  1. I know Sergei Polunin has danced Crown Prince Rudolph at Stanistavsky but did he play the role at Royal Ballet? (when RB brought Mayerling to Japan he was one of the Hungarian officers)
  2. Alexandrova has announced that she will continue performing. https://t.co/YZHNQ2PTbG "I left the Bolshoi but not the profession. I look forward to open the whole world for myself"
  3. I don't think Jurgita Dronina has given enough opportunities that she deserves at NBoC (that prefers senior dancers past 40) so it would be better for her at ENB which has much more performances/ better repertoire/better leader/much better audience but it would be unlikely given her life in Canada (as Bruce explains)
  4. Here is a trailer of National Ballet of Canada's Giselle featuring Jurgita Dronina. It is not from a performance but still lovely. I have not seen her Giselle yet but saw her as Hermione in Wheeldon's The Winter's Tale and she was absolutely wonderful.
  5. Well everyone is entitled to their own tastes! Zakharova's classical expression tend to go to the mannerism direction and although her technique and physique is stunning and suited for classical ballet, I can understand she might not be everyone's cup of tea. Also her expression and acting is not the same level as her technique. But she is a superb classicist. I do like her dancing contemporary choreography, I think these years she prefers to dance modern stuff in galas, and in some works she is very good with her other-worldly hyper extention, I liked her especially in Nacho Duato's Cor Perdut and Krzysztof Pastor's Tristan and Isolde, Motoko Hirayama's Revelation. But of course everyone has their own opinion and is free to express it.
  6. I did see Anna Karenina as part of Mariinsky Japan tour a few years ago, and unfortunately this work is not so good. But this work would possibly have Lopatkina and Vishneva as leads. (as well as Kondaurova)
  7. A documentary film on three generations of Cuban ballerinas, "Horizontes" is currently in cinemas in Tokyo. This film offers some rare footage of Alonso coaching her dancers "Giselle" , "Coppelia" and is quite intriguing. There are also some glimpses of education at the National Ballet of Cuba School and also Viengsay Valdes is featured. http://horizontes-film.ch/en/
  8. This is just a rumor and it is confirmed that she is not dead. https://www.facebook.com/alejandrocondis/posts/1148263901948242:0 https://www.cibercuba.com/noticias/2016-12-03-u146802-desmienten-rumores-fallecimiento-prima-ballerina-absoluta-alicia-alonso

  10. Dance Tours is a company run by Justin Meissner (former RB soloist and Laura Morera's husband) They run ballet workshops and have organised some galas with RB dancers in Japan. I have been to their galas here and they were really wonderful.

  16. There are different opinions regarding choreography and I like the Patrice Bart Nutcracker DVD (Saidakova, Malakhov, Staatsballett Berlin)

  18. Yes Lobuhin was at the gala in Japan and partnered Zakharova. (I attended that gala) Also, Skvortsov was only in Don Quixote because he was also guesting in a Japanese company which was a world premiere and had to be in Tokyo early for rehearsals. (his partner was Svetlana Lunkina)
  19. Thank you Duck. This documentary will be theatrically released in Japan this fall so I will look forward for it.
  20. Not related to the content but the font is too small to read for my aging eye, Duck. Can you modify so that the letters will be larger?
