  1. Angela, I understand, you know much better about things in Germany as I am in Japan.
  2. I am not in favor of a dislike button but today i thought I was insulted at another thread... I wish people would respect other people's views even when they disagree with their opinions.
  3. Isabelle Ciaravola's farewell is February 28th so not next month. (it was previously scheduled on March 5th but moved to 28th) I wished I could see her farewell performance, it should be so emotional. I also watched the performance of Onegin with Isabelle Ciaravola and guest Evan McKie on February 4th and 8th. Herve Moreau had an injury so he had to be replaced for the first two performances but good that now he is back. The performance I saw was also so magnificent, I saw Isabelle's Tatiana when she was promoted etoile 2009 but she has matured so much since then, very sweet and adolescent at first and really lost into her emotions at the last pas de deux, torn between her two loves. And Evan McKie is the best current Onegin in the world, embodying the spirit of Pushkin. A little review of that performance by me here. http://bachtrack.com/review-feb-2014-paris-opera-ballet-onegin
  4. The Firebird was danced by Anastasia Kolegova and the Dying Swan Maria Semenyacenko (Bolshoi) You can watch the closing ceremony here http://www.gorin.jp/highlight/20140223.html (if there is not a geo-block) which is an official site of Japanese broadcasters. The ballet scene is 6th movie on the right column.
  5. The National Ballet of Japan will be performing Troy Game next season, first Japanese company to do it.
  6. Is there any source of those dancers leaving ENB? if there isn't, I don't think it is appropriate to mention about it here. Or I just have not realized about some official information of that...
  7. Hello Janet, I am not sure this is released in UK yet, but the dates for the guests (Ayako Ono and Yudai Fukuoka of National Ballet of Japan) performing at BRB are already announced in Japan February 27th 19:30 & March 1st 19:30 at Hippodrome. And Prince of the Pagodas will be back in Japan this June.
  8. I watched the premiere of Bintley's Prince of the Pagodas at National Ballet of Japan in 2011. It is a lovely piece, a great gift to the Japanese audience as much of the story had paid homage to Japan, and drawing the resurrection of a nation badly hurt, thus referring to the 3.11 earthquake in Japan (which Bintley himself experienced) The artwork by Rae Smith was brilliant, and also the choreography was much fun and entertaining. I am so happy that this work will also be performed at BRB, and the two dancers Ayako Ono and Yudai Fukuoka from Japan will be guesting. Here are some clips of Prince of The Pagodas, rehearsal footage, Bintley's interview and presentation of the artwork. http://www.atre.jp/11pagodas/movie/index.html
  9. Yes, they did in Tokyo. But my friends who saw the performance said Vogel was too tall for Alina, so not a good match and not much of a chemistry. Vogel has guested in ENB before with Alicia Amatriain of Stuttgart Ballet in Romeo and Juliet. And he has danced Manon with Daria Klimentova.
  10. And he hasn't mentioned a word about the many up and coming Japanese dancers Yuhui Choe, Fumi Kaneko, Akane Takada and Ryoichi Hirano who were all dancing leading roles recently...
  11. Good news on Dancing Times http://www.dancing-times.co.uk/news/item/1384-maryinsky_ballet_london_2014
  12. My access was blocked from yesterday, they asked me to subscribe to their site. I had not accessed much to the Arts Desk this month, maybe for the first time when I was blocked. I tried to access from a twitter link.
  13. I am a bit frustrated that there aren't much reviews coming out for this performance. No critics watching the show? Or they just haven't written it yet?
  14. Elisa Badenes is also a RBS graduate, she was in Prix de Lausanne and got a scholarship for that. Glad you enjoyed nottsballetlover!
  15. Those post cards were gone in a few seconds when Stuttgart Ballet toured in Japan, only the ladies post cards were left!
  16. I wonder how the people in this thread will react to Marie Agnes Gillot's "Sous Apparence" at Paris Opera Ballet, with women in bare chests and tied up in ropes, and men wearing pointe shoes. http://www.lefigaro.fr/culture/2012/10/29/03004-20121029ARTFIG00480-quand-marie-agnes-gillot-se-joue-des-apparences.php Though this was not a successful work. I don't think it is an exploitation of women concerning them dancing with their naked breasts, European audience are used to those things. Bella Figura is such a beautiful work and it has to be nude.
  17. In the Made in Germany program performed in Stuttgart, they did feature a piece called Symph by a female choreographer, Katarzyna Kozielska who is also a demi-soloist in the company. Bridget Breiner, former principal with the company has been nominated for this year's Faust Prize for her choreography so they do have female choreographers. Wished they could show one in London.
  18. Ian, Oh my...I can't see why this should be age restricted.
  19. The casts for both Made in Germany and Taming of the Shrew are fabulous. Very much envy the London audience. Great works by Cranko such as Initials R.B.M.E.and Homage a Bolshoi, along with the latest innovative pieces.
  20. You can see the program of the gala here. (PDF) http://www.het-ballet.nl/media/library/2013/09/Gala_PB_web.pdf
  21. For instance, Sue Jin Kang is awarded the title of Kammertänzerin, (chamber dancer) which enables her to work in a longer term than others at the company. (There's also the title of Kammersänger for opera singers) I have a friend in the opera company and she said that as there were many cases that the renewal of contract was terminated at 13 or 14 years, the management were criticized for that and as a result the renewal termination began to happen earlier, such as 10 years. Not sure it is same with the ballet company but likely the same thing happening.
  22. I can't understand why Royal Ballet had to invite a ballerina who has no experience of MacMillan Juliet and have their coaching resources spent on a guest dancer. It is ridiculous.
  23. I will too. He was a very good Onegin and very popular in Japan. Think the London audience can see him in one of his signature roles, Petruccio in Taming of the Shrew as he is the best in this.
