  1. I believe they are for unseen enchainements, which are set by the examiner in the exam x
  2. Yikes, 20 minutes into the first episode & im a bit startled ???? Am hoping that whoever came up with the concept of this series had no experience of company life & was just going for the 'shock factor'!!!
  3. I can't seem to find anything online about this Aileen- there is info about the shows but not auditions, could you please post a link? Thank you
  4. One of my cats, shortly after we adopted him from a rescue centre, had his first attempt at stalking a bird. He was crouched, ready to pounce for the kill (the bird, who couldn't care less, was still a good 5 metres away)- the bird flew away & my poor kitty flew back through the door in terror! And no, his hunting skill hasn't improved since
  5. To me, there are 3 options; Audition for companies Get a job teaching Do a post-graduate programme such as the one at Northern Ballet in Leeds. Obviously, these options are just what I personally am looking at, and some of these, such as as the first and second, could be done at the same time. Also, it depends upon what you are looking to achieve- for example some people may choose to retrain in a completely different profession etc.
  6. I believe they give a choice of dates, and will accept auditions via video if necessary x
  7. sorry for the slightly dumb question, but for future reference, if I travel from zones 1-5 (Euston to Richmond) will that only cost £2.20 on my Oystercard seeing as it's a single journey?
  8. Ooh thank you PdQ Here is my slightly late review of the opening night of the tour; http://ballerinadreamsdancediary.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/the-snow-queen.html?m=1
  9. Oh no I'm so sorry that your DD is struggling was she feeling upset just on one particular day, or has it been an ongoing issue? The reason I ask is because sometimes we as DC away from home can worry our dancing parents endlessly with upset phone calls, because in the moment everything seems awful- when the next day all is fine again! Obviously I'm not disregarding your dd's struggling at all, I completely get how she's feeling- admittedly, I was so homesick during the first half term that I did consider not going back after the break... I've found that rather than thinking "6 weeks to Christmas break feels like forever!" It's better to think "6 weeks until Christmas break- what do I want to achieve by then?!" Being very focussed helps to ward off homesickness it seems- having plenty of stuff to do always works! I think it's difficult to adjust to a new school, new teachers, new teaching styles and new friends, which is why the first term or so is so hard- but hopefully it will get easier as time goes on! Anyway I do feel for your poor DD- and you as a parent, it must be so difficult. It can be distressing when the reality doesn't live up to the childhood dream of going to ballet school.... I hope you manage to get DD sorted and happy again xxx
  10. Do you know where the music was from/by for the act 1 pas de Trois? I learnt the variations at summer school last year but haven't been able to find the music online...
  11. I can imagine your disgust upon realising what you'd done put X-Factor or Strictly on to keep you occupied whilst you continue de-bobbling! And just wait until your DD starts pointe- I recently spent half an hour sewing ribbons onto my new shoes, only to realise that the shoe slipped off my heel and the ribbon gaped because it wasn't sewn at perfectly precisely the right angle (and don't even get me started on laboriously breaking in a pair of pointe shoes, then enuring classes feeling like I had bricks on the bottom of my feet- only for them to be dead after a few weeks so the pointe shoe cycle starts again....)
  12. I agree, keep her in- if she's scared she'll hide under the sofa or somewhere she feels warm and safe, I think she'd be more panicked if she was trapped outside (and it could be dangerous for her to be near fireworks) x
  13. Yes, hamstring flexibility in the supporting leg is important- but also back flexibility & core strength. So just work on stretching/strengthening those areas penché in the centre wasn't required in any of the auditions I did, but occasionally it is asked for at the barre x
  14. Thewinelake, "Character" in the RAD syllabus means national dances- Hungarian, Polish, Russian etc, which is probably what your phone's suggestion refers to. In festivals, however, "Character" refers to dances that have a character, such as a fairy, witch or doll, to tell some kind of story- I think that's the kind of character dance the OP was referring to hope that helps! (Correct me if im wrong with any of that!)
  15. Awh that's so sweet! Yes, I'm really enjoying it thank you x
  16. At Ballet West our timetable changes every week but so far it has been between 16 and 25 hours of classes a week x
  17. The Hunger Games could work well- my instinctive thought was that they could do the scene where they are preparing to go into the arena, or the scene where Rue dies? I helped to adjudicate at a festival a few months ago; one piece that stood out for me was an African tribal style character solo entitled 'Famine', something like that could work well? Or what about a completely abstract piece- Kandinsky's paintings might be a good stimulus? Does your DD know what music she wants to use?
  18. I can definitely recommend En Pointe Orthotics- since I was fitted with my orthotics in the summer, all of my pointe classes have been blissfully pain-free
  19. I believe that would be 'merde'- it is a French expletive though so be careful where you use it
