  1. I note that there are suddenly 2 very price Virgin trains back to London on the Saturday at the sort of time a football match might be expected to be finishing. Wonder if anyone has any good suggestions of where I might find out what matches might affect occupancy of which trains?
  2. Added: my goodness, I can't believe how cheap the tickets are, by normal BRB Hippodrome standards. Can I find some cheap rail fares? And actually, given the prices, I could be tempted to stay on for The Dream in the evening, too. Shame the trains are so slow in the evening or I could manage the entire evening performance. Wonder how much longer before BRB announce casting?
  3. Tutor for me too. Mind you, since none of the answer options were anything like what I'd choose given a proper choice, I don't know that it makes much difference.
  4. Sorry for hijacking the thread: I had a look at a few Picturehouse schedules (I've currently got a membership, so it's cheaper than anywhere else) and noticed that they do repeat performances of the Met broadcasts, but not of the RO ones, and this despite the fact that La Traviata is sold out in all of them. Is that normal? And  of the day - one Picturehouse has a Met repeat which totally overlaps with the Les Liaisons Dangereuses repeat from last week. Silly people - there must be quite a lot of people who'd have been interested to see both, surely?
  5. Digressing a bit, but RO Traviata live on Thursday: are the singers worth going to hear?
  6. The recording is due to be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 sometime this month, I understand - does anyone happen to know when? It can't be this weekend, because that's Cav and Pag, I think.

I find the prospect of Americans electing him to be the Leader of the Free World extremely scary. But then, I also found/find the prospect of the inhabitants of the UK voting on major changes to its future based on purely emotional and/or knee-jerk reactions to certain aspects - especially those stirred up by the media - rather than on a full overview of the situation pretty scary, too.
  8. I have, but it was years ago now, and I can't remember details. It's in storage at the moment, but I hope I will eventually get to see it again
  9. I've no experience in this particular area, of course, but agree that location is primary. When setting up any business, it would seem a good idea to dip your toe in the water and find out what the local market is like by using e.g. church halls as a base before you go ahead with any greater financial commitment. And as with any other financial commitment, banks and other lenders will want to see that you are a good risk (which probably means getting a good name for yourself first, I'd guess) and have a realistic business plan, so you'd probably be well advised to start reading up on those, too! It's all very well having a dream, but a lot of people have those and they fail because they've been unrealistic, so you *will* need to know how to run a business properly as well. Best of luck.
  10. Oh yes. Believe me, you absolutely don't want to do it page by page by hand - it's a real pain, and takes forever.
  11. Noticeable even from the Balcony, I should point out I quite agree with you. One thing which has occurred to me several times during the two runs has been to wonder how Two Pigeons would work paired with Prodigal Son. Would it work, or would two such similar themes be less effective together?
  12. I agree. Watching McRae the other day, I thought he was oddly off the music - until I realised that it might actually be the music that was "off" him!
  13. Hi chloeballet96. I think I'll move this to the Doing Dance forum, where I hope it will come to the attention of more dance teachers.
  14. The Anderson book is not very Ashton-specific, so possibly shouldn't be given priority in your case? I certainly hope we'll get access to Following Fred's Steps - and the rest of the old Ballet.co site - again sooner or later. The Vaughan book is certainly a must, from what I remember - I don't think I've read it this century.
  15. I was up in the loft this afternoon when I found the bag. Is it too late to bother sending it to you now? If it isn't, do send me a PM, because I don't look in here too often.
  16. As for a general query on how to contact the administrators/moderators, you can send any of us a PM as long as you're logged in. And of course should you feel the need to report any post, you click on the "Report" button or whatever it is at the bottom of the post.
  17. After watching Thursday's Pigeons cast, I felt like saying that if the RB were going to keep fielding that cast - the Takada/Hay one - I'd happily watch 2Ps over and over. And I'd had a *really* lousy day that day, and only just made the performance. Takada to me seemed somehow more "French" than other casts I'd seen, and I was impressed not only with Hay's performance, but with his dramatic commitment to the whole thing - I think I could quite happily have focused the opera glasses on him throughout just to see how he was reacting to everything on stage. Yet, despite some great individual performances, this afternoon's matinee somehow didn't quite do it for me - perhaps it was my relative distance from the stage which didn't help, or perhaps I'm just Pigeon-ed out. I did like Beatriz Stix-Brunell's portrayal of the Girl, though.
  18. I think I saw him in their Swan Lake a couple of years ago ...
  19. Yes, but as I think I pointed out early on in the thread, they're never open when I'm in town. And ordering online presupposes that I know I'm going to want it in any given month, which is far from certain.
  20. Maybe that's the problem. I tried in Tunbridge Wells today as well, and couldn't see it there either - or, for that matter, Opera magazine.
  21. Would be nice if I could find it. The WH Smith I used to use as a source doesn't seem to be getting them now

People who use "reach out" when they really mean "approach/contact". It's so inappropriate, seems to have been happening a lot in recent months, and drives me nuts every time I hear it. You know, along the lines of "We reached out to the IAAF to see if they wanted to comment" ... No, you didn't. "Reach out" connotes a degree of empathy, sympathy, concern, giving a helping hand or the like, whereas all you wanted was to get some information you could use in your newspaper or whatever.
  23. It will be identical, as far as I know - not that I've ever seen the show twice to compare Although they may cut a bit ouf of the interval? Getting back to the speed of things, Osipova wouldn't be the first big name to struggle on that: I remember Carlos Acosta (who danced the role only in one season) for all his abilities having difficulty keeping up with the music - as he did with The Dream, too.
