  1. 8th June gone. 11th June still available. Thanks, May

  3. A few off the top of my head: Coppelia Les Patineurs - Ashton Tales of Beatrix Potter - Ashton (maybe a bit contentious...!) The Concert - Robbins Who Cares? - Balanchine Stars and Stripes - Balanchine
  4. I think there's certainly no harm in trying out other dance forms. I'm primarily a ballet person, I have tried contemporary, street, hip hop, tap, jazz, ballroom, latin, swing, but I have ended up sticking with ballet for various reasons. The main thing is I've tried it and that lets me make an informed choice. You might take a class and decide you become absolutely hooked. Which is great, I think it's good as a person to broaden horizons and experience different things. Having more than one skill under your belt will certainly benefit you - you never know when it will come in handy. You're 15, still very young, if you end up choosing dance as a career you never know if at the next audition someone requires a dancer to do both a bit of hip hop and ballet? A few years back English National Ballet collaborated with Flawless, hip hop crew of Britain's Got Talent, so hip hop and ballet do mash up sometimes. Or you might try it and decide it's not actually for you. But at least you won't ever wonder "what if". Ballet need not be all about frilly tuts and tiaras. You don't have to wear a skirt if you don't want to. Plenty of people wear shorts / trousers / leggings. Or layer up in warm up gear which to me looks like black bin bags... but I digress. At least you have the convenience that you are part of a dance club and you can ask if you can join a class, rather than having to google / search around for a ballet class. Give it a go, and let us know how you get on too! Best wishes, May
  5. I have an amphi R53 for £29. Please let me know if this is acceptable? Thanks, May
  6. For sale: RB Swan lake 8th June (Cuthbertson Bonelli cast) Amphi P40 £29 11th June (Naghdi Kish cast) Amphi R53 £29
  7. I'm looking for a ticket and interested if we can strike a deal?
  8. Missed the boat with public booking. If you have a spare ticket please keep me in mind! Thanks, May
  9. I did a PBT workshop a few years back and taught 10 classes as a standalone course. We did a 1 hour PBT session straight into a 1.5 hour ballet class for Intermediate / Advanced Adult students. The results were very positive. The dancers felt in themselves, and also from what I could see standing in front of the class, stronger, more aligned, and better stamina. Those exercises are hard work! And they are very exposing as you work a lot on a gym ball which tells you straight away when your weight is not in the right place. I have used it as part of my "getting back in shape" plan after having my first child, it really does get the core going.
  10. Hello! I'm running one, the studios are located near Marylebone. Please have a look at www.aspireballet.org for info. Feel free to PM me or ask me here if you have any questions! Thanks, May
  11. DISCOUNT AVAILABLE! We are running an early bird booking discount of £25 off if booking before 31 May 2018. Use discount code EARLYBIRD25 at checkout. ATTENTION MALE STUDENTS I have provisioned for 2 pointe classes. The venue only has 1 studio so as of now I cannot offer a men's class. However if I have enough interest from men, I may be able to change the plans and offer something for the men instead. So please do get in touch if you are male and are interested. My aim is to make this enjoyable for all and I want to provide something that people actually want. Thanks, May
  12. Thanks Kate! I've been incognito on here for a long time but thought I should make my presence "official" on here. The ultimate aim is to invite Scott over here for his teacher certification, so hopefully this will continue for years to come!
  13. Announcing the Aspire Ballet Summer Course for Adults, in London, to be held on 12-18 August 2018. There will be an in-studio sharing performance at the end of the course. Faculty are Scott Putman and Natalie Krapf. I will be very happy to answer any questions. May
  14. I personally use the perfect pointe insert. It's an American product and I get stung by customs every time I order. But worth the money in my opinion. Link here. Mods please remove if links are not allowed. http://perfectfitpointe.com It's a kit they send you where you mix 2 little tubs of clay-like mixtures together. You then put onto your toes, then put the included fabric on top, then put the pointe shoe on. It fills up all the space in the shoe and eliminates all the pressure points. I only have to tape 1 toe with micropore tape to prevent a blister. Disclaimer: not affiliated with the company. Just a happy customer!
  15. For me I need to be able to see the dancer. Black costumes against black background (Swan Lake Act 3 comes to mind...!) is a no no for me. I can only see a head and 2 hands, but I want to see the whole body!
  16. I'm hoping for Choe but I don't think it's likely either. Naghdi may be another candidate?
  17. Very quickly typing off the Dance Consortium pages: This is their current UK / Ireland tour listing: http://www.danceconsortium.com/touring/les-ballets-trockadero-de-monte-carlo-2018/tour-dates-and-venues/ And the page for the programme they're putting on: http://www.danceconsortium.com/touring/les-ballets-trockadero-de-monte-carlo-2018/programme/ To summarise: Prog A (Inverness, Edinburgh, Belfast, Canterbury, Southampton, Newcastle, Cardiff): Les Sylphides, Patterns in Space, Trovatiara, Paquita, plus a pas de deux. I'm sure the official press release will contain much more detail.
  18. Just read this. Hope it's ok to quote a paragraph from the article: "I want to look neat, I want my leotard to be clean and ironed and I will admit to buying more skirts than I actually need, but otherwise, what I look like is a secondary concern. It’s the time of the week when my body gets the least mental abuse, to be honest." 1. Who irons their leotards?! 2. I definitely have more skirts than I need. 3. I suppose she meant least "mental abuse" from life, as I do really have to leave real life behind, have a complete change of mindset, and concentrate on me, myself and I, for the duration of the class. In some cases when I get a brain teaser from my teacher (and then asked to reverse it), the brain doesn't work any less hard than some of my most difficult problems at work...!
  19. Check out the Watermans Art Centre in Brentford. It's a little bit of way out, the stage is not massive, but it was a nice little theatre. https://www.watermans.org.uk/hire/theatre/
  20. The program looks really interesting especially for the Dance term. I wish I could attend. Damn my full time job which requires me to be in the office on Fridays....
  21. I believe that is an assemblé en tournant making 2 revolutions in the air?
  22. I started ballet as an adult again when I was 23, then went on to take the ballet teaching degree at the RAD when I was around 27. There was also another mature student on the course with me. (I did maybe 2 years of weekly classes when I was about 6 or 7. I don't consider that proper instruction as I didn't realise the steps had names.) Some people decide to not do the 3 year on site degree course, but do either the distance learning degree, or the CBTS. The full range of courses they provide that will lead to a teaching qualification, can be found here. When I was applying for the RAD, I also applied for a few other universities. There were programs at Roehampton, Kingston, Middlesex, among others (I limited myself to London universities as that's where I live. There are other programs around the country). ucas.com would be a good starting point to search. You're welcome to ask me any further questions either on here or on PM! S
  23. Could the kebab imagery work in pirouettes? Maybe?
