  1. Ah, that's different. That would be the first night of the last run, and it was indeed an unforgettable experience
  2. All apart from the Friday matinee currently showing sold out.
  3. Well, I've just caught up with my recording of this - impressively filmed (not too much chopping around, and plenty of fairly close-up shots of Batley giving a good opportunity to appreciate his dramatic talents), and good to have a permanent record of the Leebolt/Batley partnership. However, one thing does worry me: the brighter parts of the action on-screen on the back. Even filtered through a TV camera lens, they looked extremely bright. If I do book to go and see this at Sadler's Wells, am I going to have to sit there for large sections of the performance with my hands over my eyes in the hope of avoiding triggering a migraine? What's the experience of those who've seen it live?
  4. It was a matinee - Easter Monday Actually, what you're describing sounds to me like the other Bank Holiday performance, his third (I missed his second - silly me), when I said I thought he was running on fumes only by the end, and pretty much louder applause than I'd ever heard at the back of the Stalls Circle.
  5. And not finally - it's just been announced as a Proms venue this summer!
  6. Hello, Nicola. We don't allow the opening of multiple threads on the same topic, so I've merged your two, while managing to retain your most recent title.
  7. So do I (based on the first run). I'd been going to ask: something official I saw recently claimed that the running time was 2 1/2 hours, but my cast sheets from last time around say it's a bit under 3 hours. I assume it's still the latter?
  8. Encore screenings all over the place, mainly next Sunday afternoon - presumably not last Sunday because it would have clashed with the Bolshoi.
  9. We did have some offers marked in the Special ticket offers section ...
  10. There is: there's MicroporeTM and there's microporous tape. In my experience, the former sticks to the feet and the latter doesn't, especially the very cheapo one that I've currently got in the bathroom cabinet. Wow, this is getting really off-topic, isn't it?!
  11. Probably because it's elevated, I'd guess. It *is* a very nice view, just a bit distant Glad to see the Bolshoi casting has been posted just about in time for booking, but wish the RB had been able to do the same for The Invitation.
  12. How terrible: I've got Alexandrova and Lantratov for Don Q Thanks for posting that, SBF - I'd say you've made my day, but there are 3 months to go, so I'll wait and see what actually transpires nearer the time.
  13. No, annamicro, I do realise that other things have been made public, but I meant "we" on this forum who for the most part probably don't read Romanian and are hampered in our understanding of one side's remarks by some highly dodgy Google "Translations". And I take your point about faulty memories, too, which I think I interpreted correctly - history can leave its mark for a very long time
  14. Firstly, many thanks to Scheherezade for her very detailed post on clapping and its history/reasons. However, since we already have a separate thread on clapping, I've moved it to there: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/11397-clapping/?hl=clapping Other posts may be moved later if any of the Mods have time to spare.
  15. And apparently Andy Murray has incorporated ballet in his training regime somehow. I've been saying for years that tennis players ought to do it.
  16. Or more likely(?) the next Ed Watson - your second sentence seems to describe his situation, pretty much, I think.
  17. I think the implication was that they needed a new one for the Old Stage. My guess was that the other production, which had presumably been designed for the other theatre, may have been too small for the Old Stage. Or something of that ilk ... My main problem with the costumes was that Kitri (and Basilio)'s Act I costumes didn't really differentiate them enough from the other dancers - I now understand why traditionally she's had a red-all-over dress, because dressed in "peasant" gear, albeit predominantly red still, she doesn't look that different. And as someone else has pointed out, Basilio's legs tended to merge into the black parts of the scenery in Act III - something which could easily be changed by making the scenery a different colour, I should think. Of course, it may look different in the theatre.
  18. Odd - I thought all the Picturehouse chain showed the Bolshoi ones, and the RB, for that matter?
  19. Welcome, Dave, and good luck with this. I feel I ought to point out, though, that if you read the copyright notices on various DVDs you may find there are restrictions on the circumstances under which you can show DVDs to a group of people - although there are obviously ways of doing it otherwise local film clubs wouldn't exist!
  20. DtD, you might also like to have a look at this thread: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/11666-ruthless-is-ok/ Being of an older generation, I don't necessarily automatically have "abuse!" warning bells going off when I hear of or see smacking, but it's clear that it is, at the very least, ill-advised in a teaching context these days. Yet you say the student was laughing? It can sometimes be difficult to know what is real and what is done in jest, just as it can be, for example, when boys fight - are they serious, or just mucking around? I know I had a tendency to take things at face value, and try to make allowances for it. I'd certainly bear in mind that this has happened, and keep alert for any other indications.
  21. For a moment, I thought this was something to do with "our" John Ross, the dance photographer!
