  1. This blu-ray is distributed by Shinshokan, which is a publisher that publishes Shinshokan Dance Magazine, so it is not available on Amazon Japan (I don't know why but they usually don't deal with Shinshokan DVDs) and this online store does not ship overseas. https://www.fairynet.co.jp/SHOP/4560219325555.html It will be in stores in May here, and maybe at that point there will be other retailers that will ship overseas, I will look out for that. (Probably HMV Books here deals with Shinsokan DVDs so I think it will be distributed there and that store does ship overseas https://www.hmv.co.jp/en/ )

  3. Not YouTube but La Scala's Nureyev Sleeping Beauty with Polina Semionova and Timofej Andrijashenko https://www.raiplay.it/video/2020/03/La-bella-addormentata-2f2b817f-bb7e-4c34-95c7-b1777a4a7d24.html
  4. A tweet by Alastair Macaulay. Some of the dancers (and a staff) were ill at Stuttgart.
  5. I love the Isabelle Guerin workout videos at home washing dishes, ironing clothes.
  6. A production of Vagner' s Gotterdammerung was cancelled (a series of Ring Cycle) at Biwako Hall, which was a major new production. They decided to stream live the 2 performances without audience, and 12 thousand spectators watched it. On the same day, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra streamed their concert and this time 100 thousand spectators watched it. Japanese companies have not streamed live performances so it was a groundbreaking event but of course it is a huge loss financially. The Biwako Gotterdammerung was recorded and a DVD is expected to be released. Some more concerts will be streamed without audience but not any ballet/dance companies yet.
  7. In Japan almost everyone wear masks, but it is impossible to purchase masks as they are out of stock, they form long queues in the morning in front of drug stores before they open in effort to buy them. I wonder how everyone manages to get one. During the recent Paris Opera Ballet tour, the promoter were giving away masks to members of the audience if they don't wear one. it was one of the very few performances that were held in Japan in March. The windows were open at the lobby to bring in fresh air, hand sanitizers were placed everywhere and thermography were placed at the entrance to measure the visitors' temperature.
  8. Stuttgart State Theatre is not canceling performances but spectators can cancel performances up to April 19th free of charge. https://www.staatstheater-stuttgart.de/corona So it is the same with this.
  9. Also the Vienna State Opera is closed and performances canceled as they forbid any assemblies with more than 100 participants. https://orf.at/stories/3157262/ https://www.wiener-staatsoper.at/die-staatsoper/aktuelles/detail/news/coronavirus-sars-cov-2/
  10. National Ballet of Japan (New National Theatre Tokyo) has cancelled two remaining performances of Manon due to Coronavirus outbreak, as well as the National Ballet Academy performances and opera performances. Luckily I could see a phenomenal performance with Vadim Muntagirov as guest sith Yui Yonezawa before the theatre closed down . https://www.nntt.jac.go.jp/english/news/all/notice-performances-from-february-28-to-march-15-cancelled.html
  11. Hirano and Sarah Lamb will perform in Michael Pink's Dracula this summer at NBA Ballet too.
  12. This program is now available on demand so I hope you all can see and enjoy. Available until March 31, 2020 https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/ondemand/video/3016062/?fbclid=IwAR1va-3M_8KsRlOIi38EqgrC8IId6QWgWG5hKitvxleubv_YLLq04rkhLzc Also the whole farewell performance was broadcasted here in Japan. She was incredible given that she was 54 at her retirement, and it was so touching to see her with Irek Mukhamedov and Federico Bonneli. Yes and her new season will open with Sir Peter Wright's Swan Lake. Here is the whole program of her season at National Ballet of Japan. https://www.nntt.jac.go.jp/english/news/ballet/202021-season-ballet-dance.html
  13. The calendar says there is a guest company but not announced yet. https://www.hamburgballett.de/en/schedule/index.php#2021-06-25 https://www.hamburgballett.de/en/schedule/event.php?AuffNr=172910
  14. You mean Scholz's Beethoven 7th? Yes this one is very beautiful and uplifting, a masterpiece. (Also Kylian's Forgotten Land is beautiful)
  15. Currently it is announced Segei Polunin will dance Armand in Tokyo and Biwako (Ohtsu) . btw I will be interviewing him on Friday (unfortunately in Japanese though but will go online)
  16. Hamburg Ballet's tour in Macau (Nijinsky) is cancelled due to the corona virus concern by the venue. http://www.ccm.gov.mo/Event.aspx/Detail/10858
  17. Here is the cast change announcement in Japanese, as I could not find the English announcement. https://www.nbs.or.jp/publish/news/2020/02/-2020-3.html Cojocaru is dancing a pas de deux from Manon Act 1 with Vogel, and Yasmine Naghdi (who happened to be in Tokyo because there was a gala by 10 RB dancers) will dance Ballet Imperial. Also Somova will not come so they invited Madoka Sugai of Hamburg Ballet and Elisa Badenes of Stuttgart Ballet to fill in. Sergei Polunin will only be dancing in Marguerite and Armand on Saturday and Sunday.
  18. Thank you for the review maryrosesatonapin, POB will be bringing this Giselle on their tour to Japan at the end of the month. I hope this situation will be solved and the dancers could keep their rights in the pension system. Hannah O'Neill is half New Zealand and half Japanese. There are several Asian dancers at POB currently, including the fabulous Sae Eun Park.
  19. https://victorhochhauser.co.uk/page/repertoires.php Principal Dancers include Elena Lobsanova Heather Ogden Jillian Vanstone Guillaume Côté Naoya Ebe Harrison James Brendan Saye (Subject to alteration) No words.
  20. A very disappointing cast. IMHO. Especially after Royal Ballet also performing Sleeping Beauty with far better dancers. Jillian Vanstone and Francesco Gabriele Frola would be my choice (they are very good) , avoid the other casts.
  21. Reece Clarke is not participating in the gala curated by Hikaru Kobayashi http://www.royal-ballet-stars.jp/cast.html
  22. Some very beautiful photos of this production on photographer Natalia Voronova's Instagram https://www.instagram.com/talia_ballet/
  23. Recently a book was published to commemorate the retirement of Miyako Yoshida (I contributed a little bit on translating tribute messages from Sir Peter Wright and Kevin O'Hare and more from her colleagues at RB) and inside the book, 4 pages on the back of the cover featured numerous (36 to be correct) curtain call pics of Yoshida taken by Dave Morgan, and this was such a lovely feature. I am sure Yoshida loved them.
