  2. Incidentally, if you've ever wondered exactly *what* the Young Man is painting, there's a photo among the rehearsal photographs on the ROH website which gives the game away . It may only be available via the digital programme, though.
  3. Welcome from me too, Plie22. I must admit, when I read your thread title I did for a moment wonder whether this was for a very specific minority interest, and thought "My goodness, that would be really difficult to do", but clearly I misunderstood . We do have some adult male dancers on this forum, as well as some people in your area, so I hope between them they'll be able to give you some advice. There used to be a few males in my adult ballet classes in central London, but of course that's no use to you. If you'd like to edit the title of your post, just drop one of the Moderators a line

  5. Talking about insouciance, you've reminded me that last night was the first time I'd seen the "shrug" done properly. I don't know whether it was my viewing angle at previous performances, but it looked like the dancer simply raising his right arm relatively high in salutation. I wasn't surprised to see Osipova having difficulty with the speed - it's very much underestimated how much you have to squeeze into a very small time. Hayward and Choe have already had a run to get used to the ballet - it must be difficult for someone having her 2nd and 3rd-ever performances in the ballet filmed. I was very glad to see that there was little attempt to applaud the second pigeon arriving at the end, so the ballet was allowed to finish more or less as it should be. It's rather like Spectre de la Rose, where if the Spectre's leap out of the window is applauded it rather ruins the rest of the ballet. Nobody else has brought the subject up, but I keep spotting links to Scenes de Ballet in Rhapsody. Am I the only one?
  6. That reminds me: it occurred to me to wonder whether they were as originally choreographed, or whether he'd embellished them? (The incredibly complex ones he makes an entrance with)
  7. My appreciation of this evening was perhaps a little muted due to the failing of the heating system in the cinema (no apology from the management, let alone any offer of a possible refund) and the minor hell of South London's transport links falling apart at the seams again (I've been to dance-related events maybe half-a-dozen or so times this month, and for 3 of those the transport has been disastrous), but it was an enjoyable evening. Once again, the lighting looked distinctly on the dark side, though - I don't remember cinema broadcasts always being this way? However, those of us who did go to the cinema broadcast did get to see a lot of Laura Morera's dancing as the Gypsy - presumably this was filmed back in the autumn?
  8. No, as I said, they put them on late once the wheelchair places have been sorted.
  9. I think it's only about 3 years since we last had it, Sim! But yes, the current rep is very short on Classical works.
  10. They're behind the wheelchair spaces, so I guess the ROH only release them once they've decided that no more wheelchair users are going to want to sit there. I've noticed these patterns before, but have never known why. Group bookings? Held back for someone relatively important who has just decided they don't want them? Ticketmaster allocation?
  11. Probably the loose bar-type stools in row C? Sounds about right, price-wise.
  12. This sounds very promising, Lisa - unless perhaps it sounds *too* promising? Not that I want to put you off, but with the considerable number of boxes he's ticking I'd want to make sure that his knowledge of everything you've listed is more than surface-deep. There *are* con-artists - and worse - out there who will claim to like everything you like in an attempt to get your interest. I'd actually be more keen to see that he disagrees with you on a few things. Be careful not to let your guard down completely yet.
  13. It seemed to me - and I'm paraphrasing from my rather cruder immediate reaction, as this is a family forum - that much of the message was that a woman can be brought to heel by a night of good sex. Not a great advance on the original for feminism, in my book.
  14. Well, well. I shall be interested to see what Bruce Wall in particular has to say about what Maillot has done to Taming of the Shrew. The ballet was very dark (and rather monochrome), which meant you couldn't always see the dancers clearly against the dark sets. If you saw Maillot's Romeo & Juliet I don't think you'll be surprised at this production. Very fast - slightly dizzying camerawork - and to my mind a bit short to cover all the subject-matter. More when I get home, probably.
  15. Yes. My impression from when I originally saw the Kirov production was that Gulnare was more of a soubrette while Medora was the more classically-based role. Yet in this production we have Medora being all flirty, and I was a bit surprised to see that. I don't think Tamara Rojo carries that side of things off so well, as I imagine I've said before.
  16. Is it only R&J and Giselle for the whole tour, do you know?
  17. And I seem to remember someone commenting that it was benefitting the supporting roles in Romeo & Juliet earlier this season.
  18. Well, all I can say is that I hope Kaneko doesn't read that before the performance. Nothing like piling on additional pressure before a live relay, especially for a dancer who is still relatively inexperienced.
  19. Not that I've anything against Kaneko, indeed, I liked her gypsy very much, but I'm just sorry we won't be able to see Morera's again.
  20. You could, of course, be talking to "anyone" with any of them. Who's to say the picture is genuinely of the person you're talking to?
