  1. I heard this programme by chance and thought it was wonderful!
  2. Just seen on Twitter: due to injury, Jurgita Dronina will be replaced by Rina Kanehara in the role of Odette/Odile for tomorrow's matinee performance.
  3. But that situation has arisen this season, so it's not unreasonable to fear that it might again. (Though I agree - and hope - that it would have been announced by now if so.)
  4. I'm so sorry about Corrales. I suppose (hope) that part of the reason he's being replaced for performances right into March may be that all this rep is new to him, so it's not just a question of brushing up a role (which would/could be quicker once he's fit again) but of learning it from scratch.
  5. Just seen on Twitter that due to illness Joseph Caley is replaced tonight by Isaac Hernandez.
  6. I assumed it was just because he won't be back from Cats yet - or was he due back by then?
  7. Yes, really interesting interview. Made me understand how crucial the conductor is for ballet, in that the orchestra absolutely have to follow him/her given that they can't see anything for themselves. (Of course orchestras always should follow the conductor! But that doesn't necessarily always happen all the time. And unlike with choral or operatic collaborators, the players can't see the dancers so the conductor is their eyes.)
  8. Great pics, Don Q Fan! Thanks for posting and I'm glad you enjoyed the performance so much.
  9. It would be helpful if they would supply consistent information about their performances/tickets rather than shooting the messenger. And the website still says 'limited availability' where in fact none, etc. Very irritating! Hope you enjoy the performance, Bruce!
  10. I see a bit of professional one-upmanship starting here. Let's just acknowledge that we're all stars, and we've all nailed it, and we're all incredibly proud of ourselves and each other, shall we?
  11. I think it was a good bill for adults. But with a different middle ballet it could have been a good bill for families/children too. I suppose it just depends what the RB/ROH decided they wanted to offer at Christmas. Not everything has to be suitable for children; but it's a bit surprising that they didn't want to target that market too (as an alternative to Nutcracker).
  12. I can only assume that this bill was not in fact aimed at families/children, but as an alternative bill to The Nutcracker for those NOT looking for a family/child-friendly show.
  13. It begins to sound as if we could form a company. What about The Royal National BalletForum Company? We've all been there after all. 😆🧚‍♂️🧚‍♀️
  14. You'd think the RB wouldn't be thrilled with someone claiming to have been in the company (or the school) when they haven't.
  15. Well since I didn't pass the box office, I didn't see any cast change notice if there was one on Friday evening (at the Coliseum). There was no indication of any changes where I picked up my cast sheet. And I don't know all the dancers by sight so I don't even know for sure who I saw now! Really bad. I suppose I've disliked the Coliseum for so many years that I don't expect to gain any enjoyment from going there, other than (hopefully) in the performance. I just keep my head down and head for my seat/s. Whereas the ROH used to feel welcoming.
  16. I was out last night, and if I hadn't been I suppose I might have watched this programme just in case. I'm now very glad I was out!! It sounds positively dire.
  17. … or even, The Journey of the Magi?! (Which is what I meant)
  18. Jeepers!! Swan Lake as the triumph of evil over good. Hmm. But certainly dramatic, though so bleak that I also found it a bit inadvertently comic at times, I'm afraid. (Though I don't suppose I would have in real life.)
  19. Yes - I've just re-read the programme note for Act IV, which ends: 'With her fate sealed, Odette rushes to the rock and plunges into the lake. Through her sacrifice, the sorcerer's power is destroyed and Siegfried is left to cradle the lifeless body of the Princess.' But why then does the swan appear above him? Is she effectively just saying goodbye, as you suggest? Or is her spirit still living even if her body is dead? (Or can we choose either option?!).
  20. Yes, the last RB production had them united in death. (As did the one before it.)
  21. That makes me feel so nostalgic! Enigma Variations was the first ballet I ever saw (in October 1977), and Dowell was Troyte, and (exceptionally!) I was sitting in the stalls circle very near the stage. So I saw Dowell close-up in this solo. Not bad for a balletic initiation!
