  1. Any ideas how many they normally have on a production? Might give some idea of chances.
  2. Was anyone else at final audition today? DD tells me their performing Cinderella. Find it all a bit confusing as asked to take character, tap and pointe shoes but none use apparently! Not sure when to expect to hear. Hope it's not too long as I'll want to book another summer school if she's unsuccessful.
  3. Our teacher is forwarding applications around 20th March. Closing date is 31st March.
  4. My Dd has qualified some solos, and two group dances to take part at the Fareham sem-final in the May half term. Just wondered if anyone know how far in advance they produce the timetable? Am asking as my work are pressurising me to decide which days I need off to go and support! Have tried to say am likely to know for a while! Thanks.
  5. Yes we find that. DD sometimes has quite a run without placings or being qualified, and then sometimes has a better time. Adjudicators certainly vary in their tastes.
  6. Will be there for the Senior B section and DD also there for Senior A. (Can't make that as working today!)
  7. If you want to check out Tilehurst festival at all I could give a rough idea what's on when as DD's dance school are taking part. It ends on Saturday 21st with the group sections. Definitely echo what's been said about adjudicators. You do see quite an array of dances.
  8. Good news today that DD is through to casting on 15th March in class A. Not sure what her chances are then against regulars and vocational school pupils, but encouraging to see. Has anyone else heard anything about results?
  9. Must be a mixed experience then? The mum I chatted to during the prelim audition had a daughter at Tring who had done NYB for 10 years. She was in the same class 3 audition of 8 with my daughter auditioning for the first time. They told me some frinends, I thought in the same position, we're going to one of the other prelim auditions. Will have to wait and see!
  10. Yes sure, the adjudicator did say she had been to a recent meeting at All England about 'saving' lyrical dance! Should be: inspiring, free flowing, dancing from the heart. Should not include: lots of angst, lots of floor work, if you go down should be to go straight up, stopping and starting. DD's dance which was correct to her was set to 'What a wonderful world', a much happier song than most of what we'e ever seen! Most of what we see which are pretty depressing. Hope this helps. Was news to us as normally the other sort get placed!
  11. Yes I am minded to go even if just for interest and experience. Very helpful to hear some experiences there.
  12. DD has an audition next Monday. Just deciding whether it's still worth the time and money to go as feel she 's totally unlikely to be good enough to get a place, and that we would struggle to afford it anyway. Was going largely for the experience, but have already been to one at Elmhurst. Interested for any opinions particularly about the NBS audition experience. Just don't want to mess people around either as May want to audition at 18. Thanks.
  13. DD was quite happy with the audition, but don't think we will hear anything until after the other first auditions. People seemed surprised that there were only 8 candidates in class 3, which she felt was about advanced 1/2 level. Ages seemed to be about 16+.
  14. Had a strange experience at Woking festival last week. Took DD to try and qualify her Lyrical dance. Came up against mostly the normal girls with sad songs and dramatic dance. Afterwards the adjudicator declared that virtually none of the dances were lyrical, and went on to say that she was trying to save Lyrical and defined at length what it should and shouldn't be! She then awards high marks for first and second, and then begrudgingly puts the girl who usually wins 3rd! Worked well for DD as her teacher obviously knows the rules and she qualified in second. There were a lot of shocked murmurings in the room as normally the other dances are the successful ones.
  15. Just wondered if anyone is auditioning tomorrow? My DD is at 1 - 2.15. Not much idea what to expect of the audition!

    Exam practice

Finally heard today that she passed with merit, although don't yet know mark. She is just relieved to have passed. I feel that just a year after Intermediate and with the lack of coaching she should feel proud of herself. Can take her time over Advanced 2. Thanks for all the good wishes.
  17. Really pleased to hear that. That's wonderful news considering everything. We haven't heard yet, must surely be out if you have yours from same session? On tender hooks now! If we don't here before DD wil see teacher Thurs and Fri so will get her to ask!
  18. Hope DD enjoys Tring. My daughter in her second year there, really enjoys it. If you do want to audition for NYB most students miss one week per term at Tring.
  19. Will see how it goes and whether DD is good enough to be selected. Will certainly let you know when we have an audition time, initial audition is just meant to take an hour so depending on time we may be able to go on to Tring. How old is your DD Southerndancemum? Mine is 16, year 11. Xx
  20. Wow that's brilliant. Congratulations to your dd.
  21. Thought it would be a change for Dd as we are going on holiday early in the Summer so plenty of time for all this. Also hasn't been in a performance for some time. No idea how competitive it is to get in but going to give it a go. Sounds like some good names have involvement.
  22. Thanks that was helpful. Any ideas of the odds of a 16 year old girl getting a place? Would the residential part be ok if she doesn't know anyone there?
  23. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere on the forum or the website and I have not found it! Thinking about summer schools and as unusually we are not away in August this year, wondered about NYB. I can find information about the audition dates but not the summer. My understanding is the summer involves about 10 days residential at Tring, wondering about the fees and dates as DD will be awaiting GCSE results. Any pointers to this information would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  24. Really sorry to hear that Spanner. Hope your DD can still get a good mark as she is such a lovely dancer. Hope it can still be good news for all the candidates.
  25. Yes it is a relief that the exam is over. Really felt for Pups_mum and DD when they hadn't arrived when the girls were called from the changing room. Put our worries about lack of teaching sessions into perspective. DD came out reasonably positive, which after weeks of her getting mad at everyone who told her she wouldn't fail was wonderful. Seemed to be quite a few stressed students around which was sad.No need to do more ballet exams for a couple of years. Phew! Pictures - hope you have a good outcome.
