  1. My review of 'Mayerling' is up Hope you like it. https://aliceinballetland.wordpress.com/2018/11/02/review-mayerling-royal-ballet-27-10-18/
  2. I think it's good that Marianela is being paired with someone other than Vadim as they always seem to be together! I would LOVE to see Vadim with one of the younger female principals.
  3. Very exciting for her, but gutted that she won't be dancing for a while. She'll be back soon enough though:)
  4. I've given up on the prospect of a Woolf Works DVD. Very sad, especially as I'm teaching 'Mrs Dalloway' to my Y12 students at the moment.
  5. Good news - I have managed to exchange for equally good tickets! Also decided to get a front row side amphi ticket for Naghdi/Sambe Don Q - at £19 it didn't seem terrible.
  6. I did but then the booking expired and then someone else snatched them up before I could add them to my basket again
  7. Feeling a bit frustrated as I tried to exchange my partner's tickets for better ones (he was at work but had previously told me it would be okay) and even though I was able to reference the order number, our name and address etc they wouldn't do the exchange for 'data protection reasons', so he had to phone them from work to tell them I had permission to exchange the tickets, by which time the ones I wanted had gone. I guess it's good that they take security seriously but it was a major faff!
  8. I tried to upload a photo here but it exceeded the maximum size limit- for Don Q they are selling 'view obstructed by tier ledge' balcony seats for £73, and 'view obstructed by pillar/standing places behind' stalls seats for £60....
  9. I don't think it was underpriced - I think the others on at the same time are overpriced, hence people like me choosing Les Patineurs as my winter ballet rather than Don Q!
  10. I'm so sad that the prices for R&J will be so high. I'm not even a regular as I cannot afford to be. I feel like the price rises are less about attracting a new audience and more about just wanting more revenue. They are using it as a poor justification. I am a teacher living In Oxford and I barely have enough after food, travel, rent etc. To see this special ballet from a decent seat I will have to save for months.
  11. Don Q is also much more exorbitantly priced than Les Patineurs. I got a row B orchestra stalls seat to LP for around £55, and front row amphi seats were going for around £35 - they're double that for Don Q.
  12. I've just looked at the Don Q prices - totally ludicrous, especially considering how the production isn't that great in the first place! I will be giving it a miss!
  13. I felt the opening night review of Mayerling on DanceTabs was rather harsh on Alexander Campbell: Given his lack of principal roles in the RB I don't blame him for making 'too much of his secondary role'! But that's a topic for another discussion..........
  14. I don't think it would be so disappointing if Campbell had been given his fair share of roles last time, but he was not chosen (at least originally) for Albrecht, Des Grieux, or Siegfried, and when he did step in to dance lead roles because of injury he knocked them out of the park. Mercutio is an important role in R&J but it is not the title role, it does not carry the same prestige as Romeo, and once again we are missing out on the magical Campbell/Hayward partnership. Campbell is a fairly young and new principal compared to Watson, Soares etc and to see him so lacking in opportunities compared to dancers like Reece Clarke (who is tremendous, but only at soloist level) is quite frustrating.
  15. Does anyone know anything about this? https://www.roh.org.uk/functions/roh-late From the description it sounds amazing, but the weird photo is putting me off.........
  16. If I was a dancer, I would probably be a bit disappointed to say the least if I stepped in for another dancer (especially if it ended up being a big role for me) and there was no tangible written acknowledgement of this for audience members to take away. It's true that we could just write the names on the programmes, but a lot of audience members don't even bring pens.
  17. Oh no, that's awful! I totally sympathise as a fellow dog owner...
  18. Just booked for the Corrales/Lamb/Muntagirov/Naghdi cast of the winter triple bill. Very excited, especially as I didn't get Nutcracker tickets this year. It was also a bit of a novelty to be able to pick up tickets on the 2nd row of orchestra stalls for just over £50 each!
  19. I noticed that. A shame considering the fact that I like to keep cast change slips with my programmes, rather than writing on the programme itself!
