  1. Hi Can anyone give me any experiences, info, advice about Associate classes in London, specifically at ENBS, Rambert, Central - the last 2 offer full days for cheaper. Any recommendations, or elsewhere that I've missed for Saturday (not RBS). Is Rambert good for classical ballet? Context is 15 year old girl at ENBS senior associates currently for the 1st year, I don't know what happens next year, if it is just a repeat of this year, (9:30-1, ballet class and Rambert syllabus contemporary class). Currently she has to reaudition like everyone else to continue into Yr 2 and there's been no feedback on her progress or anything. It has been a good grounding in technique but I wonder if she could be learning more elsewhere, esp where there are full days on offer for less money...? Thankyou if anyone has any experiences to share, it would be helpful.
  2. Just wondering if anyone here has applied for the extended young dancers programme at Elmhurst (for year 9 & upwards), and if so, have you had any information through about the audition yet? According to the website the auditions are this Saturday (27th April), but we’ve had nothing through about timings etc, or even confirming that the application has been received…now a bit worried it didn’t submit properly! Thanks.
  3. Hi all My daughter is 8 and has been accepted to the The London Ballet Company Associate programme. The LTBC studio is an hour ish drive from us (it was previously in Wimbledon now in Hackey)... I didn't realise they were moving when we applied (Wimbledon would have been easier / better). We've never done anything like this before and I'd welcome views from others on the how beneficial Associate programmes are? Do kids form bonds / build friendships (2 hours a session, once a month), any experience of TLBC would be amazing. Thank you in advance! S
  4. Hi hive mind - my tiny dancer has been invited to a final audition for the Northern Ballet (Leeds) CAT programme. We really liked the idea of the associates programme and were absolutely stunned to have received a callback for CAT (in a positive way) I’ve read up on the website but I wondered if anyone has any experience of this final round they can share and experience of the programme overall? I’m not sure what to expect as I’ve heard mixed information - including that if you dance with CAT you have to leave your current dance school? Can anyone out there settle the nerves of some very inexperienced first timers? Has anyone yet heard back on associates ?
  5. Dd's already doing a monthly associate and really wants to audition for a ballet associate that is twice a month. She already dances every night of the week and is going into Y10 in September where I'm guessing homework may increase. Are associates really needed? If anyone's child did two associates or more at once, how did they cope not spending much time seeing friends due to lack of free time? If she were successful and offered a place on the ballet one too, then it means an even bigger financial commitment. Is it all necessary or can good quality training at your dance school be enough? Would she need both associates (ballet, jazz, lyrical) and the ballet one or is one enough? Thanks
  6. Dd is thinking of trying for Tring Park Associates on Saturdays. She's tried a few times for the CBA and hasn't got in so thought she'd try for the associates in the meantime. Plus she's quite keen to try tap, jazz etc She got a place for the associates about 3 years ago but we couldn't let her do it as the timing was difficult. Now I know the non-syllabus ballet class for her level is later on, it's more do-able. I'm sure it's very well taught and she'll gain a lot from the classes. Does anyone have any personal experience of the associates? Also, regarding the travel. As anyone with dancing dc (plus siblings) will know, I do a LOT of ferrying around during the week and more when dd is doing something like EYB. I want to try and keep travel to a minimum at the weekend to have some time with my other dds. The train line to Tring goes quite near our home so I had this idea perhaps she could go to and from herself. I know the station at Tring is too far to walk but I thought she could maybe get a taxi or someone could drop her at the station after her classes. But I don't know if that's expecting too much of her. If she did it, she'd start in January, she will be 13 in May so is used to travelling to and from school herself. Do you think this is feasible?
  7. London Vocational Ballet School (previously Young Dancers Academy): Looking for reviews, personal experiences and general information beyond what’s on their website about their training, staff, approach, and how the quality compares to more well-known ‘names’ like Elmhurst/Royal. Interested in broad info (any/all) and specific RE their associate scheme. Many thanks ☺️
  8. Can anyone recommend junior associates in Yorkshire other than RBS? Looking at our options for next year. My daughter is 9 almost 10 in year 5 at school. She auditioned for RBS this year and will be again next year, but I would like to look at other options too.
  9. Hi all I’ve only recently found this forum and been reading old threads about RBS associates insight days and have a few questions… I have booked my 10 year old dd into the RBS insight day in London in September but am now worried it’s a bad idea! She will be one of the youngest in the group (just starting Year 6 when it goes up to Year 8) and hasn’t done much ballet this summer. I had thought the class would just give her (and me!) an insight into being an Associate, but I don’t want it to affect her confidence if everyone there is older/more experienced than her. Has anyone’s child done the insight day for the experience and not applied for the associates? Will it be an enjoyable experience in itself? Any thoughts appreciated! Thank you.
  10. Hi- Does anyone have experience with the ENB Associates program? DD has received an offer for Mid Associate and just curious what the student experience is like as they said more info would be sent out later regarding the program but would love a heads up! (Any info on class size and levels, class offerings, any performance opportunities?) Much appreciated!
  11. My daughter (14) is going to be an associate with BTUKS next year. I also put her down for ballet boost but before I message them I thought I’d pick the brains of those parents much more experienced to ask if it would be okay to be an associate at two different schools? The thing is, it would be her last year of most associate schemes as she’ll be year 11 next year. Only one day a term would clash, so if she attended every session at BTUK, she’d miss three sessions out of nineteen from Ballet Boost. She is just very keen to “catch up” after an illness, to give herself the best chance at full time training in a couple of years. But before I ask ballet boost, I’d really appreciate any advice.
  12. Hi, I’m 15 years old (born in September so I’m almost 16). I am in year 10 now and will be auditioning for colleges in year 11. Recently I have been attending lots of associate program auditions; I was accepted into ballet boost seniors but rejected to enb and csb. I still have my rambert audition tomorrow. I am not sure what to do as csb is my dream college (realistically. I’d LOVE rbs but I’m not sure if I’m talented enough so my dad told me to reduce my expectations, and I chose csb. I’ve done lots of research and it seems like the perfect school for me). I’m a bit heartbroken as I’m not sure what to do now, I have about 6 months before the audition for the college, and if I can’t make it into the associates, I’m not sure how I’ll make it to the college. They don’t respond with feedback either, so there’s no way to know what I need to work on in this limited time too. Does anyone have any advice? What do colleges look for? And especially csb and enb. I’ve tagged my top schools, however I will be audition for a few others, but they include musical theatre which isn’t me so I’d prefer the tagged schools. I’ve just taken my intermediate RAD exam too (literally yesterday) and have already been training in advanced 1 for a while. Thank you so much for any advice you can give, I’m a little stressed and overwhelmed right now 😅
  13. Hi, My DD has been with Scottish Ballet Mid Associates this past year and has been accepted on the associate programme for Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for 23/34. Ultimately her aim is to study the modern ballet degree at RCS…. I’m just wondering I anyone can shed any light as to why fees are SO much more at RCS (when worked out per hour) when the teachers seem to be the same as those at Scottish Ballet???
  14. Hi all, I was recently having a conversation and trying to explain what ballet associate programmes where to someone who was unfamiliar. It got me thinking 🤔 How would you describe an associate programme? What makes a good associate programme? Are there big differences between programmes?
  15. I couldn’t find a thread on this, so apologies if I’ve missed one, but just wondering whether anyone has any experience/views on Central School of Ballet associates? Looking for my daughter, who’s going into year 9 in Sept. Many thanks.
  16. My 9 year old has been put forward by her dance teacher, for the junior associate programme at RBS and even though I know chances of getting in are slim, I am very proud, as she’s is only 1 of 2 in the whole dance school, that the teacher has put forward. She is very excited and it’s made me think that I’d like to apply for other things as well. Can I get some recommendations for other good associate programs in the south/ West Yorkshire area please? We have looked at Northern ballet, but cannot do Friday nights, as this is one of her ballet class evenings.
  17. If you’re looking to improve your dancers technique and strength then PBT is an excellent place to start. Introducing PBT Associates UK - the fist and only PBT associates programme. Starting on Sunday. Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening programme to enhance students technique and is hugely valuable especially for classical ballet students. With the full support of Marie Walton-Mahon, the creator and founder of PBT, my Associate programme has been created to provide classes for talented students to expand upon their current training. Associate classes are held at the MAC in Birmingham, there will also be an optional weekly zoom lesson on a Wednesday. As a level 3 certified teacher I also hold both private and group classes on zoom and at the Spirit Studio in Gloucester. PBT Associates is offering an initial set of open classes, 11th September, 9th October, 13th November before Auditions take place on the 11th December for the programme beginning in January 2023. You don’t have to be able to attend all of the open classes to apply. There are still places available, we are initially running at two levels: Junior Associates - School Yrs 5-8 11.30am-12.45pm - PBT 12.45-2.00pm - Ballet Senior Associates - School Yrs 9+ 12.45-2.00pm - PBT 2.00-3.15pm - Ballet Ballet classes are taught by RBS SA teacher Sue Lucas, and former BRB dancer Alicia Nelson. 18. Hello, I’ve just seen that MTB are offering an associates programme. Can I get peoples honest thoughts on this please? It would be a 1.5/2 hour drive for us. The plan was to apply for RBS associates when auditions opened in feb. The MTB associates are taking applications now and the programme would run up until July 23 I think. Thanks so much in advance.
  19. Is anyone else waiting on results from Moorland for 2022 intake ? Xx
  20. Just wondered if there was a junior associate 2022 forum?
  21. Hello, First time posting! My daughter is auditioning for part time programmes- she has been accepted at Edinburgh Festival Ballet and SMB. The Scottish Ballet auditions have been moved to July. I have no experience of any of these programmes (she did an associate programme with another company we shall not talk about and didn’t particularly enjoy it). She (we) will need to make a decision about EFB and SMB before she’s even had the SB audition now- does anyone have any experience/knowledge of these programmes??? I’ve heard SB classes can be large? EFB have a maximum of 20 per class... but as they are new they obviously don’t have the presence/reputation of the other two... I’ve also heard S-M B Company is very different to the dance company Sara-Maria Barton was involved with.... any thoughts/experience would be gratefully received!
  22. Hello, my 15 year old dd is looking for extra classes to supplement her regular ones. She would like ballet and contemporary in particular. Can anyone recommend something that might suit her? I don't think she is strong enough for very competitive programmes. We have looked at Tring Park Associates that might work but ideally I would like Central London so she can get there herself!
  23. Anyone have any info on Hammond associates please - the dance focused one. What day is it and how much ballet is involved vs other dance styles? For my dd aged 12. I've tried emailing them but no answer - thanks x
  24. Hello My 8yo's ballet teacher has told us that our daughter should try the RBS's auditions as Junior Associate. I don't know anything about the dancing world. I've combed the RBS website and see the insight day was last year but the application for the audition is this Feb to start in Sep 22. My question is, is it worth it to apply for my daughter this year? We don't know what the auditions entail. Does everyone generally attend the insight day first the year before? It seems like a long time between the insight day and the actual auditions for an 8yo to remember what is to be expected of her.. Thankful for your responses!
  25. Just wondering if anyone has any idea of times for CBA. I’ve seen the dates on their website but wondering what times the classes are. Thanks
