  1. I once got one of the children’s blow up seat cushions when I was in the orchestra stalls JennyTaylor, there was a little girl directly behind me - she seemed to enjoy it and sat quietly but in no way is this a children’s ballet!!
  2. Francesca Hayward told me today that she will be in Acts 1 and 3 of Swan Lake 'doing something', but sadly not the Naghdi performance I'm booked to see!
  3. I wish Hayward and Campbell could have danced together! She was completely magical today, and the only Manon thus far to move me to tears (Osipova came very, very close...)
  4. Lots of returns for Takada/Bracewell (unsurprising) and Osipova/Ball (more surprising)...
  5. Yasmine Naghdi looks so beautiful. I have a feeling this will become her signature role. (If her Giselle wasn’t perfect enough already!!)
  6. I was in the orchestra stalls once and my view was partially blocked by someone's head (not necessarily their fault, but anyway). I'd paid over £117 for a ticket and it was rather annoying! I actually prefer Amphitheatre row A - it's not as close, but I have opera glasses, and it's a totally unobstructed view. I never manage to snag front row orch stalls/front row grand tier seats!
  7. I’ve only just realised that ticket sites are selling tickets for vastly inflated prices
  8. I think you'd have to be on another planet to describe that performance as low quality.
  9. ^ I don’t think Lescaut is a one dimensional villain. He does some awful things, but he is just as seduced by the trappings as wealth (and scared of losing everything) as Manon; and I think he misguidedly believes that she will be happier if she has a life of luxury.
  10. I wonder why he’s been given so few main roles this year ( before injuries etc made recasting necessary)? He’s one of my favourites!
  11. This was my first time seeing this triple bill and I loved it! I found OT quite obtuse but still found it very powerful and moving, and of course gorgeously danced. Nuñez was exquisite in M&A, and paired very well with Muntagirov. Elite Syncopations gave me so much joy, especially Tall and Short with Paul Kay and Melissa Hamilton. Mendizabal was an excellent Calliope, Sambe was athletically fabulous as always, and I couldn’t take my eyes off the magnificent Stix Brunell!
  12. At least Campbell got Des Grieux in the end. No Siegfried AND no Des Grieux would have been very sad, especially with him going to Australia for a few months soon!!
  13. That is very true capybara, I hadn’t thought of it that way!
  14. It’s interesting that the more ‘senior’/ most filmed principals often don’t tend to be people’s favourites to watch.
  15. In the bit when they’re doing the final swamp pdd and the characters from earlier are weaving in and out and dancing behind them, is that the ghosts from their past reappearing to haunt them as if part of a hallucination, or is it literally courtesans in the swamp?
  16. Great review and fabulous photo! I have an iPhone 7 and every time I try to take a close up the cast looks washed out (it really doesn’t seem to like the ROH lights)...any suggestions?
  17. I don’t think saying you have a favourite dancer is making another dancer out to be of lower quality - would you avoid having a favourite writer for that reason? Sometimes a particular dancer resonates with you even if they are technically matched by other dancers.
  18. I actually felt the same - I thought Lamb looked like a kind of fairy with a pixie cut! Not sure if that could have been helped but I felt that Osipova’s transformation was more shocking in terms of appearance.
  19. Haha I think Henry would make a great walk on role! Every time I see Manon I’m blown away by the music. There are so many shades of light and dark in there. (And as a clarinetist it’s wonderful to hear so much woodwind )
  20. Clos Maggiore if you want a treat
