  1. 3. The full results are up: http://pilot-rad.org.uk/news/genee-2013-medallists I've copied and pasted them below: "High performance standards left the judges with difficult decisions, but they eventually awarded five medals. The full list of medallists is as follows: No gold medals were awarded." Silver medallists (two female, no male) Isabelle Brouwers, 17, from English National Ballet School (German)Sasha Leong, 15, from Sydney Ballet School (Australian)Bronze medallists (one female, two male) Natasha Watson, 17, from Ballet West (British) - winner of the level 2 Genée Dance Challenge 2010.Rory Ferguson, 17, from Tanya Pearson Classical Coaching Academy (Australian)John Rhys Halliwell, 18, from English National Ballet School (British) - finalist in the RAD's Fonteyn Nureyev Young Dancers Competition 2006 and winner of the RAD's Phyllis Bedells Bursary 2011.The Audience Award, voted for by audience members on the night, went to John Rhys Halliwell. 4. Just noticed that the title and first cast for the new Dawson are on the ROH website. The Human Seasons: Bonelli Watson Underwood Trzensimiech Stepanek McRae Cowley Nuñez Mendizabal Lamb Hamilton Cuthbertson Stix-Brunell http://www.roh.org.uk/productions/the-human-seasons-by-david-dawson These dancers are only listed for the first two performances. The casting for the later performances is still TBA
  5. Maybe you weren't aware, Aileen, that ENB did take two graduates from a UK school this year. Daniele Silingardi and Joan Zamora are both 2013 RBS graduates.
  6. Am I right in thinking that First Position is about the 2010 YAGP? If so, there is a list of the top candidates here: http://www.yagp.org/eng/NY_winners_2010.php, William Bracewell was the winner in 2010. He would have been one of the dancers representing the UK.
  7. Thanks for that, toursenlair. You may not have noticed it, but the casting for Le Jeune Homme et la Mort on your website contains the following information: Set courtesy of: English National Ballet We therefore have the answer to Beryl H's question!
  8. No, Yaffa. You're right. I tend to download interesting YouTube clips to my computer so was able to check for you. The 2013 students started to come on stage about 4 beats before the 2012 students - i.e. before the beat that normally signals their entrance. I agree with you that it does very slightly diminish the impact, nevertheless it doesn't stop my goose-pimples!
  9. In theory, the ROH already has such a scheme. Here is a quote from the ROH website (the highlighting is mine): "Occasionally we are able to offer standby tickets four hours before a performance at half-price. These standby tickets are also available to those on Income Support, ES40 holders, deaf and disabled people, under-18s, Westminster ResCardholders, WC2 residents and Senior Citizens receiving Pension Credits at £12.50 for ballet and £15 for opera. Information about standby tickets is given within 24 hours of the performance. These tickets are offered at the Management’s discretion. For information about their availability, phone the Box Office on +44 (0)20 7304 4000" However, I imagine it is some time since this kind of standby has been offered as the current student standby scheme probably takes precedence.
  10. Thank you for solving the mystery, Amelia. We were misled by what must have been a non-traditional transliteration of her name.
  11. Some matinée castings have been announced but there are a number (mainly in Oxford and Bristol) which are TBC. I've been hoping that this might mean that some of the younger dancers are learning the roles and that they're waiting to see how they get on. edited for typo
  12. I’ve done a little more research and have discovered that Slawomir Woźniak has a wife called Irena who used to dance with him at the Warsaw National Opera House. Maybe Surniewa is her maiden name? Her first name could just have been misspelled in the credits. They are both on the faculty of the Master Ballet Academy in Phoenix, Arizona. On the other hand, the dancer in the South Bank Show has dark hair and according to the picture on Irena Woźniak’s biography, she has blond hair. She could,of course, have changed her hair colour. Maybe Meunier knows the dancers and can provide further information? Here are their biographies from the website of the Master Ballet Academy: http://www.masterballetacademy.com/faculty.ht,
  13. I've looked through my old videos and found a South Bank Show on Irek Mukhamedov, transmitted in January 2003. There is a segment on a Swan Lake Act IV pas de deux that Irek choreographed for Polish Ballet. However only this one pas de deux is shown (in rehearsal and in performance). If this the excerpt you're referring to, the dancers were Irina Surniewa and Slawomir Wozniak. Edited to add that, despite the name of Irina Surniewa appearing in the credits at the end of the programme, it produces no results in a google search.
  14. Here's the link to the casting: http://www.ballet.org.uk/whats-on/lecorsaire/ Edited to paste in casting as link didn't go directly to casting (I'm aware we have this elsewhere in the forum but thought it would help Ja Sm to have it here). 15. There's just one performance in the Royal Opera House Performance Data Base. However, this doesn't mean that only one performance took place. i.e. I don't think the data base contains every single performance. 16. Earlier today I told a friend I'd send her a link to the period 2 casting on the ROH website. In the past, once the Friends' magazine has been sent out, the casting has been posted on the production page for each ballet. Like Pam, I was very surprised to find that the casting was not yet there. An oversight maybe? Edited to add that, courtesy of Barton22, we do, of course, have the casting at the beginning of this thread. However I was looking for a chronological listing, with the days of the week specified.
  17. When I enquired I was told that the new scheme will be launched in early September but that this launch will be for the autumn season tickets which are already on general sale. From the winter season onwards, the students will be given a priority booking date after Friends' booking but before tickets go on sale to the general public. I don't know whether or not the students' allocation of standing places will be in addition to those currently reserved for public booking. Maybe they will come out of the allocation traditionally set aside for the public but I suppose it's possible that additional tickets will be held back for the students meaning that fewer will be available for Friends..
  18. I've pasted below an extract from a posting on the ROH website http://www.roh.org.uk/for/students "We’re delighted to announce that from the start of the new Season in September, we will be offering student members the opportunity to buy slips seats and standing places in advance of the general public. These tickets cost between £4 and £15 and are usually snapped up by members or the public as soon as they go on sale, but we have secured them for you...................... .........All student members will be emailed a booking date. You will have one week to make your selection of tickets, and there will be an entire booking period to choose from – any performance on any date! There are 20 tickets allocated to students for each show – 10 seats in the upper or lower slips (Amphitheatre level), and 10 standing places, chiefly placed at the back of the Stalls Circle............ ..........During the Autumn Season we have had to hold some seats in different areas, so you will need to explore carefully to find your tickets. However, for all performances in the Winter Season onwards, we can specify the allocation of student seats." I've checked with the ROH and, from the Winter Season onwards, 10 stalls circle standing places for every performance will be reserved for this scheme. This is, presumably, in addition to the stalls circle standing places which are currently reserved for day places. If, after one week, they're not all taken up by students, they will be released for general sale.
  19. Excerpts from a Bolshoi class which is probably the one which was streamed live earlier today on the Telegraph site: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/theatre/dance/10238290/Bolshoi-Ballet-exclusive-access-to-their-daily-class.html
  20. The post you quote refers to the evening performance. The poster just put 'Sat pm'. She didn't give an exact time but, from the context, she was referring to the 7.30pm performance. edited to fix typo
  21. Obraztsova has danced the role but she's already dancing in Emeralds tonight.
  22. News from Dance Tabs on Twitter: DanceTabs ‏@DanceTabs16m Just heard that Zakharova/Volchkov are being replaced in Diamonds tonight by Smirnova/Chudin. #Bolshoi #Jewels #ballet
  23. Thank you, Naomi. Opus Arte's publicity department really need to get their act together!
  24. Opus Arte have posted a video on YouTube advertising the new DVD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJnpntFSMY4 They list the cast for Voices of Spring as Emma Maguire and Valentino Zucchetti yet the pictured DVD features Yuhui Choe and Alex Campbell on its front cover. I hope the mistake lies with the information they have posted on YouTube. They will otherwise have made a huge error! Incidentally, the Amazon advert for this DVD states that the Thaïs pas de deux features Leanne Benjamin and not Mara Galeazzi as stated on YouTube. I suppose we will have to wait till early September to find out which is correct.
