  1. I think Vadim Muntagirov will still dance if he's okay, I have my own idea of who might partner him, but I suppose I shouldn't speculate here
  2. I've just seen this Email, it's really a test of the system isn't it, they want as many Friends as possible to do online booking, and nobody can phone about errors until 10am. I like the 8am start actually, being an early person, and luckily there's not much to book, one thing I noticed is that opening night of Woolf Works on 11 May is students only for the amphitheatre and no casting is up anyway, so can't book for too many.
  3. This has reminded me of something too late, I went to the ROH in February 2006 and kept the ticket as I had seen a floral tribute in the foyer with a card saying on 21 February 1962 Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev first danced Giselle at the ROH, I was there on Saturday and forget to look! How sad that this is the date she died.
  4. I received mine today from Amazon, the ROH shop has it too, it contains: La Sylphide Iana Salenko and Marian Walter La Bayadere Shadows pdd Evgenia Obtaztsova and Evgeni Ivanchenko Manon bedroom pdd Tamara Rojo and Federico Bonelli Two Pieces for HET Maia Makhateli and Remi Wortmeyer Raymonda act 3 Aurelie Dupont and Mathias Heymann Sleeping Beauty act 3 Evgenia Obtaztsova and Dimitri Gudanov Manfred Mathias Heymann M and A Tamara Rojo and Rupert Pennefather Swan Lake act 2 Daria Vasnetsova and Evgeni Ivanchenko Le Corsaire Aleksandra Timofeeva and Vadim Muntagirov Looking forward to watching it tonight, I remember Rudolf Nureyev dancing Manfred at the Coliseum, marvellous music.
  5. This sounds a great triple bill, I wish BRB were bringing it to the Coliseum in March, I can't find any enthusiasm for Carmina Burana.
  6. Yes, and although last week's performance with Nehemiah Kish was never less than lovely, more RB style, last night's was smoother, technically even better, although Odile suits her style more I prefer her Odette, beautiful second act solo which is one of my most favourite dances ever, and sensitive partnering by Matthew Golding in the pdd, as expected the Black Swan brought out the best in them, makes me realise how great they would have been in the last act of Don Q. Very exciting evening, the whole company do seem to dance better when Natalia Osipova is on, as they do with Carlos Acosta, and I think she will inspire lots of girls, must make sure to book the cinema performance on the 17th, although I will be at the ROH for Evgenia Obraztsova on the 16th, who would have believed 2 Bolshoi ballerina's in 2 nights
  7. Just read in Metro, from Monday 23rd February, Covent Garden tube will be exit only again, and at weekends westbound trains will not stop at the station, this continues until November.
  8. Another very emotional evening last night, Matthew Ball is a true star in the making, I used to be a bit bored with the second act duel scene but his dancing is so heartbreaking, it almost becomes the saddest part of the whole ballet, he also has a perfect " ballet "face, what a partnership he and Yasmine Naghdi could become! The whole cast were inspired again, Matthew Golding and Natalia Osipova reminded me of Cojocaru and Kobborg especially in the mirror pdd, the same abandon and risk-taking, even if it did produce a mishap, I prefer that to playing safe!
  9. These days I only go to Swan Lake for the dancers, having said that I much prefer this RB version to ENB's, I actually like the soft long dresses for the swans which look beautiful from above, I like the Imperial Russian, Faberge egg themes, plus the fact that the old Ivanov choreography for act 4 is intact, only the Mariinsky still dances this I believe, what I don't like is some of the silly "business" and some costumes (I like the description of 1980's glam rock, and on Friday saw the funny side of this, especially Rothbart's costume) which I will never take seriously again. I shall be sorry to see it go! As I got a last minute ticket I was in a good mood and really glad I saw Natalia Osipova and Nehemiah Kish, I was intrigued to see such an unlikely pairing, and thought it was very fine indeed, no technical problems at all, his height and her flexibilty made the lifts in particular very exciting, plus the sheer beauty of Osipova's dancing in her solo's, other pleasures were Olivia Cowley and Fumi Kaneko as two swans, Emma Maguire and Paul Kay in the Neapolitan, and Claire Calvert and Ricardo Cervera in the Czardas, also Mayara Magri in the pas de trois which was her first. One thought crossed my mind, so far this year I have seen 2 performances of Swan Lake, Ivan Vasiliev in the first and Natalia Osipova in the second, that's pretty impressive but what a tragedy they didn't dance together!
  10. I didn't see it myself but today's Times has a wonderful 5 star review for Marianela Nunez and Carlos Acosta, haven't read the others yet.
  11. Yes, they can be quite aggressive and ungainly birds on dry land, it's only when they are in the water and gliding that they look so beautiful.
  12. I've just managed to get one, there are a very few seats in all parts of the theatre at the moment.
  13. I've just read that in the programme, also a scene at the beginning with Onegin at his uncle's death bed has been omitted, perhaps that's why the ballet is fairly short in length.
  14. My local cinema always shows a 7.15 start, that's when the transmissiom begins with an introduction, then the ballet should start at 7.30, so you would probably miss a little bit.
  15. All these comments have made me very glad I have a ticket for the Osipova/Golding cast on the 16th, I saw their first performance and they have obviously added to their interpretations, just hope that Natalia Osipova doesn't injure herself in Swan Lake on Friday, actually I'd like to see her and Nehemiah Kish, although I will see him as Onegin on Wednesday. Last night I watched the Ralph Fiennes DVD which was partly filmed in a very cold looking St. Petersburg, fascinating to compare because all the emotion has to be contained in the face and voice, Ralph Fiennes always does anguished so well too!
  16. I would keep the row C seats, the nearer to the centre the better, especially as it's only one row back.
  17. Lovely picture of Charles and Camilla backstage with Marianela Nunez and Thiago Soares last night
  18. I was thinking this yesterday looking at the plans for the ROH, it would be nice if there was space for a small museum amongst the cafes and retail outlets that are scheduled to be open all day, perhaps downstairs , it would be somewhere interesting to go if you arrive early. Unfortunately there don't seem to be any plans as yet.
  19. An exceptional night, at long last the chance to see Natalia Osipova and Matthew Golding in a full-length ballet, thought they were thrilling in the mirror pdd, don't know how Matthew Golding managed to dance so well himself and still be able to catch Natalia Osipova flying through the air, I've never seen it danced with such abandon and at a debut too! And they can only get better! Yasmine Naghdi and Matthew Ball were utterly beautiful too, what sensitive acting from Matthew Ball in particular, again amazing at a debut! I couldn't really find any fault with the music either, I was trying to listen more, perhaps more Russian in that tempi varied from very fast (the runs of split jetes) to very slow and sparser in the duel scene, there were no boo's for the conductor last night. I'm surprised that there are never any flower throws for Natalia Osipova too, although both girls had lots of bocquets. I was inspired to stay until the very end which nowadays I only do for very special performances.
  20. Thought Thiago Soares was superb last night, he was the perfect Onegin from start to finish, Marianela Nunez made an amazing transformation from a pale ethereal girl in the first two acts to radiant wife in the final act. The dancing of Akane Takada and Vadim Muntagirov was pure beauty, in fact this ballet has never looked better overall, corps de ballet looked great, even the lighting managed to be evocative to suit the delicate designs, whilst still sufficient to see properly from the amphi.
  21. The only disappointment last night was not seeing Valentino Zucchetti as Espada, otherwise a great performance to end my run of Don Quixote, knew Iana Salenko and Steven McRae would be outstanding and of course they were, what a lovely surprise to see the Dryad Queen solo of Fumi Kaneko danced the way it should be at last!
  22. I saw Alice last night and enjoyed it very much as it was my only one this time, got the casting I booked for which helps, Francesca Hayward and Vadim Muntagirov are perfect for the roles, they can just be themselves, and dance very fluently together, I think he would be too tall for her in the classics though. As a production there is just not enough dancing for me, the first long act is really just a procession of charming/irritating characters, act two is shorter and much better, two solo's for Alice, the Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar (the one and only Eric Underwood last night) and then the Waltz and pdd which seems to be longer and makes a very pretty setpiece, the third act contains a far amount of dancing, but the best scene for me remains the final one, which manages to convey the charm and sentiment of the book, if there had been more like that I would have loved it.
  23. There is something depressing about going underground, although when you get to the auditorium you forget it, I was so surprised and pleased to read the theatre was full at both Saturday's shows as it certainly wasn't on Friday night. How strange to do the new Sylphide in the afternoon, glad I saw the original on Friday, this was the highlight for me, Sorella Englund still magnificent as Madge, Gudrun Bojesen and Ulrik Birkkjaer also gave wonderful performances even in this abridged version, he was in the last 3 ballets so he had a busy evening. My next favourite piece was the Jockey Dance, Sebastian Haynes is a real star in the making. Sorry to have missed Alban Lendorf though not entirely surprised, really enjoyed this very rare treat though!
