  1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira afro-brazillian martial art training thing which is also very much like some contemporary dance stuff
  2. warm up boots make fab slippers depending on your shoe size you may want the next size down to the recommended sizings as a the 'size 6- 8 ' adult will take a size 8 foot in pointes ... I know @sophie_rebecca says she fits into the size smaller than her shoe size in soft shoes / without ballet shoes
  3. i suspect those doing it en pointe will be those who really really really want to and VGE students wanting extra NQF3 and 4 points
  4. that fits with stuff i have heard come out of the mouths of ex principal dancers and ballet masters ... although some companies do want their lines of 'little <TLA school / awardign body> robots' ... despite some of their more memorable works and dancers not fitting that ...
  5. where does it fit ? - as an alternative to the VGEs for those who can't / don't / won't go en pointe - - as enrichment for higher grades /VGE students - something for the adult recreational dancer who does or doesn't want to do pointe but wants a challenge that isn't the VGEs? ( ideal world would have seen a 2 or 3 stage adult beginners / improvers syllabus - as there;s plenty of teachers out there from local schools up to current and ex company ballet masters who have their own beginner syllabuses and interestingly they seem to be quite similar - in that my teacher at 'home' uses similar exercises to those David Kierce uses in his classes and had similar ideas of what the first part of adult improver should include that isn't necessarily in the grades until g4 or 5 )
  6. pointe is optional it's the student's award and the student's exam fee but not every teacher is going to see that ... one of the reasons DR says pointe is optional is to allow those who can't / won't / don;t the chance at a UK NQF3 or 4 award
  7. [please excuse the sarcasm below a ' profile reassignment procedure ' if you please ... 'that phrase' is deprecated ... however the this doesn't have ethical approval and the whole real life experience thing seems to have been missed out ... but seriously it;s worth checking that the systems don;t change things like that occasionally ... get ready for certain forum members (Profile Exclusionary Radical Posters) to get offended , hopefully they won't threaten the admins with violence or plan to steal a car, covertly surveil Balletco towers and then firebomb it while everyone is out ...
  8. So no one is ever published before they have a Doctorate ? Funny that, thousands of articles i've read , analysed and quoted when writing papers/ assignments / even my dissertation , not to mention clinical / operational policies and guidelines, business cases ( both in healthcare and in industry) obviously didn't exist , weren't peer reviewed and weren't published in peer reviewed Journals...
  9. QTS is a bit of a scam ... there is NO enclosure of title there is no Scope of Practice restricted to those holding QTS there is also no route to QTS without lining the pockets of those invested in delivering the training. ( unlike those professions where there is enclosure of title and restriction of scopes - where there are extensive routes in place to accredit and value the experience of those not coming into the profession straight from level 3 study) you only need look at the wailing and hand wringing of the Party Political aligned teaching unions over the suggestion that there should be a fast track entry for teaching for Military Senior NCos who have reached the end of their 22-30 year 'full' colours service in their mid forties to early 50s ) to see what a scam it all it never mind the fact a 22 year old with no actual experience of anything much is 'Qualified' and someone with a (higher) degree, extensive experience in teaching and assessing and decades of experience in their field is 'Unqualified' ...
  10. part of the problem there is that the shift from school where 100% is achievable to Higher Education where 100 % even at first year level means ' this work is publishable in a peer reviewed journal as it stands' is a big jump especialyl for those used to being big fish in very small ponds
  11. as one of my t-shirts says ' Ballet : like a sport but harder '
  12. People want to take their kids out of school earlier or come back later to save money on holidays... often misquoting the rules over the discretion of Headteachers to permit / authorise absences. Some schools with weak leadership avoid these debates and discussions by having a blanket we only count sickness absence as authorised ( in some cases illegally requesting fit notes ) ... Rather than displaying some glandular fortitude and making a call based in defensible common sense.
  13. That's my point ... the yes /no / maybe decision from the class element leaves that group of people the panel want to see more of - but thry are the maybes ... the yeses they've seen enough , ditto the nos.
  14. it;s all about the glandular fortitude of the SLT, i.e. whether they have the wherewithal to stand firm against those who become abusive when they are told ' cos we can get it cheaper' is not a reason to authorise an absence , when they do authorisae an absence for an activity being taught by actual professionals in that activity and which has definite educational value ...
  15. why put the 'hell yes' through doing their solos ... at any stage in any application for anything you fall into one of three groups 'yes ' , 'no' and 'maybe'
  16. absolutely no reason why not , depends on the glandular fortitude of the school's SLT/SMT in doing so
  17. there are a number of the retailers who will do next day / first class post
  18. that can be the case at 'normal' HEIs as well - also stuff like bills if you are in certain accomodation , plus your printing + reprographics account etc etc etc
  19. you appear to have missed the point with regard to the nature of the payments and how they are accounted for in terms of the income to recipient organisation
  20. IIRC Aud Jebsen stuff is related to the Jebsen family who iirc are Anglo-Norwegian Shipping company owners ... I would suggest that this funding is probably covered by the the classification of ' income from charitable donations' in that the Jebsen family / companies make these payments as a 'charitable' donation to offset again personal income tax or company corporation taxes ...
  21. Floss i don't think that anyone is making the claim that the rest of the big 5 / 6 companies don't have commercial imperatives even if parts of the organisation are NFP or charity and AFAIR New Adventures are a business per se. The other companies don't have the overhead of having residence in the way that RB have with the ROH this allows them the possibility or more risks but equally a complete turkey could damage their chances of using some of the larger theatres they use at present.
  22. Travelodge King's Cross is iirc about half a mile from Central. I have a consultant appt in that there London in March and checked distances to herbal hill from various hotel options as i'm in London on the Thursday and Friday evenings ( which means David K and Hannah F central nights )

    Old Money!!

Tenners turn over quicker because of cash machines... coinage tends to go back to 'the centre' less frequently...
  24. F1 has become processional. Occaisionally you see 'classic' ( pre carbon fibre) f1 cars being raced atvarious motorsport events no electronics beyond the ignition system and marginal traction... completely different spectacle. If F1 allowed it the cars would be drones andcthe drivers would be sat in their cockpit in an ISO box in leafy english suburbia or at the Farrari factory...
