cavycapers
So. Following talk on another thread, would people be interested if I arranged some badges like this? Obviously, it would say 'Balletco' and not dance! http://www.lapelpinbadges.co.uk/school/11.jpg Or a round one http://www.lapelpinbadges.co.uk/school/circular/6.jpg (25mm) There are a chice 0f colours, navy, pink, yellow, red, green and this turquoise. The reason for a simple enamel design is so that the chaps could wear it too. The price would be about £2. Who would be interested?
Fiz
I would be. It would also be a good way to publicise the site.

Indigo
Me too. I'm assuming that the BalletcoForum badge would be set up on one of those specialist badge websites. So that any individual could then purchase it directly from that website who would deal with the payment & postage angle which would be so much simpler. I think these specialist badge sites charge per badge so that they cover their costs etc. But if the BalletcoForum committee wished to, I gather it's possible to also set it up so that funds could be raised to keep BalletcoForum running by charging a small amount for the badge above the website's base charge. Just a thought. As I wrote on the 'Thank you BalletcoForum' thread, I think this is such a good idea & is such an easy, flexible way for forum members who wish to, to be able to identify each other & get chatting. Plus you don't have to be wearing a badge yourself - just spot someone who is! I hope it takes off. SPD444
Well, feeling very pleased I mentioned it. Obviously I am up for it. If the forum gets involved then whilst a premium could be added to the price but then someone would be responsible for posting, banking and queries if one went missing or faulty. Simple badge is all we need as Cavycapers suggests, this is not a fashion statement.

VickyPage
Sounds fantastic to me! I go to the ballet by myself, so I would love to be able to spot people by their badges and have a chat.
cavycapers
I don't think any companies will do individual badges to your design or wording, but if 25 people say they would like one, I would be happy to order 25 and send them out, as I only work part time now. I guess people would send a cheque to me for badge and postage. This is the website: http://www.lapelpinbadges.co.uk/school.html What do people think about a bar badge, or a round badge? What colour? What wording? The round badge is 25mm, the bar badge 40mm.

Sim
Hello! This idea now seems to really be rolling along. However, I just want to let you know that the moderators have decided not to get involved with this one as it would entail more time and work for each of us. Any purchases or other arrangements will therefore be out of the remit of the BalletcoForum Committee and will be undertaken at the purchaser's risk; we will not be responsible for any aspect of ordering, designing or paying for any items. The Trust Deed written as the Forum was set up prevents our entering into a permanent trading activity. We do hope you understand our position. I look forward to meeting more of you when the badges are being worn! Best wishes, Simonetta Dixon (Sim) Chair BalletcoForum Committee

Indigo
It's extremely kind of cavycapers to offer to deal with all the badge administration - thank you. I'm just concerned it may be a lot of work. Plus forum members may not be keen to reveal personal information, including home or work delivery addresses in order to get their badge. I mentioned websites that would allow you to create badges & also have an online shop to sell those badges (or buttons as the websites call them). Both these websites seem to do this: http://www.cafepress.co.uk/make/custom-buttons - they will just provide ones to you from your design, but also you can set up a shop there at no cost and put your designs in it, seems to be the same process in the one below … https://www.spreadshirt.co.uk/ - in the designer if you have to choose a product pick Accessories and then within that Buttons Both seem to be based in the US & accept payment by card, Paypal etc. I know nothing more about them & have never used them myself, so am unsure of costs. I also have no links to either of them! Another option would be to use a UK based website which allows you to create & buy individual badges, such as Zazzle or the one cavycapers suggests. But each forum member could use a posted link to order them direct from that website & would create their own knowing exactly what design / colour / wording to use. (Don't mind what badge shape or colour!) Edited to add that it looks like Zazzle do the shop element too: http://www.zazzle.co.uk/sell/designers Edited April 21, 2016 by Indigo
Aruna S
I doubt that the badges will be ready in time, so if anyone is going to Tannhäuser at the ROH next month and would like to say hello, would you let me know please?
cavycapers
I will try to find a company in the UK where they can be ordered individually. My thought behind the enamel badges was that they would look smarter with smart clothes at places like the ROH than an ordinary button badge!
Fiz
I agree with you, Cavycapers. I think the whole idea is wonderful and we can use it in the provinces too since I know of two other Ballet Co-ers who attend ballet performances in this area. Maybe we can use it for live link shows too.

I know what you mean about the enamel badges. Thanks again for all your work on this, cavycapers. Maybe this design wouldn't pass the unisex test, but this ordinary round badge is customisable & may have more of an ROH smartness about it! http://www.zazzle.co.uk/customised_dark_elegance_6_cm_round_badge-145623427304153423 Otherwise, maybe the customisable square badges may have a smarter aura than ordinary round ones? Timmie
I’ve been following this idea with interest and I’d certainly like a badge (as a shy Southerner it would be a good conversation starter). So I’m in. (Happy to help out with anything if help is needed).
Indigo
I had no idea there were so many thousands of badge designs online!!! What about this 2 inch square badge at £2.45, available to buy individually? With the wording easily changed to BalletcoForum (or whatever's decided). The gold background colour can be changed too: http://www.zazzle.co.uk/d2_elegant_gold_damask_diamond_bridesmaid_button-145406791454095873
John Mallinson
Seems to me that enamelled badges look smarter. They don't necessarily need to say anything and anyway, unless the badge is quite big, any text would be illegible from more than a short distance away. Could be plain. Maybe something as simple as this? Difficult to judge how nice that might look without buying one.
Indigo
I think John Mallinson's suggestion could be a good, simple solution. I was talking about badges last night with Mr Indigo (he's an unexpected mine of information on badge sites - I hadn't a clue) & he said the same - does the badge need to say anything. Could members just wear a plain badge, or even agree on a colour & shape of badge (round or square etc), then choose their own style. Although wording does give reassurance that you're definitely approaching a BalletcoForum member, I think it unlikely that non-members would just happen to be wearing a badge like the design John suggested - I can't recall seeing any at the ROH or other theatre venues. One thing that occurs to me is the minimum size the badge needs to be so that it can be easily spotted, especially for those who have problems with their eyesight. Would 19mm be ok?
Don Q Fan
I like the idea of a small round badge/pin - we could just have BCoF on it or just a plain colour that we in the know know what it is! Avoiding green as that is NSPCC. I would have suggested ballet slipper pink but not sure the gents would like that?! But count me in anyway, great idea!

Fiz
I like round too. Does anyone else think pastel shades might be too pale to show up well? If we ever get them made I think I will pin it on my ballet bag as I'm always telling my dance friends about this forum.

LinMM
Hee hee red with BcoF on .....could be interpreted as danger....back off ...( or worse!) I mean we know what it stands for but others may be a bit wary!!! Only joking it's a good idea but am useless at any sort of design so haven't got manyinteresting ideas I'm afraid.
Indigo
Round and red! Liking this This is a very simple option & we could try it out to see how it goes. (If we find wording is needed, we can deal with the complexities of designing, creating & distributing an enamel badge with wording in the long term.) So there's this round & red plain enamel one on the website John flagged up: http://www.badgesplus.co.uk/red_enamelled-button-badge-round-badge_202.htm which shows as £3.90 including UK p&p when I put it in the basket. (19mm with safety brooch fitting) Or this round & red plain enamel one on Amazon for £1.99 including UK p&p: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Circle-Enamelled-20-5mm-Round-School/dp/B015J2T9Q4 (20.5mm with a butterfly type back) Gives a bit of choice on the round & red theme & either of these (or similar) would be very easy for members to order & start meeting
cavycapers
I rather like the star! And blue is the balletcoforum colour. http://www.badgesplus.co.uk/blue_small-star-star-badge_315.htm
cavycapers
These also look quite cool, if someone wants wording on. If we got them in same colour, some could have plain ones, from John or Indigo's shops, and some worded. It seems to me they can be bought singly. I shall send message to company to confirm. Also, not sure when specify colour if is all one col or has a band, or what col text. Will ask them and let you know. https://www.madebycooper.co.uk/shop/personalised/circle-bar
Timmie
I rather like the star! And blue is the balletcoforum colour. The blue star is nice... This is a very simple option & we could try it out to see how it goes. (If we find wording is needed, we can deal with the complexities of designing, creating & distributing an enamel badge with wording in the long term.) Or this round & red plain enamel one on Amazon for £1.99 including UK p&p: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Circle-Enamelled-20-5mm-Round-School/dp/B015J2T9Q4 (20.5mm with a butterfly type back) Gives a bit of choice on the round & red theme & either of these (or similar) would be very easy for members to order & start meeting I agree, I think a simple option to get things going and then a worded option over time. If I had to choose I'd go round and blue, enamelled. But I am also happy to go with the flow (which looks like round and red). The Amazon ordering option also looks easy as I guess most of us have Amazon accounts.
