  1. There is a Gold medal at Prix de Lausanne, but that medal is only given very rarely. Diana Vishneva and Tetsuya Kumakawa are some of the very rare recipients.
  2. Ruzimatov danced Conrad in Le Corsaire. I saw the performance today and although there were very few leaps in the choreography (this is Ruzimatov's own version), he could still dance very well. Especially his pirouettes a la seconde were brilliant and beautiful, also we was great in partnering Irina Perren in the bedroom pas de deux. What was surprising was that at his third curtain call, he performed that pirouettes a la seconde which made the audience go wild. Irina Perren was radiant, crystal clear technique with bravura and she was also a good actress. And Viktor Lebedev as Ali was a sensation, so light and airy jumps, soft landings and classicism, long limbs, everyone would love him and certainly will be a big star in the near future. Overall performance was enjoyable and I could see the company is in a positive mode.
  3. Casey Herd is a principal at Dutch National Ballet, and partner of Nadia Yanowsky (Zenaida's sister) http://www.operaballet.nl/en/node/2246
  4. Unfortunately I could not attend Masha Alexandrova's Don Quixote, I have heard such things from my friends who were there. Here is a picture in a tweet by the promoter Japan Arts https://twitter.com/ja_ballet/status/541132845301776384 I did see Masha in La Bayadere alongside Zakharova and Lantratov, and she was superb there, her Italian fouettes were solid and beautiful, and fouettes too. And I was very much impressed by her portrayal of the Gamzatti character, she is a princess with much dignity who is purely and deeply in love with Solor and had no intention to harm Nikiya, her acting was quite touching. I attended 1 Swan Lake, 2 La Bayadere and I Don Quixote this time, and I was much sure that the Bolshoi quality is very high as it has been, especially the Kingdom of the Shades was just breathtaking with 4 lamps very steep, 32 shades with very high arabesques, so ethereal. There were much changes in the cast but the tour was very successful.
  5. I think their tweet says that it will be broadcast on November 8th and then the Defile will be available online. Meanwhile, the archive is online (without the defile) for six months but currently it is still geo-blocked. https://twitter.com/Culturebox/status/518529618538950656
  6. One other pair was Xiao Nan Yu and McGee Maddox, and the other was Jillian Vanstone and I could not recognize her partner. So Katherine please tell us.

  10. Kristina Shapran is already set to appear in Mariinsky's London tour, Apollo/ A Midsummer Night's Dream. http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/apollo-a-midsummer-nights-dream-by-various
  11. In the Company of Stars, Gerald Uferas, many beautiful photos on stage and back stage of Paris Opera Ballet The Ballet Book, American Ballet Theatre. This book is about 10 years old and captures the stars of ABT when there were so many brilliant stars there. Gorgeous photos by Nancy Ellison. Also very good reading on the life of a dancer.
  12. Vadim Muntagirov guested once in National Ballet of Japan's Giselle with Daria and though unfortunately I could not see, their partnership was reported sensational. This time he is dancing with the company's ballerina, and he is a "Guest Principal for the season". I am much looking forward to see him. Daria Klimentova will be guest teacher for NBJ next season.
  13. Vadim Muntagirov will be guesting in National Ballet of Japan's new Sleeping Beauty (by Wayne Eagling) in early November so that might be a reason he doesn't appear much in Symphonic Variations. He will also be guesting in NBJ's La Bayadere and Swan Lake
  14. Here's the cast for Don Quixote http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/don-quixote-by-carlos-acosta Fingers crossed for Fumi!
  15. The stage door for MET is downstairs close to the box office of the opera house. Quite a number of people are waiting and it's underground so no worry of getting wet when it is raining.
  16. It seems official, Thiago Bordin will be joining NDT. https://view.publitas.com/nederlands-dans-theater/ndt-seizoen-14-15/page/12-13
  17. I heard Thiago Bordin is going to another company but I am not sure I can write it here. He is not ending his career.
  18. So the page 94 of the brochure must be referring that two names of current principals are gone?
  19. Leanne Cope has tweeted that she will be taking a sabbatical for a year. https://twitter.com/cope_leanne/status/458709340396875776
  20. News footage of Nikolai Tsiskaridze performing widow Simone's solo in La Fille Mal Gardee http://www.vesti.ru/only_video.html?vid=588234
  21. I don't think it will clash with the Sleeping Beauty schedule, but Roberta Marquez will be guesting in Tetsuya Kumakawa's K-Ballet Company's Romeo and Juliet, she is scheduled to dance in Japan from June 11th to July 5th. http://www.k-ballet.co.jp/performances/2014romeoandjuliet
  22. A latest clip of Lunkina in Swan Lake at the National Ballet of Canada. She was just amazing in it.
