  1. Who did Renato's marathon 2 hours 30 yesterday? "Khruschev! Podgorny! But not....Brezhnev!"
  2. I was whining on here about trying to find a pair of Sansha Prince shoes a while back. It may not surprise anyone that I eventually gave up and went with the So Dancas instead

    Pirouettes

I really liked a correction of Renato Paroni's the other day: "Get your shoulder under your chin!" If you remember it, it forces you to spot properly
  4. ARGH. I saw the Barcelona Sansha website showing 10+ pairs in stock in my size. I happened to be going there. the shop told me there were NONE, only on the website that won't ship to the UK. (Also they seriously struggled with the idea of a MAN who DANCES and IS A FOREIGN and DOES NOT WANT TO BE FITTED FOR POINTES, but that's secondary)
  5. Does anyone else find that the makers are out of stock basically all the time? I stuck two fingers through a hole in my flats after class on Thursday and looking at the Bloch UK website, nearly everything is a stockout for some combination of style, width, and size. Also it looks like there are about two pairs of Sansha Prince 2C going in the whole country and they aren't in my size. (Plenty in France, but they won't ship from there to here although they will to St Pierre et Miquelon.)
  6. If they could handle Pina Bausch, Klaus Kinski, and Blinky Palermo I reckon they can deal with him. Like us, they are conformist enough to appreciate eccentrics
  7. Special moment: he wanted to make a point about the Balanchine/Bernal thing of deliberately putting weight on the barre. So he had us all take 1st while he ran between us and the the barres on hands and knees making cow noises
  8. Renato made a brief appearance! and comprehensively bust my chops as usual. (He's here for one more night tonight.) "Your allongé should be banned in Germany" "Margot Fonteyn is DEAD! In Balanchine technique an arabesque must always go UP....of course Balanchine is dead too, but...some people never really die." "You know how those people in Battersea count to five? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. [doing tendus en croix] Barbarians! Civilised people count 1, 2, 4, 5 [does them again, closing the tendu a la seconde to the back in one count]...the number 3 does not exist here"
  9. OK, I think you've just won the "Now that's what I call a correction" thread... I started with contemporary (Cunningham/Release) and should probably take class again (or else do a pure ballet intensive this summer).
  10. I've been given the exact same correction, but with champagne, by Nina Thilas-Mohs.
  11. We recently had a new Yorkshire ballerina in class. "Is t'other turn that way or t'other?" "...." "THAT WAY OR T'OTHER?" "..." "IS'T PIROUETTE EN DEHORS OUT OF SECOND OR OUT OF BLOODY FOURTH?!" As a Yorkshireman I was made up. Even I struggle to be that blunt, especially with ballet teachers.
  12. It can be done. In contemporary you do it all the time....even if the last time I took the soft option and stayed in shoes. Balances will be easier and maybe jumps, but tendus and ronds de jambes will feel strange and turns will be harder.
  13. Surely you must have hated homework at some point? Or did....you secretly always love it? I suspect anyone who sticks with ballet might actually like homework.
  14. The prince may not have done, but Rugby League players definitely do, very often as injury rehab.
  15. Hey, we've just been reclassified from Beginner/General to Open Level. Not sure what to make of that. That said, I took Improver last Sunday. Differences: not as many relévés or long balances, less physically challenging barre but somewhat faster pace, much simpler centre (in fact less emphasis on centre). Also 15 minutes less total than the B-Technique Mafia like to hand out:-)
  16. Earlier criticism nonetheless, I was back in my regular class tonight and discovered it's possible to grande battement on demi pointe until your ears pop, so there's that!
  17. Increasingly tempted to do one of these...
  18. Michelle, I thought their remark about knowing any physio who worked with RB might have been a "tell". More to the point, I'd agree with the rest that you should get the imaging done. Get the facts. GPs are usually awful anyway - tell'em what you want and insist.
  19. We had five in 18 on Thursday! Enough to send all the blokes across as a group for jumps. Otoh I was the only boy out of 25 on Tuesday last week. It's very interesting how the class population changes through the week.
