  1. I recorded this too and liked it so much I'm going to watch it again tonight so I'll listen at the end for the music if no-one else knows, thought it was really well done and intelligent, loved seeing the entrechats in slow motion, shame though to know Altynai Assylmuratova's job has now been taken away from her!
  2. I had been thinking of Darcey Bussell today as her programme is on BBC2 tonight, and I believe I booked to see her Aurora on at least 3 occasions and she was injured every time, never did see it, but I don't remember her as always being injured to the same degree as today's dancers.
  3. There's an interesting article in today's Times, mostly interviews with Marcelo Gomes and Roberto Bolle, makes me want to see Bolle in Le Jeunne Homme as he was coached by Roland Petit, hope it encourages people to buy tickets as they are not selling well apart from the stalls, probably due for some offers soon.
  4. Well, I had been looking forward to seeing this double debut and was not disappointed, thought is was an unqualified success for them both, both dancers not only coped with the technical side but looked the parts to perfection! Another joy was seeing Francesca Hayward 3 times, as Songbird fairy, in the Waltz, and then as Princess Florine with Marcelino Sambe as Bluebird, what a talented, delightful couple, couldn't ask for more, don't suppose my next one on 25th March will be bad either
  5. I agree with the above comments, I don't know why but a "dislike" button feels stronger than "like" and would discourage people from posting.
  6. Very pleased to read the good reviews for Matthew Golding and his partnership with Lauren Cuthbertson!
  7. Last night's ladies free programme was so exciting and emotional, as Robin Cousins said, the best for many years, and given over 2 hours on BBC2, the coverage has been superb, look forward to the Gala tomorrow on channel 301 at 5.35pm or highlights on BBC2 on Sunday 2.30pm. So many talented newcomers, Polina Edmunds from the US had beautiful arm movements, Russia got the first gold ladies medal ever, and not the girl they expected but another teenager, glad she won as although the Korean favourite was flawless I didn't think there was enough technical content to her programme, for once I agreed with the judges!
  8. Also, at weekends westbound Piccadilly Line trains will not stop at Covent Garden.
  9. I always go for slightly left side if I can't get centre, any theatre, but especially the amphi at CG because it's nearer to the exit, not for the intervals but at the end. Also in classical ballet, most diagonals go from R to L (from the audience) and it's better to see the dancer coming towards you.
  10. The ice dance is always popular and last night was the best skating so far for me, wished I had recorded it now, glad the Americans won, but it was so close, I liked the Russian couple who came 5th too (if that was the girl with long blonde hair) they put so much emotion into it, no idea what it was supposed to be about though, also liked the Black Swan couple, and the Canadians, but although I know nothing technically about skating the Americans (Scherezade) were so fast, exciting and flawless they deserved it!
  11. Well I've just had an Email from the ROH, intervals for Sleeping Beauty confirmed as 20 minutes, finishing time 10.25 pm, thank heavens for Union rules! Intervals were only 20 minutes at the ROH in the past, and that was with old-fashioned scenery changing!
  12. He did say that, I also think he meant the RB just wanted him to keep quiet, not dance anything new, just use him to sell tickets. I saw him dance since 1965 and he is the greatest male dancer I've ever seen, I suppose you have the great dancers, the superstars, and then the legends such as Rudi that you only get to see once in a lifetime.
  13. After seeing The Art of Fugue again on Thursday I like it better than LFE and Carbon Life, and would book to see it again, especially with Natalia Osipova and Edward Watson who are an exciting partnership in McGregor. If anything it seemed less "hyper" than normal, perhaps due to the calming influence of the music. Another one I would like to see again is Qualia. In Rhapsody Steven McRae's technique is out of this world, especially the last section, and although Gloria didn't make quite the same impact it used to Sarah Lamb was a very tragic figure.
  14. I find that the ice skating that starts at around 5pm before the highlights at 7pm on BBC2 very good, watched the men's last night and wanted the Japanese boy to win although he had some falls, and then he did win because all the other men made errors too, they all seemed good natured though which makes a change from the tension and tears, even the German boy who rather threw it all away. What I don't like is that the commentators keep droning on the whole time and the music is kept down, the only time that might not happen is the Gala.
  15. It does seem unfair that Ali gets the most cheers at the end, but of all the Ali's I saw at the Coliseum Yonah Acosta's was the most exciting, glad to hear it wasn't a one-off! The others were more elegant, but he had more animal power, rather like Carlos
  16. I watched the pairs free programme ice skating last night, can't remember any names but thought the standard was outstanding, especially the last couples to skate, and really artistic as well as spectacular, shame the Chinese couple didn't get the bronze, but it's not just based on the final programme, the Russians who got gold and silver were beautiful. I had been trying to think of that wonderful Russian couple who used to skate so artistically, and last night they were in the crowd, the Protopopov's, brought back memories.
  17. I don't know if this has been mentioned but Rupert Pennefather is now due to dance 5 times in Sleeping Beauty, 3 with Lauren Cuthbertson and 2 with Roberta Marquez, replacing Nehemiah Kish. Good to see Vadim Muntagirov's name is now showing against the 25th March, about time.
  18. Saw Rhapsody and Art of Fugue last night, although someone told me the tube strike was over I was still uncertain so missed Gloria, anyway it was already 9.20 when I got out, and I couldn't face another 30 minute interval for a 25 minute ballet! Very happy to see Valentino Zuchetti again, he has been doing very well these last weeks, he always looks happy to be dancing and has powerful punchy technique, also don't think I've seen Yuhui Choe in this role before, very lovely. Thought the lighting could have been stronger, it seemed to vary across the stage. Actually quite liked The Art of Fugue, at least the costumes were colourful and made the dancers visible, also the lighting structures were bright, the music didn't really make much impact on me and as usual for me with Wayne McGregor, the choreography for the pdd and solo's was fascinating and brilliant, but when everyone was dancing it looked a muddle. I suppose the abrupt ending for Paul Kay had a purpose, but it didn't work for me, maybe Bach stopped in the middle of a fugue?
  19. I had forgotten about the Olympics and turned the TV on about 5.30pm just in time to see Ivan Vasiliev doing something amazing, so decided to watch the rest, thought it was all very artistic paying particular attention to Russian music and art, liked the sequence to Swan Lake music but wouldn't known it was Diana Vishneva, I can now see it was as there is a photo of her on the front page of today's Times. There is good coverage of the ice skating, next week's Radio Times has a booklet included, the highlights are on BBC2 at around 5pm, and full coverage on the red button at about 3pm.
  20. I had an idea Natalia Osipova might be dancing in the new ballet as it's taken so long to announce. I loved everything about Sweet Violets, the music, choreography and design, it helps if you know the history of Jack the Ripper, The Camden Town Murder, and Walter Sickert
  21. Very exciting programme last night, gave me a chance to see some pieces I knew from DVD, Ivan Putrov in Narcisse, Valentino Zucchetti in Vestris and Who Cares, and Rainer Krenstetter and Marian Walter from Berlin Ballet in the Proust duet, all beautfully danced. Marian Walter again in Lacrimosa was the highlight of the evening for me, the Evening Standard calls him a "sculpted wonder", sublime dancing to sublime Mozart music! Loved the way Vadim Muntagirov didn't show off his technique in Spectre but subdued it, this difficult to pull off pdd really worked, dreamy dancing by him and Elena Glurdjidze. Wasn't that keen on 3 With D, too much sitting around on chairs and not enough dancing, but the Arthur Pita solo for Edward Watson was crazy but great fun, as was Sinnerman with Daniel Proietto, and yes I did enjoy Affi much more the second time round, the sound system for all the recorded music was superb from where I was sitting. Hope this version of Men in Motion or another one comes back soon!
  22. I went to the Barbican yesterday and picked up the theatre brochure, and the running time for Lest We Forget is 3 hours with 3 intervals.
  23. I pretty much hated Affi at SW, even the music, I'll watch the hands then tonight!
  24. All of them that are not based on real life stories really, think of Swan Lake, rather pathetic Prince falls in love with a white swan and is fooled by a black swan pretending to be white, if anyone ever asks me in the theatre if I know the story I always say sorry no because I couldn't keep a straight face Ratmansky's Bolt is certainly bonkers.
