  1. I gather from all the coverage on Radio 3 today that Nikolaus Harnoncourt died at the weekend. Here is just one tribute: http://slippedisc.com/2016/03/nikolaus-harnoncourt-an-exemplary-human-being/
  2. How very sad. And that reminds me ...
  3. That reminds me, were Lantratov and/or Alexandrova in the Bolshoi Spartacus which I believe is being screened (repeat) next Sunday? I can't remember.
  4. From what you've all said above, I'm rather struggling to see the links to Plisetskaya
  5. I expect it's too late now, but I'm told by someone who was there that the production very clearly wasn't designed with the upper reaches of The Grand in mind. Apparently the view from the top is very poor for Act IV. Just thought I'd warn people for future reference.
  6. I thought that was the sort of thing Wayne McGregor was doing with the RB's young choreographers: art, at least - not sure about the rest.
  7. Great. That's something I thought I'd never see again.
  8. Ooh, and I may have some broadband still by then. If I'm awake by then, of course!
  9. Did anybody go to see this? I've just realised there's a showing tonight, and would appreciate feedback, especially as to content and running length, because the cinema website is unhelpful! Edit: Okay, located that information, but feedback would still be appreciated. Thanks.
  10. Oh, really? Anyway, the offer's not available on East Coast, I think it said. Shame, because BRB had quite a few theatres on that line listed.
  11. You'll have to come and see someone other than Alex, then, Janet! And I notice that there's virtually nothing of interest dance-wise at the Lowry during that period, too - at least, not that I couldn't see rather nearer to home What else could I go to Manchester for? And no BRB in Brum either.
  12. I know some people here complain about the cost of travelling to London from the Manchester area, so thought I'd highlight the offers available for the next few days: https://www.virgintrains.co.uk/sale?WT.mc_id=SL_042A_6&utm_source=Bottom_CTA&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Seat_Sale_T1_1612 London - Birmingham - Manchester - Liverpool - Glasgow among others. At this rate, I could afford to make it up to a matinee at the Lowry! Bookings must be in by 3rd March, and travel is from mid-March until the beginning of May. I've no connection with Virgin, but thought the information too important not to pass on. PS: I see Yaffa's already posted this in the Birmingham train fares thread, but I thought it needed a wider audience
  13. Remember Steven McRae, in the days before he was promoted to Principal at the Royal Ballet, going home to Australia for a while (I think he was injured) and then having problems getting back into the UK? I guess situations like that may have contributed to the number of dancers applying for UK citizenship.

I have this problem too - particularly with the long thin ones. Clearly they vanish down the same wormholes in space as biros do, because I swear I keep buying them and then can never find them again when I want them - they must be ending up on a planet somewhere where they can enjoy a uniquely envelopoid lifestyle
  15. Yes, Sunday 28th February on BBC4, 7.30pm till 9pm and then followed by the Storyville presentation of the Bolshoi Babylon documentary." Reminder: this is on in 90 minutes!
  16. I see this is back at the Lyric Hammersmith again: must try and get to see it again and see if it's still as funny as I thought last time round.
  17. Thanks, Jane. I must admit that she's not a dancer that I'm familiar with - but then since she wasn't on last year's mini-trip to the Peacock that's not surprising.
  18. Don't worry - you're not the only one, and it may be your browser that's at fault. At present, this one won't let me quote people properly (hence the cobbled-together version) and on another browser I can quote but I can't format
  19. Jacqueline, if you click on the "Royal Albert Hall" tag which I've just added beneath the topic title, it will take you to several previous discussions of seating at the venue for ENB performances which may help.
  20. Seems really rather weird having 2 Giselles effectively shoehorned into the last 2 days of the company's schedule pre-break, doesn't it? Just enough time to get going, and then they stop again.
