  1. Internal assessment results have been released yet. My DD is a Prep 3 waiting to hear whether she has a place in Pre-Seniors or not. After Prep 3 they either move up, repeat the year, as DD has been doing, or leave. Last chance this time. We are hoping to hear by Easter week-end.
  2. They all seem to be at this time. We booked our family holiday early in the Summer partly to fit round A level results for older daughter, and then could hardly find any with dates DD could do. She will now be back from Italy Saturday and off to summer school next day, but big relief to be sorted!
  3. Sorry bad phrasing. Our application was a bit later going in as when I saw post on here and realised it was a summer school that DD could do date wise, she was on a school trip in France so had to wait for her return to do photos! She was thrilled when I told her. She I soften a no or waiting list Swanprincess so do keep trying. Others we were going to try were Central, Bird or laine Theatre Arts who do accomadation and a dance orientated course. Now we are just fingers crossed for Pre Seniors at Central for next years associates. Going to an audition at The place next week as a possible alternative.
  4. Only sent form last Thursday after a no for ENB and DD in France, and received a Yes today. Can't wait to tell DD.
  5. Just wondering if anyone else has a DD in prep 3 at central ballet. DD missed the last week of term due to being abroad on a school trip. Just wondered if anything more definite was said about when the assessment results would be released. We are very anxious to know, as are lining up other associate auditions in case she hasn't made it to pre- seniors, but don't want to waste time and money on these if they are not needed, especially as one involves a whole day of school. Staff seemed quite vague about when results would be released when she was last there. Am pretty sure she will want to continue there if she is successful. It will be up or out this year, as she has already repeated. Prep 3 once. Thanks
  6. Will give it a try then. Not many Summer schools we can do date wise as away from 20th July to 2nd August when most seem to take place.
  7. Presume it's extremely competitive to get a place. Any ideas if non vocational students have a chance. Just thinking whether to try after no from ENB.
  8. Is 24th for the discount, or for all applications do you know?
  9. How old is your DC. Wonder if not hearing means no then?
  10. Anjuli_Bai, some of your points did make me think. I have loved ballet since a child, and wasn't allowed to do it, so do have an awareness that I am very keen for DD to pursue dance for as long as possible. Not sure how I will react when/if she wants to reduce her commitment. Older daughter was never as keen, and gave up a couple of years ago
  11. Glad to know others haven't heard. I thought we were expecting to hear by the 14th but no news here. Any ideas how competitive it is to get a place. Not many summer schools my DD can fit in date wise - don't want to find others are full while waiting for this. Our photos weren't brilliant either!
  12. I did ask DD casually whether she would rather take dance less seriously and do less, as suggested. She told me that she don't want to do any less, and although it meant hard work and watching less TV than her school mates, she loved being at festivals, associate classes etc. Was encouraged to hear this.
  13. I recently read Wildflower hill by Kimberley freeman, which is based on a character at the end of her ballet career! and thoroughly enjoyed. Loved the ballet components!
  14. Thanks for all this. It's so hard when you want to help, but don't know how to. She is year 10 having turned 15 in January, so all dance scenarios are getting tougher. Almost feel we need some sort of confidence for dancers sort of sessions, as teachers generally don't have time to cover this. One that really struck me lately was her local teacher who has her in Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 ballet, and said she had never seen anyone learn fouettes(?) so quickly and how some of her students had really struggled with them, yet DD looked embarrassed to do them so well first time! She is also a typical moody teenager, so doesn't like to listen to much advice from mum!
  15. Sorry this is quite personal, but is an issue that rears it's head quite a lot! My DD often let's herself down by struggling with confidence and self belief. Recently this hampered her in festivals, and she's had to undergo an assessment for her associates. She and I had a dialogue with both the associate teacher and her local teacher! who both felt that she is talented but in danger of underachieving because of this problem. It's so frustrating when she has talent and technique. I wonder how much further she can go in dance without conquering this, but am at a loss what to do. Just wondered if anyone else's DC has had such a problem and if so how you dealt with it. I just don't want her to look back with regrets.
  16. Going back to the ENB summer school. Note you need to send photos with the application. Just wondered how competitive it is to get a place? DD is 15 and taken Intermediate. Are they likely to be oversubscribed, so need a back-up option?
  17. We had a terrible journey ba k from London yesterday after lesson at CDB due to fallen trees! Train extremely crowded and took 2 hours to get to Basingstoke!
  18. My DD did 3 days at London Studio centre last year and that wasn't too expensive. We can commute to London from home and DD took herself one day. Was a mixture of dance genres and musical theatre.
  19. Any opinions about the ENB course. My daughter is just 15 and has recently passed Intermediate with distinction, and now working at Advanced 1.
  20. Hi I did wonder that, but she went went even more antagonistic when I mentioned residential! Sure it would be even worse that the friends would all share! Not sure whether I could mention it again,
  21. Last year I managed to encourage my Year 10 DD to attend an Easter school at central ballet! and a Summer school at London Centre for 3 days. As far as I knew all went well? I have just begun to broach such activities for thiis year, to have her hit the roof! She belongs to a very small dance school, so I feel she really needs the broadening experiences that these offers. She tells me that these are attended by groups of friends, and because she doesn't have anyone to go with, ends up doing everything on her own. Obviously I don't want her to be unhappy, but also feel very strongly about her limiting her horizons, when she wants to pursue dance. Ended up with her storming off, and me feeling awful. Any suggestions? (I think she must be referring to the LSC course, as she attends central associates, so I knew some others at that.)
  22. Hi wonderful to hear how inspiring ballet has been to your daughter's recovery and life. If she wants to do more ballet, depending on where you live she might be able to audition for associate classes. These are non syllabus classes helping to develop the abler more enthusiastic students. If you were wanting to apply for next September, now would be a good time to sort out applications. I know about the South east where junior associates with the Royal ballet and the London junior ballet would be examples. These two have websites. Obviously you would want your local teacher's support, and probably signature. The other thing I would say is that most girls who learn ballet also learn other forms of dance such as modern! tap! contemporary and the more forms you learn the more varied opportunities such as pantomime performances. As well as associate classes, you can find performance opportunities such as London Children's Ballet and English Youth ballet which she may enjoy. They too have websites. Hope this gives you some ideas. My DD is 14 so I have experienced many of these!

    Easter courses

Meant Dd's school. Don't finish until 9th April so rules out ones like Tring. Has anyone experienced Dance Forward, looks interesting?
