  1. Yes DDs secondary school were into EBAC so really narrow options,Chen everything a creative child like her wanted to do all in one column. We had a huge dilemma between Music and Art! In the end she did music, purely as she believed it to be less time consuming than Art. Such a shame!
  2. DD is doing AS dance, and intends to take A2 next year. If this isn't digressing, any opinions on how A level dance is regarded when applying for academic courses would be appreciated. If DD doesn't get in for dance college, wondering how she will fare with this as one of her 3 A levels. DD didn't have the opportunity to take GCSE so sadly can't comment on the gap between the two, I think she has found learning to do choreography the hardest part but don't know if doing GCSE would have helped with this!
  3. Afraid not, we're North Hampshire which makes it logistically difficult. DD took part in Alice in Wonderland, also auditioned previously but pulled out. Would love her to do again, but very difficult with the distance, last time a friend took part so we aimed to share, but then that didn't always work as DD tend to be required to stay later. Yes looks like it is Midsummer Nights Dream. Wish they had a Hampshire version!
  4. From memory I don't think SYB was too expensive, less than English Youth Ballet and National Youth Ballet. Perhaps contact them through the website.
  5. My DD who is non vocational has auditions for SYB twice and LCB once. She had no success with LCB whereas both times was offered really nice parts with SYB, and performed with them the second time. The standard is lower, but then it was lovely that she had a good part in the ballet, they also did a few small different styles which was fun. The people involved were lovely and DD really enjoyed it. I got the impression all those who auditioned probably got some parts, the main parts went to some who were pulled out to do extra. All took place the London end of Surrey.
  6. I'm afraid she is already at sixth form college, crow terms in,Chris is my concern to be ready for dance college auditions for 18. We are not dance experts, so not sure how I could find an impartial person and get her to listen. I fully agree she needs the maturity of the higher vocational grades. The timetable is biased at the upper end towards one year 13 who is not going to dance college who gets her own class in advanced 2 modern while the advanced 1s get nothing tailored at them. The teacher is very partisan so favourites get wonderful service, the rest get endless broken promises. The main focus of the school is increasingly becoming festivals, teacher has qualified as an adjudicator, cand private lessons are reserved for favourites to win lots of festivals. We did change dance schools before, possibly a mistake, which has made DD totally anti ever stepping foot in any other dance school. I am hoping to get her to do the LSC Summer school as that's the sort of college she wants to go to.
  7. Am having a very frustrating time with DD at present, who does say she wants to go on to dance college at 18, probably somewhere like LSC. Her small local dance school with which I have been frustrated for some time, is just driving me to despair. DD is very headstrong, and although the teacher treats her increasingly as the lowest of the low, refuses to entertain get input from anywhere else. She is year 12, where I believe students are usually working towards Advanced 1/2? In both Tap and Modern this is not happening for various reasons. A class at least exists for vocational ballet, but is regularly cancelled. The prime focus of the teacher is festivals, and as DD is not a bursary winner she seems to matter less and less. DD did ond dance college audition this year, and teacher couldn't even be bothered to advise. Tearing my hair as I feel this unwarranted loyalty to teacher will cost her the chance of dance college. Today we only suggested she picked up 2 extra classes at a local dance school where she has friends and she said this was disloyal and blew a fuse! I just can't bear to see her waist her talent with this misguided loyalty! I know she wouldn't leave, so just thought this could be a compromise. I know people say for auditions its not your grades but how you perform on the day, but surely if DD has not been gained beyond Intermediate, and others have Advancd 2, their technique and performance skills will necessarily be better? I am so afraid she will have regrets later through this.
  8. Is anyone considering any of the LSC Summer weeks? Suddenly has become of interest to DD but not sure if a possibility without accomodation.. I'm working so can't stay,X anyone know if there are places she might be safe to stay on her own. She knows the area as does LSC associates which would help.
  9. Does anyone know the reputation of the dance course at Chichester uni? Also wondering about the merits of a joint honours degree of dance with an academic subject? Thanks.
  10. How many to LSC admit into the first year for the dance degree?
  11. Interested to hear that, DD will be applying in that context next year. Wonder what the success rate is for their associates?
  12. It always happens, made me remember your Advanced 1 ballet exam hassles!
  13. DD is going to an audition at the end of half term. Bit worried how she'll cope with the interview section, Any ideas of the sort of questions to expect, at least so she doesn't embarrass herself! Thanks.
  14. Would value opinions on the best dance degree courses anywhere in the country. Coming into thinking about where to apply with DD! Thanks.
  15. I would be interested in hearing more about this too. What's it called? Have a non vocational 17 year old. Thanks, Lilac.
  16. DD took part with the upper age group last year. In that category the majority were at vocational school, so not surprisingly tended to have the major roles and the higher number of dances. DD does associates. After the final audition if you get a casting letter it will be worth seeing how much they're offered. Quite a lot to commit to if only one dance as was the case with one non vocational student, at the same time the summer school part is challenging and enjoyable DD found.
  17. Don't know anything about Urdang associates. My DD who is just 17 does associates at London Studio Centre which include ballet, contemporary, jazz and musical theatre on a weekly basis. I think you can start at 14, don't think the auditions for next autumn have taken place yet. They seem to get very good teachers in, some who also do NYB, teach on their regular courses and with West End Experience. It's quite a new scheme, they're very keen to keep developing it.
  18. Wishing your DD good luck. DD does associates there on Saturdays and the staff are lovely. What day is the audition?
  19. My DD now 17 did last year. A couple of differences from EYB, parents don't watch the audition and you don't find the result straight away. For both the first and second auditions the result came by post. With the result of the second, if successful you find out what dances they're in. We became expert where to kill time near the RAD HQ as there's not always space to wait there! Good luck.
  20. Thanks ballet life that's good to know. She did NYB last year and found nearly everyone was at vocational school so,felt a bit behind. Luckily she had a room mate who wasn't so they teamed up! Can I ask, how much do you do that isn't ballet there? Thanks
  21. If my DD who is 17 and not at vocational school, do people think she would fit in comfortably to the senior group with graduates and vocational school students? It's good to be challenged but don't want her feeling completely out of her depth. Do they have groups within the broad categories? Thanks.
  22. If she has would be very interested. Thanks.
  23. Pastel, have you sold or is it still available? Thanks
  24. We always found Miss Lewis very helpful. She gave us extra time to commit as the rehearsal venue changed which made it more difficult to accommodate. DD nearly dropped out which would have made a space. EYb were always efficient to deal with and everyone is visible in the performances.
  25. Any ideas how the groups/levels are organised? DD will be auditioning for vocational school, coo need something challenging in the Summer. Also do people fit in if they go on their own, DD always worries a bit about that? Thanks
