alison
Hope you found it worthwhile, Simon! (You can discuss it here http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/10781-bolshoi-cinema-broadcasts-2015-2016/) if you like. I've now moved this into the main 15-16 cinema thread. I'd forgotten it was on, quite frankly: I was asking at my local about Bolshoi broadcasts the other day, so I guess they're not doing the repeats - again. Anyway, I'd seen this one once already. stucha
Ballets Russes is scheduled but not live - a pre recorded version.14 Jan 2016. It includes Petrouchka ,Spectre de la rose, Afternoon of a faune And Iolanta/Nutcracker - the new production of Nutcracker with some of the choreography by Liam Scarlett 17 March 2016 in cinemas. Often these performances are recorded and played on Culturebox or Arte and are available for some months to replay at leisure. For example the most recent one is the Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker programme which is on Arte and doesn't appear to be geoblocked. Odd filming at times but worth a look. The final piece is Transfigured Night - http://concert.arte.tv/fr/soiree-anne-teresa-de-keersmaeker-lopera-de-paris Edited November 9, 2015 by stucha

alison
I'm not sure whether I should post this here, or whether it should have its own page, but when I was looking at the listings for Monte-Carlo's Nutcracker screening I came across this site: https://www.ourscreen.com/about-ourscreen/ It seems to be a sort of nationwide(ish) DIY cinema programming scheme - get enough people together and you can arrange a screening. I was aware that the NFT/BFI offers something similar in London, but this is the first time I can remember seeing signs of anything similar anywhere else. Wouldn't it be great if we could arrange some dance-based screenings? So if, say, Bolshoi Babylon isn't showing near you, get a group of people together and you might be able to arrange a screening.

Jan McNulty
PRESS RELEASE MATTHEW BOURNE’S AWARD-WINNING DANCE PRODUCTION THE CAR MAN RELEASED IN CINEMAS NATIONWIDE FROM 1 MARCH 2016 Running time 98 minutes BBFC Cert 12A Recently knighted and internationally acclaimed choreographer Matthew Bourne’s stunning dance thriller, The Car Man, will be released in cinemas across the UK from 1 March 2016. Performed by Matthew Bourne’s Dance Company, New Adventures, the award-winning The Car Man is loosely based on Bizet’s popular opera (CARMEN) and has one of the most thrilling and instantly recognisable scores in classical music, brilliantly arranged by Terry Davies. The familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a greasy garage-diner in 1960’s America where the dreams and passions of a small-town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome stranger. Fuelled by heat and desire, the inhabitants are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge. Lez Brotherston’s epic design, Chris Davey’s evocative lighting and Matthew Bourne’s vivid storytelling take in a wealth of cinematic references, creating a powerful and uncompromising vision of small-town America. Filmed live at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London in August 2015 and starring an outstanding cast of dancers praised for the power and magnetism of their performances, the title role of ‘Luca, The Car Man’, is played by CHRIS TRENFIELD; ‘Lana’ by ZIZI STRALLEN; ‘Rita’, Lana’s sister is performed by KATE LYONS; ‘Angelo’ is played by DOMINIC NORTH; and ‘Dino’ by ALAN VINCENT. In addition Zizi Strallen has been nominated for the Outstanding Female Performance category in the National Dance Awards for her performance as Lana in The Car Man. Matthew Bourne comments: “Of all our New Adventure’s dance productions The Car Man has become the show that is most often mentioned as a ‘favourite’ by audience members, and it’s loved by the dancers too who relish the chance to perform such gutsy and challenging roles. I’m delighted that dance fans across the UK will have the opportunity to watch this incredibly powerful 2015 revival on the big screen at their local cinema.” The Car Man is the third Matthew Bourne production to be distributed to cinemas worldwide by London-based Event Cinema specialist More2Screen, following on from Swan Lake 3D in 2012 and Sleeping Beauty in 2014. **** Released in Cineworld, Picturehouse and independent cinemas across the UK from 1 March 2016. Dates and times vary. stucha
This POB Nutcracker is going to be controversial I think. Quintus
I just had an email from Cineworld advising the local showing of Romeo and Juliet on 14/2 has been cancelled. The wording was generic suggesting it affects multiple or all Cineworld cinemas. They are refunding the tickets and giving free vouchers by way of compensation. Still annoying though, I'd rescheduled various things around this performance

The wording was generic suggesting it affects multiple or all Cineworld cinemas. Sorry for all who booked tickets - but somehow I am not very surprised at the turn of events. Very underpublicised and in a curious selection of venues across the UK, I was wondering what was behind this series of screenings, at least so far as we in Britain are concerned. Geoff
More2Screen. Thanks Alison. Apologies, I was actually being a bit colloquial (I meant what, rather than who or which company which is anyway on the website, was behind the screenings) - the whole thing looked a bit of a poor deal shuffled together clumsily by a small or disinterested distributor, and so one wondered what was going on, that's all. Sorry for being unclear, I was just puzzled by the offer.
alison
Sorry, obviously misread "what" as "who" I've said it before (so many times), but cinemas, companies and distributors really need to get their act together on this. There's clearly a market for the broadcasts, but even now, the problems I have trying to get information about them ... Twice in a not-too-local Odeon, 3 times in 3 different Picturehouses, I've tried to get hold of printed information about what is being shown and when, and getting blood out of the proverbial stone would be easier! And they *still* haven't really got the mailing lists together properly. I did get something from Picturehouses the other week, but again it's not laid out in a suitably list-like format to make it easy to read.

jmhopton
I see casting has been announced on the Bolshoi website for the cinema Don Q. It is Krysanova and Chudin, with Medvedev as Gamanche, Skorsov as Espada and Karasyova as Mercedes and Smirnova as Queen of the dryads. Good to see different casting; sounds as if it's going to be really good. Would have liked to see Merkuiev as Espada or better still, Basil. he danced it on their last visit to London.
