretty brutal. We were made to play our parts solo in front of the whole orchestra of 100 people if we messed up for humiliation purposes, in sectionals we would be having to play our parts in front of rest of our section of 10 others for similar public humiliation. Yearly auditions to determine which ensemble we were in and our rank in it. Bitchiness and nasty comments from others that didn’t make where they wanted to be. When I was promoted to principal cellist I had to put up with bitchy comments to rest of section from my desk partner saying I couldn’t play. I can see many parallels to the dance world. Also my time at medical school was similar in terms of how we were treated as students with frequent public humiliations. Overall it’s sad, but it seems that any highly competitive environment is thus. It just seems more pronounced in dance. It’s not the best way to learn imo and possibly selects those that are thick skinned rather than those who have the most potential.
  8. Hello! I started ballet last year. Initially I was doing one 1hr class a week, but I found once I started to take 3 classes a week a couple of months ago I really started to improve. Also strength training (I do 2-4 hours of weights a week) has really helped. Are there any classes in your area you could attend? This is the best way to improve by consistently going to class.
  9. Update: I’ve been attending my usual Monday evening class at my local school as well as Hannah Frosts Classes once a week on zoom. I signed up to Broche ballet and tried some of their pre recorded classes too. So all in all I’ve been doing around 3 classes a week of late. Sadly due to childcare and having Covid at the moment not been able to get into London to David Kierce’s class again 😭 Also I found a school 45 mins from me that teaches adults to exam standard and had my first ever private lesson there last weekend. I was quite shocked when the teacher said I could do the rad intermediate exam later this year or next year and that my feet were good (very flexible with high arches apparently - who knew) and I’d be quite capable of doing pointe work and exams at some point in the next year or two. Well you could’ve blown me over with a feather. Not sure if that sounds right to everyone on here? I’m taking it all with a big grain of salt at the moment in view of my age (45) and the fact that I’ve only been doing this since 2021. I know kids don’t go en pointe until they’ve been training for many years so 🤷‍♀️ Don’t get me wrong I’m reasonably strong and flexible for my age and have always done weights and yoga also I have hypermobility but still, I won’t lie I was shocked (in a good way) and not sure if I fully believe it. If I’m honest I feel like a total traitor for getting a private lesson at a different school as my local school are amazing but I know they don’t normally teach adults for exams and was too embarrassed to ask in case they laughed at me - I have such internal conflict about it though. Does that sound stupid? Anyway it means a lot to have the support of the lovely ppl on here 😊
  10. Oh and the lead mandolin dancer Joonhyuk Jun 😮😮😮😮 loved his solo - can’t believe he’s an artist and not a soloist. He was fantastic.
  11. Oh Marianela what a stunningly beautiful Juliet you were this evening 🥰🥰🥰 Just got home and I’m too tired to coherently articulate my thoughts, but the first pdd between Nela & Fede moved me to tears. Pure magic. I literally believed in their joyous love at their first meeting. Nela shone love out into the audience and danced so joyously - perfection. My first time watching Marianela and she blew me away 😮😮😮
  12. I’ve got a ticket for tomorrow night 7.30pm - lower slips - £10 ono forgot to return it to box office so any reasonable offer accepted.
  13. Gosh I’m really sorry to hear that it’s still ongoing that must be very frustrating for you. Thank you for detailing those exercises. It’s my first in person class back after Christmas tonight so I’m going to explain the situation to my teacher and ask her what I should do and if those exercises will be okay for me to do.
  14. Hello Viv - I hope your ankle pain has settled down and that you had your MRI? I hope you don’t mind me contacting you, but I’ve been getting pain at the back of my ankle when I point my toes too and wondered if it was posterior impingement. May I ask what exercises your physio gave you please?
  15. @bangorballetboy Hope someone did this for Matthew Ball when I saw him with Yasmine Nagdhi in the Nutcracker. That man 💯 deserved a slab of cold beer after that performance 🙌🙌🙌
  16. Oooh skirted leotards - that is genius - I didn’t know there was such a thing.
  17. Yes same here - I started in size 41 shoes and after a couple classes realised I couldn’t straighten my big toe in them so promptly went to a dance shop and got my feet properly sized up - turns out I’m a 44 in so danca shoes as my feet are wide with high arches/ instep. I’m usually a 40/41 in normal shoes so I was pretty shocked to be given a 44 but they’re super comfy 🤷‍♀️
  18. Oooh 6 new Leo’s I’m so jel. Which ones did you get? Major bonus points to your partner for that 🙌
  19. I know right ??😂😭 Since when is a size 10 considered large? - surely that should be against human rights 😂😂 After I told the lady in Capezio my dress size she must’ve clocked my indignation at being given a large Leo to try on and sympathetically said ‘you see, you’ve got quite a long body’ bless her 😂. Anyway at least I know my size is large in Bloch and Capezio Leo’s now and L/XL in tights so I don’t have to suffer the indignity of being publicly sized up again 😂
  20. I’m going to try and get to her Pineapple class alternate Thursday evenings instead.
