    I like the John Ross photo of Ivan Vasiliev and Michael Coleman in act 1, there was a lovely interplay between the two, and I have never seen so much intensity from Siegfried as in the first act solo, nice to see that variation as Siegfried needs all the dancing he can get. In fact Ivan Vasiliev made the evening for me, his partnering wasn't perfect and some technique looked a bit rough, but what charisma, by comparison I found Alina Cojocaru rather pallid, going by the reviews I'm obviously in the minority, and it might have been the low lighting (as seen from high above) that made it difficult to follow act 2 and even act 3 in places. The production is fast and energetic like the Bolshoi's, especially the choreography for Rothbart, and undeniably exciting, but lacked poetry and magic for me, what has happened to Odette's entrance, very odd. Great soloists as always with ENB, Cesar Corrales is new to me.

    I've read somewhere that Marcelino Sambe will dance in the pas de trois but it didn't mention any girls' names.

    I would have liked to have seen Nehemiah Kish as Espada, thanks for mentioning him, I did see Johannes Stepanek as Gamache and he was my favourite so far, wonderful comic timing, it was with the Takada/Campbell cast.

    I have already booked the opening night and will probably book another, I like this production (apart from the sisters) anyone who likes the tree in The Winter's Tale will love this one, it's more spectacular

    Last night was a transformation for me, I had been feeling a bit grumpy about this revival of Don Q, all the injuries, replacements etc, but as soon as it started this performance was different, the music went with a swing instead of feeling like a dirge (I could see down to the conductor who was very animated), and everything fell into place, Anna Tsygankova radiates so much warmth in the role of Kitri, and I've never seen Matthew Golding so relaxed and happy, wouldn't mind betting we will see them dance together again at the ROH, I think she has become a favourite.

    When I called at the Box Office at 5pm yesterday they said it was still tbc, which is still is, so hung on to the ticket, and am very pleased I did, as I have Blu-Rays of this couple in Don Quixote, Nutcracker and Cinderella, there is an extra rapport between them which will make tomorrow night exciting and is a lovely compensation for Matthew Golding. The bad news is that I don't feel very well and there is a 24 hour bus strike tomorrow!

    I have had cast change E-mails in the past when it involves opera, full of profuse apologies, in fact I believe I had at least 4 personal E-mails for Robert le Diable, cast change, cast changed back, another cast change, and finally a change in running time, I was amused and remember thinking it would never have happened for ballet, opera does seem to have slightly higher status, I'm also an ordinary Friend it that means anything. Really sorry to hear today's news, I have a ticket for the 5th and hope a decision is made soon.

    I'm glad to hear the third act was successful last night, I didn't stay after the second act as it was already 9.45pm but really wanted to see Claire Calvert and Francesca Hayward, who were both well worth waiting for! Such a shame for Natalia Osipova who seems to be ill fated at the ROH, but what a well deserved triumph for Akane Takada, who I saw 2 weeks ago with Alexander Campbell and hope to see in 2 week's time with Vadim Muntagirov! I presume Matthew Golding's partnering also played a part in the success

    So interesting, I'll celebrate this tonight by watching a DVD, the Collier/Dowell one as I believe this has the moment where the SPF stands on a piece of gauze held by the Prince (as seen in the photo above) which moves along the stage.

    I agree with Aileen, especially that the production delivers less each time you see it, in addition it doesn't have a particularly warm Christmas feel, I still enjoyed the first night as I saw Alina Cojocaru again (really miss her at the ROH, and Johan Kobborg). Alejandro Villenes is a lovely slim elegant dancer with a delicate face, not sure if he's the right partner for Alina though, but who is? The ENB website shows Shiori Kase as being replaced at this Saturday matinee by Fernanda Oliviera, I'm hoping to be able to make this and was just checking, at other performances Erina Takahashi replaces her, and at one matinee Fernando Bufala

    I saw Harrods and Fortnum and Mason's windows yesterday which were charming and classy, I missed Eros as the no.9 bus now goes via Pall Mall, I'm going again next week and will look out as I walk down Regent Street!

    Excited to know that a DVD/Blu-Ray will be released, I don't like downloading or watching ballet on my lap-top so wasn't particularly thrilled by yesterday's news.

    I had no problems yesterday but that's usual for the amphitheatre, the system has crashed today though, Friend's Opera booking, can't get into the site at the moment.

    Going back to the 60's and 70's there was nearly always a flower throw at the end of a full length ballet, of course the market was still there and daffodils, which it often was, probably would be cheaper by the evening, but even so many fans took the time and trouble to stand in the slips both sides and create a shower of flowers. Curtain calls could go on for ages too, never know how my mum and I could always get the 11pm train from Victoria, well I do really, short 20m intervals

    The Times also said that if the leading lady doesn't get any flowers, then none of the other girls do either, but now there is a fund to buy emergency bouquets if that happens, perhaps that explains why sometimes the other girls have bigger and better ones

    This is a repeat of last year, I think it was Roberta Marquez who was injured for one performance and replaced by Akane Takada, she had those horrible falls at the beginning which lead to the floor having to be replaced in the second interval, which meant I missed seeing Takada and Campbell in the third act, I now have a chance to see them tomorrow, but it looks as if I never will see Roberta Marquez as Kitri .

    Good to see this topic, a DVD has just been released of his Swan Lake and I wondered whether to buy it, I generally find a little Neuemier goes a long way, is the Prince meant to be King Ludwig of Bavaria and does it follow his story ending with him dead in the lake, or maybe that's the start? Lady of the Camellias is one of those ballets I would like to see on stage, the pas de deux are wonderful but I easily get bored with other parts especially the silent beginning, and I find the Chopin music excerpts too similar for a full length ballet, I imagine it needs strong performances to work.

    I had an E-mail from Shakespeare's Globe yesterday and public booking for the summer season at the outside Globe starts on Monday 9th February, that includes standing tickets which are still £5, information is on the website.

    Thinking it was Nutcracker time, I watched this DVD earlier in the week, it is very lovely and also has Alina Cojocaru and Ivan Putrov as the young couple, and Zenaida Yanovsky as the Rose Fairy.

    Nice to know that a Company as large as he Bolshoi gets caught out by not having enough dancers rehearsed in roles to take over too, but very short-sighted!

    ENB have that new Neumeier ballet coming up in March too so I suppose Tamara Rojo wants to stay on good terms, but I do feel sympathy for everyone with a ticket, I have booked to see Nutcracker and Swan Lake especially to see Alina Cojocaru at the Coliseum.

    I have a feeling that they have to wait until after the TV broadcast, often DVDs are issued the week after a programme, I remember last year I ordered the Bourne Sleeping Beauty for release before Christmas but it was then held back until January.

    News of 2 DVD/BluRays that I have been eagerly looking out for: Bolshoi Marco Spada released on 24th November, on Amazon Royal Ballet's The Winter's Tale released on 1st January at the ROH and 5th January on Amazon, so after Christmas, which I'm hoping means it will be shown on TV first.
