  1. I think the reason is so. The promoter is doing The World Ballet Festival this summer, and the two dancers are likely to be participating there. Cojocaru is also guesting for Hamburg Ballet's Japan tour in February (Lady of the Camellias)
  2. Birmingham Royal Ballet's Japan tour has been announced to subscribers. (not online yet) Peter Wright's Sleeping Beauty May 18th/20th Alina Cojocaru (guest from ENB)), Mathias Dingman May 19th Delia Matthews, Brandon Laurence La Fille mal gardee May 25th/27th Momoko Hirata, Mathias Heymann (guest from POB) May 26th Celine Gittens, Tyrone Singleton Tokyo Bunka Kaikan not sure if there are performances outside Tokyo yet.
  3. I saw this triple bill at in Japan in September and at least I can say this is not a vanity project, although opinions would be subject to the viewers choice. The three programs each has a unique taste, all modern choreography. Possokhov's Francesca da Rimini has a dramatic story and the music (from the opera of the same title) many might remind it is the same music used in Cranko's Onegin. A little campy but enjoyable piece. de Bana's Rain Before it Falls is a purely abstract one, and Strokes Through the Tail shows the comedy side of Zakharova. And as Shade mentions, the dancers from Bolshoi are fabulous. Mikhail Lobuhin, Denis Rodkin, Denis Savin, and also there are several female dancers from Bolshoi including Ana Turazashvili in Francesca da Rimini.
  4. I recognized that name of his project and that was a lovely statement by him I think. His documentary "Dancer" has been received here very well, becoming a box office success and that was a happy thing for me because I did contribute a little program note for the brochure of the theatrical release of the film in Japan. Anyway, people should not criticize you just because you are a fan and showed you passion on this forum, this is how we write our thoughts towards dance and dancers.
  5. Well it was me, not Lilian88 that posted a video of a Japanese department store, and saying so is a bit insulting (or racist comment) for the Japanese market as well as to Lilian88. (as I am Japanese) , although I am not a fan club member. Please pay respect for other forum members although we value different opinions.
  6. All I know about the festival in 2018 is that it will be held August 2018 and nothing more yet. I will post here the details once it will become official.
  7. In the 2017/2018 season Matthew Golding is a guest artist at the Bayerisches Staatsballett. https://www.staatsoper.de/en/biographies/detail-page/golding-matthew.html https://www.staatsoper.de/en/staatsballett/ensemble.html
  8. Unfortunately some fans have already paid for this strange tour which his agent has confirmed hoax. The promoter's bank account was suspended but they still claim they will negotiate with Sergei and his agent (which is doubtful)
  9. Meanwhile, Sergei Polunin is all over the news in Japan because some promoter has set up what seems to be a hoax tour of him and his agent denying that he signed any contract for this. The promoter apparently has not finalized any concrete plans https://www.buzzfeed.com/jp/harunayamazaki/sergei-polunin http://news.tbs.co.jp/newseye/tbs_newseye3144864.html (news footage, not sure if this is viewable overseas) This performance is very weird, consisting only of his performance of Take me to Church and a few more solos, venue not suited for dance and with talk and handshake session at a high price. Website looking very amateur, and the promoter urging ticket buyers to pay the money by bank transfer as soon as possible, thus looking like a scam case.
  10. Anastasia listed on Amazon uk https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenneth-Macmillans-Anastasia-Tchaikovsky-Marianela/dp/B0748288W9/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenneth-Macmillans-Anastasia-Tchaikovsky-Marianela/dp/B0748QYH8Z/
  11. Nicolas Le Riche might have 6 feet but I don't think Benjamin Pech and Jeremie Belingard have that height. And Mathias Heyman not so tall too.
  12. A photo book of Sergei Polunin, mainly consisted of his Project Polunin stage shots (photography by Herbie Yamaguchi) will be published in Japan.(The documentary "Dancer" will be theatrically released on July 15th in Japan)" http://www.uplink.co.jp/dancer/#book Also Polunin is part of a campaign of a Japanese retailer/entertainment company and this footage was filmed during his performance of "Take Me to Church" in Tokyo this April.
  13. According to Japanese press, Koya Okawa wins Gold medal, Midori Terada wins Bronze medal for senior division, Mark Chino wins Gold medal for Junior division. https://mainichi.jp/articles/20170620/k00/00e/040/144000c
  14. Thank you, that is so kind of you. Not fully and I have lost my voice but anyway I was happy that i could see the spectacular performance of Flames of Paris. Krysanova was just incredible with so much character and flawless technique.
  15. Fabulous Basque dance from Bolshoi Ballet's Flames of Paris on Wednesday (Krysanova, Lantratov, Savin) I was at this performance and this was so wonderful. The 3 leads were even greater than the filmed performance, so much bravura. Ratamansky's Flames of Paris is a great production and the bitter ending tells us many lessons especially in this era of terrorism. I was to attend 5 performances of Bolshoi Japan tour, but I got sick with pneumonia and was hospitalized and could only see two. The other one i could manage to see was Swan Lake with Smirnova, Chudin with Tvirko as the Evil Genius and it was a very beautiful performance, the company looked very well and Smirnova was a tragic stunning Odette. However, after the intermission and at the Black Swan act, the prince was replaced by Lantratov. (he did a very good job, given that it was his first time to partner Smirnova in Swan Lake, he didn't seem to have time to wear stage makeup) After the performance it was announced that Chudin got sick. But Chudin withdrew from all the remaining performances (Flames of Paris and also Swan Lake in Osaka) and Rodkin who had already been back in Moscow flew to Japan to replace Chudin.
  16. Alina Cojocaru has withdrawn from English National Ballet's tour to Japan due to pregnancy. http://www.nbs.or.jp/blog/news/contents/topmenu/2017-3.html (Japanese) Jurgita Dronina replaces her in Coppelia on July 8th, Maria Kochetkova replaces her in Le Corsaire on July 17th. And also Alina tweeted this.
  17. But in Russian ballet companies, female principal dancers are referred as "Ballerina". Female dancers who are not principals are called simply by their ranks such as "First Soloist". Mariinsky Theatre https://www.mariinsky.ru/company/ballet/soloists Bolshoi Ballet http://www.bolshoi.ru/persons/ballet/all/ Stanistavsky Theatre (they do call them Prima Ballerina) https://www.stanmus.ru/people/3 Mikhailovsky Theatre http://www.mikhailovsky.ru/theatre/company/ballet_company/ So "Ballerina" itself is a special way of rank in Russia.
  18. I don't think that is possible, it is in the middle of ABT's Met season, he has been carefully returning to performance and no experience of Marguerite and Armand yet.
  19. Not in Japan when we have World Ballet Festival in August every 3 years, and usually stars perform here for the summer vacation. This year we have Manuel Legris's Gala in the end of August where he dances with Isabelle Guerin, and Marianela Nunez, Vadim Muntagirov, Olga Smirnova and Semyon Chudin participates with dancers from Vienna State Ballet. Also we have a gala by Japan's Star Dancers Ballet, with guests Miyako Yoshida dancing a Bintley piece with Federico Bonneli, and from POB Hannah O'Neil with Hugo Marchand.
  20. RDB'sGiselle is now gone but their Romeo and Juliet (Neumeier) is back online with the same leads as Giselle. https://www.dr.dk/tv/se/romeo-og-julie-ballet-fra-det-kgl-teater/-/romeo-og-julie-ballet-fra-det-kgl-teater#!/00:02
  21. Last time when I saw the Fokine program at the Mariinsky, it was Les Sylphides, Spectre la Rose, Dying Swan and Scheherazade. And for seat preferences, the stalls are very flat and not raked at all at the historic theatre so I would not recommend stalls especially if you are not tall. (Russians are very tall as a whole. I would recommend stall boxes, boxes 5,6, 18,19 or dress circle 9,10, 13,14 Mariinsky 2 is raked very well and every seat in the theatre has a good view and the acoustics are excellent. it is a very good theatre. Mariinsky has 2 versions of Nutcrackers, but this time it is the Vainonen traditional one which is okay. But if it is your first time at St Peterstburg, maybe the Fokine one might be better because the atmosphere of the theatre is magical.
  22. Ivan Putrov was guesting at Asami Maki Ballet's The Three Musketeers last weekend in Tokyo. http://spice.eplus.jp/articles/109181 Also his production is co-producing Svetlana Zakharova's performance Amore https://londoncoliseum.org/whats-on/amore-svetlana-zakharova/ " Presented in association with Ivan Putrov Productions"
  23. Paris Opera Ballet is currently on tour in Japan, and Lacotte's La Sylphide only for 27000 yen (about 270 USD). This is very expensive for a relatively short program.
  24. Thank you! I saw the documentary Dancer and there were some footage of him as Rudolf so I was wondering about that.
