  1. Thanks for all this. Think I may phone before we send the form and get some advice. Useful to hear all this, it looks such a lovely place.
  2. Does anyone know how flexible Ballet West are about audition dates? We will be travelling from Hampshire and would need to fit round various unmissable commitments if a date came for this term and would require travel time. Another application gave a choice of dates which is really helpful! Thanks
  3. Is this unexpected? Would seem like terrible timing for you with needing to do photos and get help with the forms. Hope you can sort something soon.

    Music advice!

Hi listened to this and we all loved it! All suggestions appreciated - this is top of the list I think. DD also plays the cello which also seemed to make her love it, and a piece we've not heard of so hopefully sufficiently obscure!

    Music advice!

Type of music doesn't matter, the main things are to find some strong contrast and not to be well known! DD doesn't have much idea!
  6. My DD needs to choreograph a dance of just 2 - 3 mins involving some strong contrast. We have little idea where to start, and anything we find is too well known, too associated with a ballet.. Any suggestions where to start? Thanks
  7. My Dd who was aged 16 and not at vocational school participated in NYB this Summer. We're 3 1st auditions in London and one in Birmingham, and then a second/ casting audition in London later. Summer school was good as a mix of dance styles, and seemed a bit like being at vocational school. Main parts went to vocational school students, she had minor roles in a couple of dances. Can be lots of waiting around, her room- mate, also non vocational was only in one, at least DD was in the main ballet. Both were small for their age which may have helped them get in. It would be fairly late in the day to get in at most summer schools if you weren't successful at second audition. Lovely costumes, and great to perform at Sadler's Wells,
  8. Does anyone know when the application form to apply for Rambert for next year will be available? Have an appointment to do DD's photos this week and can still only find last year's. Not sure whether to assume they'll be the same ones. Wanting to get the forms off then. Does anyone know also, if DD auditioned for Ballet West this year, in the unlikely event she were offered a place if they might considering deferring the place? Thanks
  9. What group are you, and good luck.
  10. Thinking of DD perhaps doing a couple of auditions for next year for upper schools. How soon do people think applications should be submitted? On Rambert website form appears to be for last year, so do we wait for a newer version to appear? Advice much appreciated, thanks.
  11. Hi my DD does some. Probably best to contact All England Dance and see if there is any advice for private entrants. Depending where you live would be good to watch some festivals to see what happens before starting. Would give an idea of level, costume style etc as there are rules to be aware of. You would need to know what length music is required for that age group etc. Also probably best to check the local teacher would be happy with all this in case there is a reason she doesn't do them!
  12. Is this for dance that you might play an instrument. What sort of level do they expect for that? Do they play it as part of the course then?
  13. Just wondering, how do you go about getting a private teacher of that calibre!

    Advice

Hi Haggis yes it is her! She has a place in Group 6 at Tring CBA so that achieves a few hours of good level ballet 6 times a term, and is embarking on associates with the London Studio Centre in mixed dance for 5 hours on a Saturday. Thinking we have to pick up as much as possible of this nature to give her the best chance, and will look for ad hoc opportunities eg summer schools. Dr Dance, would it be possible for you to check your inbox. I would really value being able to PM you? Thanks.

    Advice

dr dance, I tried to message but couldn't get through, something about you not receiving any more. Not sure what that means!
  16. Tring are lovely, and once you get a place they don't remove anyone. At annual assessment you move up or repeat a year. The studios are really good and with room for parents to wait.

    Advice

Is there anywhere or anyone who will provide neutral advice to dance parents? We will be aiming for our DD to audition for vocational school in two years, and our not sure whether our local dance school offers all the best preparation. It is quite small so she only gets 3 - 4 hours a week there, whereas I am concerned that others get a lot more. The focus is very much on festivals and medal winners, whereas I would prefer a few more exams and more pointe work etc. just wondered if I could check this out anywhere as obviously the next 2 years are crucial and a time when we will need lots of help and advice! Thanks

    ISTD Exams

Just wondered what the longest is that anyone has awaited results. We are still awaiting some from before Easter! Does that infer a problem somewhere. Notice in 2013 ISTD said 21 days!

    Advice for NYB

Been very impressed, received a phone call from Nichola Packham wanting to sort out the best sleeping arrangements for DD. Was very touched by her concern to find the best arrangement. Also able to ask one or two other question which was useful.

    Advice for NYB

Sounds good. DD is currently in group 5 at CBA also so as you say a small world! Thought it would be a lovely performance opportunity for her.

    Advice for NYB

Hi Tinydancer. Thanks was thinking I might do that. She is 16 and just finished school. Should be in as all room then? Did residential at Elmhurst last year, but shared with a fellow CBA associate which worked really well.
  23. Just wondered if anyone can help? Am going through paperwork for NYB and a couple of questions have arisen? For one dance we are asked to supply 'Paris pinks'! We have no idea what these are. Shoes? These are accompanied by 'pink stretch and hold tights'. At least other dance is bare feet! Also wondered if anyone can advise about room requests. DD doesn't know anyone so is it best to ignore, or wondering about asking to be placed with other first timers. She is not particularly confident socially so all this is a big step for her and want to make it as good as possible.
  24. London Studio Centre to an associate scheme covering jazz, contemporary and musical theatre as well as ballet which goes through to 18. DD starting this next year, and will be year 12.
