  1. Proballetdancers post seems to be so overly concerned for muddledmumas daughter's mental health yet the joke is, in the same post she totally mocks muddledmumas own mental health...except I'm not laughing because there is no joke mocking anyone's mental health 😡
  2. Annaliesey and Muddled mum May I ask what happened to the teacher giving out the abuse at the 'smacking school'. I hope that you both reported her so that others don't have to suffer the same mental and physical trauma.
  3. My dd has very wide feet and toes as you describe. Her ankles are very narrow though. Her first point shoes were from Bloch and had a gathered elasticated back as all other shoes gaped at the back ( a right pain to sew ribbons on) . Not sure which Bloch type they were though. She doesn't have very high arches so not sure if they will be suitable but were the only type in the shop that stayed on her ankles. She has Gaynor Mindens now and loves them. We got them from Dancia international in Druary Lane, they were great, didn't pressure sell us and took loads of time checking they fitted well with lots of different types.
  4. Happymum, I think that's correct what you are saying. Depressing isn't it. Looks like my dd won't be going to any of the private dance schools, the Ines that seem to carry the reputations into jobs as most of these from what I can see are 13k plus a year and if she'll only be eligible for 6k and not the usual 9k student loan then there is no way I can top up the rest of the fees ???? Feel like telling her to give up now!
  5. Thank you, I'm a bit new to all this student finance/ funding etc and it's all very confusing so I'll keep looking into it all. Thank you for your help
  6. Please can someone point me in the right direction on school's that use the usual student finance route to pay for dance/musical theatre courses please.
  7. I've just been looking at schools for when my dd is 18 and it has come to my attention that a lot of the top schools like Arts Ed, Bird, Laine etc do not allow ucas loans like all the unis do so how are the children of middle income families supposed to fund these school that they so desperately want to go to? I have no disposable income yet don't quite qualify for a DADA? Any tips or do I just say sorry dd you were born into a poor, but not not quite poor enough family so you can't go! Seems so unfair that dreams are broken because of finance not talent. Please feel free to correct me if there are full funding scholarships into the above named schools and others that go on talent not income!
  8. When I say parental choice of going en pointe I mean if a teacher recommends going on early, then as a parent I would say no ( not before 12 is my parental choice) even if they thought they were strong enough. I don't mean the parents choose when to get pointe shoes! I hope you understand what I mean now.
  9. You misunderstand my wording which seems to be a common practice on this forum of people straight away jumping to their own conclusions. My dd is already on pointe, Her teacher didn't come to the shop with her so the choice of shoe was chosen by my dd with help from the expert shop fitters on what she felt fitted best. Plus final choice was 'parental choice' as I decided on how much I could/ couldn't afford! Same as I decided 12 was the earliest age I as going to accept letting her go on pointe. She is my daughter and I have the final say over her welfare and what is purchased within my budget. (parental choice and responsibility)
  10. My dd has a pair of Gaynors, she has had no problems with them. I'm pretty sure that a hell of a lot of research went into the creation of these shoes before they came to the ballet market so I highly doubt they are as bad as what Some members are saying. I say each to their own a bit like when you should start pointe. I personally wouldn't let my dd start before twelve but there are a lot of girls that started way earlier, but again that's parental choice. You should do what feels right for you/ dd. My dd has had her Gaynors over a year but she doesn't do much pointe work and they look fab still and she loves them.
  11. In my defence, I tried phone, email and Facebook before posting on here as a last point of contact... Good luck with the Bristol associates David
  12. Yes, I did rant on a public forum, however, please put yourself in my position initially. Last month it was cancelled, this month Dd turns up only to find place locked up and building staff told that you'd cancelled permanently. No email to tell me and answer phone on your mobile. Having heard of another company on the news recently where parents had paid and lost money, the knowledgeable ballet friends on here was my second point of inquiry! Yes, it is true that you have apologised and offered my dd classes for free in London but sadly it will cost us too much to go so have decided against your kind offer. I do hope that you are able to establish associates in Bristol which we would love to still attend. You have to see this from us parents perspective, it is expensive and hard enough as it is to pay for dance so when we think we will never see you or our money again what are we going to think!! Fortunately, this isn't the case and I thank you for the apology and scholarship offer.
  13. It's just not happening in Bristol and I wasn't informed today when my dd turned up which is why I was cross, But I have had an apology etc and they will hopefully be coming back to Bristol when there is more interest. I think it is legit as it it is still running in other parts of the country. They have a face book page with the information, although it did still say Bristol on it earlier!
  14. Thanks taxi and Pictures. David Stinson has got back to me and explained the present situation which seems genuine!
  15. Taxi4ballet and picturesinthefirelight, have you had any dealings with the above? Pm me please.
