  1. Continuing in this vein... Unfortunately Roberto Bolle's facebook page lets FB do its translating from Italian, with the following result: "Interview with Roberto Bubbles on the next stage of the ‪#‎bolletour2015‬ at the arena of Verona tomorrow at 22:00 Automatically Translated" No, really? Automatically translated? I would never have guessed. I will now never be able to think of him as anything but "Roberto Bubbles"!
  2. http://toursenlair.blogspot.ca/2015/07/master-calendar-of-major-ballet-company.html Please note that the calendar does not aim to include EVERY ballet company in North America. There are too many of them for this to be feasible. It includes all the major companies and some regional companies. American Ballet Theatre does not announce its spring New York season till the fall. Most Nutcracker performances are not listed because of the sheer quantity of them. You can be pretty sure that anywhere you are in December, there will be a Nutcracker on! Companies and venues listed: Alberta Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Auditorium Theatre Chicago, Ballet Arizona, Ballet BC, Boston Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, Houston Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Kennedy Centre, Miami City Ballet, National Arts Centre Ottawa, National Ballet of Canada, New York City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Sarasota Ballet, Silicon Valley Ballet, Sony Centre Toronto.
  3. it says somewhere on the site that Forsythe has given them permission to do one of his ballets per year.
  4. There is now a website devoted to this 3-day colloquium and gala: http://www.msha.fr/petipa/?language=GB
  5. I have just posted my master calendar for ballet performances in Europe on my website. Please let me know if you have any difficulty reading it (browser issues etc.) http://toursenlair.blogspot.ca/p/whats-on-in-ballet.html
  6. "The film covers a wide period of her life, from 17 to 90 years, as one of the key motivations in this case is the tragic love story of a ballerina and Nicholas II."
  7. more info here, dating from last October, when the identity of the actress playing Mathilde was not revealed. http://www.screendaily.com/news/kozlovsky-to-star-in-russian-epic-mathilde/5078613.article
  8. if you're thinking of university halls of residence I highly recommend that you DON'T stay at LSE's Bankside House(right behind the Tate Modern. my choir stayed their twice. the beds are fiendishly uncomfortable and it's stiflingly hot
  9. just to clarify, the theatre Terpsichore is referring to as the Stopera is the same one also known as Het Muziektheater.
  10. also please consider sharing the Gala's facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Gala/1480811645469376?ref=hl
  11. For the second year in a row, Stuttgart Ballet soloist Robert Robinson, originally from the Isle of Wight, is organizing a ballet gala as a fundraiser for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice on the island. 1st August 730 pm and 2nd of August 230 pm Medina Theatre, Fairlee Road, Newport, Isle Of Wight Phone number (01983) 823884 Participating in The Gala this year are dancers (TBA) from Hamburg Ballet Stuttgart Ballet The Royal Ballet Staatsballet BerlinNames and repertoire TBA. All dancers are donating their time. Tickets are VERY reasonably priced (or what I would call "ridiculously cheap"): Adults £18 | Seniors £13 | Children £8 Book tickets here: https://www.iwight.com/theatrebookings/ticket/diary/mte128 To raise more funds, Robert Robinson has created a crowdfunder: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/the-gala If you or anyone you know is near the Isle of Wight in August (or even if you're not!), please support this worthy initiative.
  12. also I believe sponsors may not take too kindly to being told what they "should" care about.
  13. I was just using RBC as an example of a Canadian business. If I had said "Tim Hortons" none of you would have understood what I was talking about.. RBC already sponsors the NBOC's Apprentice program, so that's where their money is going.
  14. you know what, corporate sponsors are actually very difficult to drum up for things. The companies are already going after them to sponsor other things (performances etc). Maybe this year, with numbers from last year's viewing, it will be easier, I mean less difficult, to get sponsors on board for WBD, but then maybe the Royal Bank of Canada doesn't care how many people in Moscow and Australia are watching the NBOC.
  15. Bruce. you're seriously not suggesting that those 5 companies would pay the $30,000 (the amount of SFB's crowdfunder to pay for last year's event) this thing apparently costs them so that some OTHER company could be livestreamed, in return for which a grateful audience would provide "brownie points" for the sponsoring (but invisible) company? That's touching.
  16. The documentary (not the performance of Manon) is here: https://youtu.be/8tFTT_XRs8I
  17. I believe there is also a limit of 2 tix per show. So if Jan wanted to go with three of her ballet-loving friends, they would have to order as two separate groups.
  18. yes, and there's no guarantee you will get your ticket even if you DO order it 14 months in advance.
  19. The V&A is having a special shoe exhibit starting June 13, including Moira Shearer's red pointe shoes (or "ballet pumps" (aaaarrggh) as the caption calls them!) http://moreintelligentlife.com/node/6838
  20. Usually it is the presenting venue that has the final say on what the rep is. So for instance, when the National Ballet of Canada took Alice to NY, the Joyce Theatre which presented them said "Alice or nothing; we don't want you unless you bring Alice".
