  1. I'm amazed: 5 of the 7 performances are currently showing as sold out! I never expected that that many people would be interested in an all-Wheeldon triple bill.
  2. Thank you for that, RippedJeans, and welcome to the forum.
  3. She was certainly dancing with them the other night: she was mentioned in the reviews for the first night of the recent bill.
  4. Excuse the mess - quotes not working here again - but: Nureyev didn't exactly respect the hierarchy, from what I remember, did he? Was Guillem the only one he promoted differently? Thanks, A frog. I could only interpret it as meaning that he had several ballerinas in mind for Sylphide, and one for Giselle, but it's good to have confirmation from a native speaker Does the POB *have* Les Sylphides in its repertory? Oh yes, I think so, from what I've picked up in recent years. The concentration on a more contemporary rep at the expense of the Classical was a feature of the last few years of the previous regime - in fact, it was going on for several years before this forum started up, because I remember people complaining about the season schedule on the old forum.
  5. Thank you for that, kameliendame. What's with the different costumes? Just SAB standard wear, or something else?
  6. I was just listening to the Rach/Pag (aka Rhapsody) on the radio earlier, and really noticed the absence of dancing At least my brain inserted a lot of it - I was surprised at how much it remembered.
  7. Ye gods - £40 for the balcony! It used to be £25. Oh well, I'll *have* to pass, then. There's no way I can afford that. EDIT: And now I look lower down, I see rather more seats still in the Dress and Upper Circles than I would normally expect one month ahead, so I guess other people may be baulking, too. This gala used to specifically raise funds for various charities, but I don't think I've seen any indication in recent years that it still is?
  8. I'm sure they won't all turn up - do they ever? - but even a sizeable proportion of the above ought to make for a good gala!
  9. I think it was 1933(?). 1928 sounds more like Apollo to me.
  10. This just in from Dance Books: Dance Books is delighted to announce a reprint of the book 'Ninette de Valois, Adventurous Traditionalist'. First published in 2012, the book quickly went out of print. Based on a conference held at the Royal Ballet School in 2011, the book contains essays by and interviews with some of de Valois' closest collaborators, and is accompanied by a 4-hour DVD of interviews, classes, and coaching sessions. As usual, you'll find full details, plus ordering facilities, at: www.dancebooks.co.uk
  11. Jacqueline, all your posts will always show your total number of posts: try posting another one, and they should all go up to 200.
  12. They *are* very dependent on the position of the seat in front, your own position, and the person in front of you, that's true. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I remember once going and getting one of those inflatable cushions from front of house - but then it's a long way down to the footrest.
  13. But, knowing how intense it gets on Dansomanie, probably only if you have several hours to spare ... That's a point: does Dansomanie have one of those "Print" settings or whatever that allows you to read several pages of text on one page? I don't think I've ever bothered trying. (Come to think of it, do we? EDIT: Sort of. There's a Print icon down towards the bottom left of the page along with all the social media icons and so on, but it looks as though it doesn't show more than one page at a time. It strips off the avatars, poster's details, signatures and so on, giving a simpler look with seemingly more text for your money.)
  14. Oh dear, do run the Paris Match article through Google Translate! "Stars, galas and also sponsors shovel."
  15. Drat. I had a suspicion it would be Giselle if I didn't take Tony's ticket
  16. But unfortunately there are no non-ageist, non-singlist ones which cover the entire country Casting for the first 2 performances is up: https://www.brb.org.uk/whats-on/event/ashton-double-bill#dates-and-times
  17. I wasn't aware of it either: I'm very sorry we shan't see her again (I missed her in Two Pigeons), but obviously it looks like the logical thing to do career-wise.
  18. Thank you, Ambros1a. I'm going to merge this thread into the main cinema thread now, so that we have all the information in one place.
  19. Lin, what railcard is this? As far as I know, the only one I'm eligible for (which I only renewed last week) is the Network Railcard, and that doesn't extend as far as Birmingham.
  20. This is a reconstructed version - of the Ivanov version, I presume? And that "offers no challenge" to the dancers?! Good grief.
