Wheeldon Triple Bill - February/March 2016
alison replied to Jacqueline's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
No need to apologise, Fonty And, no, not unless her surname is Avegno, which I somehow doubt, given that the character in question appears to be a friend rather than a parent.- 186 replies

Choreartium is Massine, isn't it? BRB danced that at Covent Garden sometime in the early 90s, I think - although of course it's a plotless work.- 186 replies

Ian, you currently have a total of 5 posts: there's no way anyone could accuse you of "hogging" any thread Anyway, it was good to see you this afternoon after so long. Time constraints and other things mean I shall hold off commenting until I've been to all the performances in this run, but I do share your enthusiasm for Downs and Day (you must have missed her: she was the original Greta in Pita's The Metamorphosis, with Ed Watson), and was very moved by the whole thing. Seriously, folks: the programme is on until Saturday. With a special offer on tickets, and the Chiltern Railways £15 return for people living on or near that line, what's stopping you?

ENB Announces Autumn '16 / Spring '17 Season

Well, ENB/LFB have a bit of history in that department: they once did the Ashton and the Nureyev Romeo & Juliets - I think in consecutive weeks.- 20 replies

Giselle modern productions
alison replied to Duck's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
When Janet's next on here, I expect she'll be talking about Northern Ballet Theatre's old production of Giselle: was it set in a concentration camp, or just in WWII?- 19 replies

Giselle modern productions
alison replied to Duck's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Exactly. Just because it's clothed in old-fashioned garb doesn't mean that it doesn't deal in eternal truths, and those are still relevant to us today. Some men (and women, of course) are still cheats and betrayers, and the message about love and forgiveness is still a powerful one. On the other hand, I suppose you could say that La Sylphide has eternal truths of the "grass always looks greener elsewhere" variety, yet it doesn't inspire people in the same way.- 19 replies

Talking about £10 ticket offers: when I got to Moor Street today I noticed outside the station an offer which is a £15 return Birmingham-London with Chiltern Trains (booking?) until 6th March. I mention it in case there is a way of reversing it and making it useful for London-Brum as well, although I haven't checked the T&Cs.

Wheeldon Triple Bill - February/March 2016
alison replied to Jacqueline's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Thanks. Was it last year's I was thinking of, then, or am I confusing two separate performances? I'd still have thought it was ridiculously early for friends and relations coming from hundreds of miles away to get to the ROH in time without shelling out for a hotel the night before. Still, I suppose it would have the advantage of finishing just in time for the Wimbledon Ladies' Final to start Anyway, thank you very much, Jenny, for getting this thread back on course, and my apologies for slightly diverting it again.- 186 replies

Wheeldon Triple Bill - February/March 2016
alison replied to Jacqueline's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Yes, but someone's always got to be on last. The people I'd feel most sorry for would be e.g. the extras in Infra, having to wait all that time just to walk across the stage. Yes, it certainly shows up better from upstairs. "Without constraint"? Well, not unless they abandon the practice of booting everyone out of the building ASAP afterwards. In my experience, most people are going to head off home afterwards, regardless of finishing time. Or stand outside the stage door for hours, I suppose. Exactly. And what ludicrous time is this year's RBS matinee? Am I right in thinking it's 11 am, and on a Sunday, or am I imagining it?- 186 replies

Royal Ballet Period 4 Casting
alison replied to Lynette H's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Casting (now, at least) looks to me to be the same as the current run. With another 6 performances, it's a bit of a shame they couldn't have supplied a third cast.- 56 replies

Looking for a first job - questions about travel/accommodation
alison replied to pastel's topic in Doing Dance
Another thing which might be worth throwing into the mix, location-wise, is that I believe both Clapham Junction and East Croydon have an all-night rail service from Victoria because the service to Gatwick runs 24/7 - probably only 1 per hour, though. Not sure if there's something similar for the Heathrow line. -
Looking for a first job - questions about travel/accommodation
alison replied to pastel's topic in Doing Dance
The Met Police one? This reminds me that the Evening Standard property section (on Wednesdays, if that helps) ran a series of articles on more unconventional types of accommodation in London a while back. I seem to remember that one involved occupying unused buildings for security purposes (what that series "Crashing" on Channel 4 has been about - I can't think what the term for it is), but others were rather more potentially viable options. Trouble is, I don't know how you'd search the website for them. -
Mark Bruce Company: Odyssey tour
alison replied to LinMM's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Worth pointing out, perhaps, that they're on at Eastleigh in Hampshire at the end of April, a mere few days before South West Trains' special £15 return offer runs out Also, the theatre is about 5 minutes' walk from the station. -

Whoopee: after all these years of moaning, what has dropped into my inbox this morning but an email from Odeon entitled "Top event cinema screenings for Alison"! That's more like it.
