  1. For visiting companies I don't think that the ROH restricts seats available to Friends. I've always had the impression that they release virtually all seats at the start of Priority Booking (although they presumably hold some back for VIPs and critics) As a matter of interest, I've just checked and there are a number of stalls circle standing left for some Swan Lake performances but I couldn't see any for the other programmes.
  2. Does anybody know how the number of 'views' of a post is calculated? I posted a ticket for sale yesterday and, according to the site it has had zero 'views'. Despite this I've had an enquiry about the ticket. I think it unlikely the person enquiring is psychic! This leads me to believe that this feature of the site does not work properly.
  3. Liam Scarlett said this evening that the music for Hansel and Gretel has been composed by Dan Jones - i.e. a specially commissioned score. He was talking about the new work during the 'Big Question' event in the Clore (Are Opera and Ballet Elitist?)
  4. They were clearly enjoying themselves enormously and this communicated itself to the audience. They danced a piece called 'The Sailors' with music by Malcolm Arnold and choreography by Gloria Grigolato and Lee Robinson. When you ask me to tell you more about them, are you asking for their names? If so, here they are, as printed in the programme: Paige Bestington, Gwenllian Davies, Padua Eaton, Sayaka Nagahiro, Lucinda Strachan Drew Jackson, Brogan McKelvey, Joseph Ngwana-Aumeer, Dylan Price, Ebony Thomas I don't, at the moment, have time to give details of the other school performances (Ballet Central and ENBS). Maybe somebody else who was there could do so?
  5. The finalists are listed in an earlier thread. http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/3119-young-british-dancer-of-the-year-2013/ Results from tonight (all RBS unless otherwise indicated): 1st prize Chisato Katsura 2nd prize Isabelle Brouwers (ENBS) 3rd prize Jerome Barnes Special acknowledgement from the jury: Scott Mackenzie Commendations: Joseph Sissons and William Beagley Sibley Dowell Award for a promising student with potential: Barnaby Rook Bishop The members of the jury were: Gary Avis, Deanne Bergsma, Deirdre Eyden, Christopher Hampson, Kevin O'Hare, David Nixon, Marguerite Porter, Tamara Rojo. The Chairman of the jury was Aaron S Watkin. Elena Glurjidze was the class teacher for the preliminary rounds and semi-finals and the Finalists received coaching from Mara Galeazzi and Johan Kobborg. Edited to add that it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. This year, for the first time, there was a "special emphasis on expressiveness in the second variation selected by the contestants" (quoted from the programme) This made for a most interesting evening with a wider range of variations that we've had in the past. Maybe an administrator could merge the two threads on this competition?
  6. Tickets went on sale yesterday for this event in the Clore. This announcement: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/the-big-question-are-opera-and-ballet-elitist states that Liam Scarlett will be rehearsing Royal Ballet dancers during the evening. There is, however, no mention of this on the event details page http://www.roh.org.uk/events/43r4z Caveat emptor! As of now there are 30+ tickets still available at £10 each. Edited to fix link
  7. Here it is: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/2734-where-are-the-best-seats-for-swan-lake-in-the-round/
  8. Although most of the finalists are from the Royal Ballet School, it's worth pointing out that the organisers of the competition appear to be trying to give more prominence to candidates from other schools. The programme booklet has 7 photos of last year's finalists and 3 of these seven are from ENBS or the Central School of Ballet. Before the finalists were announced Freed of London gave "Encouragement Gifts" to 4 of the semi-finalists (RBS unless otherwise indicated): Claudia Nicholson, Fiona McGee, Saskia Gregson-Williams (Vanessa Palmer School) and Mica Bradbury.
  9. Apologies. Too late to edit my earlier post but I misread the listings. The opening night in May 2004 was danced by the Cojocaru/Kobborg cast. Rojo and Cope were scheduled to be the second cast.
  10. Yes there were two runs of Don Q. I was out of the country for the first run but caught it second time around in the summer. I remember there was a short Royal Ballet summer season in July and August 2002 with performances of Onegin, Don Q and Coppelia
  11. I've just managed to find my About The House for Period 4 of the 2003/4 season. Capybara's memory is accurate. The opening night cast was, indeed, scheduled to be Rojo, Cope, Cojocaru, Putrov, Saunders.
  12. There have been two recent interviews with Polunin. Both were in the links. One was in the Telegraph. I don't remember where the other one was. In each of these interviews he said that the Stanislavsky would be coming to the Coliseum in July and that he would be dancing in Coppelia. Here is the link to the Telegraph interview: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/9824446/Ballets-prodigal-son-interview-with-Sergei-Polunin.html Edited to add that I've just reread the Telegraph interview and it only implies that he will be dancing in Coppelia. I'm pretty sure the other interview made it seem more certain. Perhaps someone who remembers where the other interview is can confirm?
  13. alison, on 11 Feb 2013 - 17:00, said: Unless ENB's policy has changed in the recent past, standby tickets are available to all people entitled to concessions - eg Over 60s, students, Equity card holders, the disabled., ES40 holders, ....etc
  14. I've just read Giannandrea Poesio's review of the Nuñez/Soares/Zucchetti/Hinkis/Hirano Onegin. http://www.spectator.co.uk/arts/dance/8839191/from-russia-with-love-3/ (from yesterday's links) A rave review which contains a surprising and careless error. He clearly did not look properly at his castlist and seems to think that Olga was played by Christina Arestis rather than by Meaghan Grace Hinkis. Here is a quote from the review: "The rest of the cast, with a wonderfully flighty Cristina Arestis as Olga, was also good, even though the corps de ballet looked a bit lacklustre at times next to such incandescent stars. I do hope Nuñez’s and Soares’s performance will be filmed, for a record of their Onegin ought to be kept for posterity."
  15. The offer is also open for today's rehearsal and tonight's performance of Onegin. http://www.roh.org.u...l-on-19-january edited to add that there's not much time to let them know if you can't get to the rehearsal. You need to call them before midday if you want them to resell your ticket.
  16. Perhaps you didn't realise, Aileen, that the English National Ballet Orchestra is part of ENB and has nothing to do with ENO.
  17. I'm not sure if I should be posting this as it might well have been removed from the website because it's completely inaccurate. Nonetheless I suppose it gives people some idea of what to expect. (Administrators, if you feel it's inappropriate to post it, do please remove it.) Thanks to Haydn (on the Dansomanie website) who found it in the Google cache, here's the casting which appeared briefly on the Mikhailovsky website: Giselle, ou Les Wilis starring Polina Semionova and Marcelo Gomes 26 March 2013 7.30 p.m. Giselle, ou Les Wilis starring Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev 27 March 2013 7.30 p.m. Giselle, ou Les Wilis starring Polina Semionova and Marcelo Gomes 28 March 2013 7.30 p.m. Giselle, ou Les Wilis starring Olesya Novikova and Leonid Sarafanov 29 March 2013 7.30 p.m. Don Quixote starring Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev 30 March 2013 7:30 p.m. Don Quixote starring Oksana Bondareva and Denis Matvienko 31 March 2013 3 p.m. Don Quixote starring Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev 31 March 2013 7.30 p.m. Laurencia starring Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev 2 April 2013 7.30 p.m. Laurencia starring Natalia Osipova and Ivan Vasiliev 3 April 2013 7.30 p.m. Multiplicity. 18. Just heard this news on the radio. In my opinion, fantastic news for the BBC but a sad loss for the Royal Opera House.
  19. No. If you look at the casting at the top of this thread, the 'white' role is listed first, the 'leotard' role is listed second. Helen was always listed in the leotard role in the second cast. Lauren was listed in the white role in the third cast and Leanne is now listed instead. Hope that's clear now!
  20. According to the original casting (at the top of this thread), Helen Crawford was always listed for the cast we saw at the rehearsal (the second cast). Leanne was only down for the first cast but it looks like she's now replacing Lauren in the third cast.
  21. Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but I just found an article on Las Hermanas which includes video of a brief interview with Kenneth Macmillan with extracts from Las Hermanas (presumably from the performance filmed for TV in the sixties) http://www.kennethma...s-hermanas.html ICA has been gradually issuing these BBC performances on DVD. Let's hope that they are eventually able to bring out a DVD containing the ballet in its entirety. It's certainly fascinating to compare what we can see here of the filmed production to the current production at the ROH.
  22. I always go there from Tottenham Court Road Station. I think it's marginally closer - depending on how fast you walk it can be done in a little over 5 minutes. Edited to say that, if you choose to go to Tottenham Court Road Underground Station, you need to come out of the Dominion Theatre exit and just walk along New Oxford Street on the same side of the street. I don't know why the arrow on the map above seems to be on the wrong side of the street. I think this map might have the arrow in a more accurate position. http://www.streetmap...searchp=ids.srf
  23. Here it is: http://www.bbc.co.uk...dy_Tamara_Rojo/ Edit: I've just skimmed through it and found the start of the interview at around 1h 43m.
  24. I haven't seen the details listed anywhere but I've just googled to try to find the cast and one of the cinemas is showing the featured dancers as Alexandrova, Skvortsov and Tsiskaridze. I obviously have no confirmation that this cinema has the correct cast listed.
  25. A considerable improvement tonight for at least part of Act II. Her facial expressions were initially far less exaggerated and her dancing more lyrical. I didn't, however, feel that this lasted for the whole act. This impression was shared by several people I spoke to in the interval.
