  1. I loathe all the retitled Noel Streatfeild books. It shows a stunning lack of imagination. “Mrs Wintle’s Little Wonders“ told you exactly what you were getting. “- shoes” is lazy and uninformative.
  2. The first time we took our dds to the Royal Ballet, I told them that they had to be on their best behaviour because if they weren’t, it would spoil the performance for others. I added they if this happened, we would not be going to the ROH or London theatre or concerts again. They were absolutely fine, in fact the youngest, who was five at the time, sat enraptured and my eldest daughter who has ADHD, was equally well behaved. I think it helped that they had both done amateur theatre from a very young age and were used to having to be quiet backstage.
  3. There’s a new novel called “Clara and Olivia” by Lucy Ashe, a Royal Ballet school graduate. It has good reviews and I have bought it.
  4. I felt sure that this would happen as Andy thrashes himself so hard in every match. It must take so much out of him and that excessively long match must have been exhausting.
  5. Thanks, Lin. I checked my stamps and actually I only have second class bar coded stamps so I don’t have to worry.
  6. Merry Christmas to everyone here! My eldest daughter and her girlfriend bought me Opera Arte’s The Best of Vadream and my younger daughter bought me a huge Dorling Kindersley book about the history of ballet. The executive editor is Viviana Durante. Plus we are watching Swan Lake by the Viennese Ballet from 2014 and it’s dreamy.
  7. I’m so happy for you, Viv! Yes, quit while you’re ahead. x
  8. That makes sense with the general lack of money everywhere and particularly in the Arts.
  9. I’m right there with you, Sim and Anna. I have never forgotten Alina Cojacaru’s Tatiana, her devastation and determination.
  10. We were lucky enough to see Kobborg and Cojocaru the first time we saw Mayerling. I agree with Jake.
  11. @alisonI sent my older daughter to ballet to use up her energy unaware that she had ADHD at the time. She attended classes until she was seventeen.
  12. I first realised what a great character actor Gary Avis is when I saw him as the jailer in Manon. He’s a dear Facebook friend but oh boy, was I appalled at him in this role! He was so good that I positively disliked him and then felt bad about it.
  13. I remember my youngest daughter’s ballet teacher exclaiming in absolute horror when I said that “we had tickets to Mayerling”. It was only my husband and myself who were going. I knew it would horrify our then very sensitive twelve year old. She loves it now.
  14. I know Sheila has recently moved. The website is still up and the email address but no phone number. You may have to resort to emailing her.
  15. @AngelaThank you so much! The letter to her mother has already been translated in full and small amounts of the other two but I have never seen the full version of the others. I studied French and Latin at school because I thought Latin would be more useful for studying history at university but I went from wanting to study the Middle Ages to Early Modern and German would have been far more useful!
  16. Thank you so much, Sebastian. If I could only get Google translate to cooperate, I would be fascinated to read them.!
  17. Oh, Viv and Berry, what a nightmare for you both! I’m so sorry.
  18. Michelle, I’m so very sorry. I hope Adrian can make a complete recovery or else improve greatly. I will keep you both in my prayers.
