  1. In Aaron Watkin's presentation video for the 2016-17 Semperoper season, he says she is joining the company on a permanent basis as a principal.
  2. I LOVE LOVE LOVE David Dawson's Giselle for Dresden. I adore the traditional Giselle too, but I just loved his choreography, the costumes, everything. I bet his Swan Lake for Scottish Ballet will be fantastic.
  3. I envy you, terpsichore. How much does a DNB Friends membership cost? Did you watch class in their studios or was it on stage?
  4. Milan's school performance is on June 5th. otherwise Italy is a bit of a ballet wasteland
  5. It is based on the original Sylphide by Filippo Taglioni , music by Schneitzhoffer, but since none of that has survived, Pierre Lacotte created it "in the style of" after digging what he could out of the POB Archives.
  6. I LOVE Neuemeier's Illusions... One of my fave versions of Swan Lake. Worth a trip to Munich or Hamburg!
  7. Kochetkova is definitely still with SFB. She only dances with ABT during their May-June NY season (when SFB is off).
  8. There is no evidence that Millepied "wanted to turn POB into a contemporary company". In fact one of his criticisms of his dancers that they didn't do the classics as well as he would have liked and didn't seem to be enjoying themselves when dancing classical ballet.
  9. although one has to wonder if a company that has a grand total of 28 performances of 3 programs between now and the end of November can still be considered "major"...
  10. More and more? Let's see, of major companies, there is Karen Kain, Tamara Rojo, Madeleine Onne at Hong Kong Ballet, and now Aurelie Dupont, and...... and.... ?
  11. I wonder how long it took Helpmann to turn his Australian accent into THAT!
  12. you have to see more Balanchine. Tchaikovsky was his composer just as much as Stravinsky. You may find you like his tutu ballets better than his black and white ballets (they are very different). It's unfortunate there isn't more Balanchine available on DVD. Have you seen Jewels (which is)?
  13. You can order individual issues from the Dance Europe website:http://www.danceeurope.net/store

  16. Just for fun. I thought I'd share my "ballet title generator" based on your name. Are you Aurora's Winter Dreams of Spring? or Alice's Rodeo of Exactitude? Check it out and enjoy! (and do let us know if you are The Rite of Two Pigeons Impressing the Tsar ) http://toursenlair.b...-generator.html

  18. If you read French, there is a very interesting in-depth article about the Bolshoi's Shrew on Danses avec la Plume: http://www.dansesaveclaplume.com/en-scene/28635-ballet-du-bolchoi-lame-legere-de-la-megere-apprivoisee-de-jean-christophe-maillot/
  19. that's not a problem if they have a print-at-home option (like almost every other ballet company in the world!). I've always wondered why it's taken the ROH so long to adopt electronic tickets. Such a song and dance if you book tix for someone else to pick up (which I do a lot). You have to rummage around on the website to find the 3rd-party authorization form, fill it in (in a cumbersome way), send it to the person who will be picking up (who then loses it so you have to go through it all again....)
  20. Thank you so much for posting that article about video piracy, alison. I think we should all read it. we all want people to produce more films about ballet, which is VERY much a niche market, and we should be willing to pay for those films.
  21. This is on PA Ballet's facebook feed: Pennsylvania Ballet Yesterday at 10:42am · A Facebook user recently commented that the Eagles had "played like they were wearing tutus!!!" Our response: "With all due respect to the Eagles, let's take a minute to look at what our tutu wearing women have done this month: By tomorrow afternoon, the ballerinas that wear tutus at Pennsylvania Ballet will have performed The Nutcracker 27 times in 21 days. Some of those women have performed the Snow scene and the Waltz of the Flowers without an understudy or second cast. No 'second string' to come in and spell them when they needed a break. When they have been sick they have come to the theater, put on make up and costume, smiled and performed. When they have felt an injury in the middle of a show there have been no injury timeouts. They have kept smiling, finished their job, bowed, left the stage, and then dealt with what hurts. Some of these tutu wearers have been tossed into a new position with only a moments notice. That's like a cornerback being told at halftime that they're going to play wide receiver for the second half, but they need to make sure that no one can tell they've never played wide receiver before. They have done all of this with such artistry and grace that audience after audience has clapped and cheered (no Boo Birds at the Academy) and the Philadelphia Inquirer has said this production looks "better than ever". So no, the Eagles have not played like they were wearing tutus. If they had, Chip Kelly would still be a head coach and we'd all be looking forward to the playoffs." Happy New Year!
