  1. Just another thought on locked threads and bans from mentioning ..... From the point of view of discussion in a forum, it might be helpful if some timescale could be indicated. Eg. nobody is allowed to mention Ballet West for at least x number of weeks (while x happens - if that can be outlined).
  2. Imagining myself in the position of a mother of a named child on this forum, I would be very grateful if the moderators locked threads while they consider what is being said about my child rather than allow comments to run away with themselves. In instances of criticism against paid professionals, then I would caution all posting to bear in mind the very real-world possibility of being held to account for what is written ...... which doesn't mean, "Don't post". It just means, be mindful of the law.
  3. Yes, I think that's an important point. Dancers aren't excluded from entering RBS just because they have over-stretched their bodies up to that point, but whilst with the RBS, their focus should change to be in line with safe training.
  4. Homeschooling in the UK is the exception, not the norm. It is difficult for parents of children with learning difficulties to reach a decision where they feel confident to withdraw their children from mainstream schooling ..... to withdraw a child because you, as their parent, are confident that they need to drop all extraneous curricular activities in order to focus on one sole passion that you may or not be able to resource financially and tecnically ....... It has to be a leap of faith that could far too easily turn into a leap of folly.
  5. TBH Aisha, I have bought ballet shoes for my children for as little as £6/7 and they have been fine in the first instance. PM me if you want online links, or if you'd like me to send you several pairs of second-hand barely-or-even-never-worn ballet shoes (it can be hit-and-miss when your kids are growing!). Perhaps your Gran could buy you a leotard for Christmas instead ..... ?
  6. Perhaps it might help too if you say you're looking for "ballet shoes" rather than "ballet pumps" .... that way, it will be clear that you want shoes to wear for ballet rather than fashion shoes (like the ones you already own) 🙂 .
  7. I was shocked to learn recently that Adult Psychiatrists apparently receive no training in autism. It is only the Psychiatrists who choose to specialise in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry after their initial course who receive training in autism. No wonder that there is so little awareness in Adult Services! I strongly believe that training in autism should be made compulsory for Psychiatrists as well as other healthcare professionals.
  8. I hadn't seen it before - thanks for the link 🙂
  9. I can't get the vimeo link to work at all, either by copying and pasting or trimming ... but I think this is the same video on Youtube (?) -
  10. Yvonnep ... the link https://vimeo.com/138445109 didn't work for me. Did I get it wrong? Would love to watch it!
  11. It is possible to get anywhere doing anything. And nowhere doing everything. There are no guarantees. If 'dance' is a 1mx1m square, then your chances of securing a permanent contract in a classical ballet company are perhaps a 1cmx1cm square within it. And that's before you look globally. I seriously wouldn't worry too much at this point of your journey. Just enjoy the ride.
  12. Just wondering if Carly Jones might be able to help? Website with contact info at http://britishautismadvocate.simpl.com [edit to add - I know the focus of her work is on autism in women and girls, but she has a lot of advocacy experience]
  13. Nicola, if you knew that Arucaria is still only a teenager, then your comment shows an outstanding lack of moral kindness and empathy. To accuse a child of this is abusive in the extreme. If you didn't know Arucaria's age when you wrote this comment, then your readiness to attack a stranger is disturbing and bordering on sociopathic.
  14. It is certainly a journey, yes - but it might be more helpful to think of it as a journey to an unknown destination ...... Enjoy the sights, but be prepared to explore every diversion, every potential change of track and every other holiday brochure along the way. Above all, don't drive if tired and watch out for travel sickness.
  15. The organisational problems in Devon don't have anything to do with BBA - it's the centre that has been double-booking etc. All BBA classes have been run, even when the venue has needed to be changed (apart from when unavoidable because of the snow) and the teaching is exceptional!
  16. When it comes down to it, RAD results are only a snapshot of a particular child on a particular day. My daughter is 12 and has passed both her RAD Grade 7 and RAD Intermediate exams with distinction (I can't remember the exact marks but both were in the 80s). Whilst obviously nice to know, it says more about the quality of the teaching and the opportunities she has had than it does about her absolute ability in relation to any other 12 year-old in the country.
  17. I honestly don't think it matters a jot. They're more interested in what the feet look like without anything on at all than they are in what's covering them. Perhaps just make sure that whichever shoes she wears aren't too smelly as they have to take them off!
  18. Handy quote from The Good Place: "I wasn't a failed DJ - I was pre-successful"
  19. As you said in your post, being on the autistic spectrum will make your son very socially vulnerable .... which I believe is the most important part of your dilemma. If you are up front about his additional needs, then all adults working with him will be aware of how he may need extra support in peer group contexts, as well as in academic contexts. Personally, I would put his emotional wellbeing first and let RBS know how they can help him to shine :-)
  20. For a tongue-in-cheek version of exam etiquette .... https://youtu.be/cQskb7Ug-n4
  21. I bought it from amazon.fr https://www.amazon.fr/gp/aw/d/B01N2VY9B2/
  22. If you search for 'fete de ballet bonynge' in Google Play Music, you can buy track 1 of Disc 9 for £1.99. The tambourine bit is at 6.44 .... perhaps you could cut it from the whole track? Edited to add: the CD is called 'Fete du Ballet', but Google Play Music only seems to find it if you search for 'fete DE ballet' .... !
  23. Just to suggest a wider perspective that face and hairline spots (at least in my experience of having daughters!) are often signs of the beginnings of puberty/menstruation .....
  24. I can't imagine that it woud have any effect whatsoever either way ..... but the belts are always too large for my daughter, so I cut them to size and sew them together again. I have zero talent in sewing, but it seems to work!
