My daughter was taught by an ex Australian Ballet teacher & she made the class do 15 on each leg. And yes, they were slow & controlled.

It's a state funded secondary school Lisa so many may prefer to go onto other colleges aged 16 or in the case of MT degree courses aged 18.

My daughter once attended a summer school but commuted as she she applied late & they had no boarding places left. She didn't enjoy it nearly as much as when she boarded. This year she is attending another summer school & we will be staying very nearby but she has chosen to still board.

Sometimes schools are more disposed to give feedback to a teacher rather than a parent. It may be worth asking your son's teacher to approach them.

If you choose to remain anonymous as is any poster's right, then you also have to accept that you can't just expect people to accept your credentials without question. And that is without differences of opinion on particular matters. You will find even amongst top level teachers, coaches & physios differences of opinion. I remember on another website several years ago a very helpful legal expert poster giving advice. She appeared very knowledgable. It turned out that she was not a qualified lawyer after all but some kind of legal secretary.

Oddly we were only looking at the 6th form prospectus this morning. It seems that students on vocational courses take two A levels plus a Btec.

I was told that they are given scores for each part of their audition, both at prelims & the funding final. There are some children who perform better at prelims than finals & vice versa. I don't know if the different sections are weighted differently though. I would guess that the ballet class has a higher weighting but that is just a guess. A list is then made from the highest to the lowest aggregated scores & MDS are given out like that.

Did Beaglemum mean to say Intermediate Foundation perhaps as that would make much more sense alongside Grades 3/4 than Intermediate?

I only have personal experience of one of the schools. Academically it is not perfect, however the leading independent grammar school my child previously attended was also not perfect in that they failed to pick up on an SpLD which led to my MENSA IQ level child performing at average to above average as there was a huge disparity between their verbal and non verbal ability and their written work. I have heard second hand stories of children who have moved from another vocational school whose parents were not happy with the academics. My personal belief is that my child is achieving better academically than they would have at our local state school but not quite as highly had she continued to attend the independent grammar. However they far happier. My only regret is that the results will not be reported in the school's Progress 8 figure as my child did not do SATS and children who did not do SATS are not taken into account. The raw attainment will be reported in Attainment 8 but I wish the school could take credit for the progress.

I would guess perhaps that the towel may be to lie on for floorwork/pilates type exercises as not everyone would have a gym/pilates mat.

Assuming you attend a state school with approx 6 weeks off in the summer rather than a vocational or private school who get around 8 weeks off I'd say a maximum of 2 weeks summer school plus the odd open class if available in your area

I'm not entirely sure if the size. There are 4 classes per year in years 7-8 & 5 in years 9-11 & spprox 24-28 pupils in each class plus 6th form. So smaller than most secondary schools but a quite a bit larger than most vocational schools. In addition the head also attends almost all concerts & public events at the junior school next to it. I am in agreement with other posters that the director should be in attendance at these auditions barring emergency.

Touts will become friends if they think the membership fee is worth it for the profit they will make on reselling ticked on viagogo. When Hamilton went on sale recently it was paperless ticketing with a limit of 4 in the Presale & 6 in the general sale. The person booking the tickets has to attend the performance & take photo ID. IT has helped but tickets are still appearing on viagogo. The touts are buying 4 tickets then putting 3 up for sale. They will accompany the buyers to the theatre in person! So nothing is foolproof.

I would say never assume that parents know who people are. I, for example have heard of Edward Watson, but I would have to google the other four to find out who they are. My daughter may or may not have heard of them, I would have to ask her.

Student finance is I believe available for many HND courses although it would depend on the specific institution. Student Finance & Dada are the only two funding methods really unless an institution offers school scholarships there may be very limited specific charities/bursary funds usually for people in particular circumstances but these are very few & far between & lots of people will be applying for them.

It does appear that some schools such as Hammond publish quite comprehensive information about what is required at audition but other schools do not. I have been looking on the Tring Park website for example and there very little information about the auditions for their various 6th form courses that I can find.

I believe that they do as the Dance and MT diplomas share a common first year. However it appears after reading a post on the NAPM forum which details the degree audition that the Diploma course does the ballet class first and makes cuts after that whereas the degree course auditions the song first and makes cuts after the song. That appears to me to indicate the slightly different emphasis/importance of the different elements of the audition for the two courses.

Dancing unicorn - If it was the current Year 11 auditioning then it would have been the audition for the 3 year Level 6 Trinity Diploma in either Dance or Musical Theatre which has Dada funding. The BA (hons) in Musical Theatre Performance course which is funded by the student loans system is only open to students have/are taking either A Levels or a Level 3 Btec so the majority of those applicants will be aged 18 plus.
