  1. good question as it should be viewed as a 'system' purchase i.e. shoes and toe padding
  2. as Jan points out there;s a number of threads on TBR on here and quite a few of the TBR regulars including facualty are social media savvy - we can be found on twitter and in various of the ballet groups on facebook
  3. An Ashton Season with the 'big five / six' companies would be fab , and if that works as well as the Macmillan season , then colloborative stuff like this will have been 'proven '
  4. assuming they will let you on - they have some very funny ideas on what is an acceptable email address to sign up with ...
  5. there hasn;t been performances of more than one at a time , but when theyare performed they d o explicitly sate you don;t need to be bringing children to watch ! also Northern do like to do new works for their full length pieces rather than relying on bankers of even their ( company or senior staff) back catalogues
  6. claiming Northern concentrate solely on full length pieces is a little disingenuous in my opinion. and for the record , although most people know this i am a bit of a Northern Ballet Fan Girl which other companies have produced , almost entirely in-house as a Nursery slope for choreography/ direction for company dancers) half a dozen or so of their own new one act pieces in the last decade ? or don't the ' little ballets for little audiences' count ? - often developed from ideas within their annual in house cheorographic development activities ... as a touring companies and given their origins it's not surprising that Northern do focus on the three act pieces, beut equally they don;t necessarily rely on bankers - vs new pieces
  7. a little light relief on the topic
  8. you've got a lot of hormonal stuff going on which will effect mood, add in the fact that it can seem like you are dancing in a different body constantly ( because frankly you are whether thats growth spurts or for those undergoing a female puberty the changes to centre of gravity - boy puberty tends to change CoG less - you are dancign in a different body ...
  9. the car analogy is a good one , dancers are the main ( if not only) group of people who think really hard about shoe choice ( ok serious track and field athletes do to a degree but their customisation beyond the basic length / width is slot in ( i.e. orthotics and custom insoles) or the equivalent to ribbon and elastics choices .. even if pointe shoes themselves came fully into the 21st century in terms of how they were made , you'd still have all the options and you;d still need to sew your own ribbons -
  10. amazing how after the mid 80s strikes very few extra curriculars got back up and running in some places ...
  11. and unfortunately you can blame the teaching unions for this ...
  12. quite possibly ... it might also be aobut how she carries herself in comparison with some of her contemporaries ... cf 'playing age' of actors ...
  13. that sounds more like what is currently being called 'freestyle' and until a few years ago was called disco even though it;s got very little to do with the 1970s
  14. I suspect the numbers game comes into play - which at entry to (pre) professional training is not an equal one due to the self selection biases , societal overlay and all that...
  15. Not sure why people are complaining that that DR level 2 includes new material over and above gr 3 , surely gr 4 / 5 and IF do as well ... a link to the page in question would be appeciated as i can;t find any reference to the statement over why no NQF level 1 qualification is offered
  16. if it was the Blue Man Group it would be irony ...
  17. let;s see if she can keep him or whether he joins the list of those who move on because Ms Rojo prefers to bring in guest principals to dance opposite herself
  18. despite the prices of tickets to even quite modest levels of kickball as well ... how ever it is about 'going to ' not taking part in ... Opera in particular is seen as something that only happens at expensive venues
  19. i did make a similar suggestion earlier in the thread ideal world would see the adult beginner syllabus as a CDET project rather than specifically RAD and then each ofthe award bodies could opt in and produce their materials using their house style and technique definitions ...
  20. you;d need to ask an examiner or RAD HQ exactly how much choice there is
  21. AFAIK based on the discussions on the topic here and elsewhere , if you wanted to be assessed for any RAD grade or VGE 'as a boy' or 'as a girl ' all you need to do is ensure that the examiner ( and pianist ) are aware of it . remember also that uniform is not compulsory and there is no requirement for 'congruent gender expression ' ... unsure as to the state of play with the other awarding bodies but i suspect that the CDET member bodies would likely follow what RAD has done in the light of equality and diversity good practice and the risk that something could be proven to be Discrimination by Association or Discrimination by Perception some notes from ACAS on discrimination by association and discrimination by perception http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=5362
  22. pages 157 and 158 of the RAD specification gives marking information for the DR programme, no marks available or deducted for the 'female' variations to be performed en pointe or not
  23. not sure what it says in the specification, but what do the VGE certificates state as female / pointe vs male / none pointe ? even the entire of DR is enrichment / recreational award what is gained other than petty bragging rights ...
