  1. Bognor Regis? A stately minuet would be preferable to the raindance: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=on5TLUz-ag4
  2. Useful: "in an extension balance, only two or three of your toes are really in contact, so it's crucial that you overcross as you reach" Cryptic: "The head is, in general, attached to the body" General exhortation: "Bring all the LIGHT and LOVE in the world in and then THROW IT OUT AGAIN!!!" it was a very good class.
  3. Anna du Boisson today: "Your arms shouldn't be high, or low, but....effective." Also: "when you are in fifth, push down through the floor with your heels and you will feel your inner thighs engage". Not surreal, but definitely useful.
  4. I finally got a pair of Sansha Princes and they...fit? just like that.
  5. Darren Parrish: "Rond de jambes should be done in a swimming pool" (It was about pushing against resistance to get the accent through the arc)
  6. "If we were in the US, there would be plenty of gardens with skeletons in" Huh? Right, *Halloween* "It's the rotation of the ulna! without that, no tools, no agriculture, no culture, and no dancing! we would be mere animals!"
  7. Anna du Boisson this lunchtime. We do our thing in centre. Anna: "... isn't life interesting?"
  8. A beauty from today's carnage at noon: "Show us the DANCER, Fiona!" The point was to show that rather than just dry technique but I am now desperate to find an excuse to say this to someone
  9. I tried the weight shift implied but I think you might have to be him
  10. Anna du Boisson today: "It was Rudolf Nureyev who told me this...turn off your second foot" I did try it but it might have worked better for him
  11. Princes tend to end up either dead, or on the throne, so...
  12. Anna du B: "Excellent! That's an excellent balance, Alex! ... but you need to end like a prince."
  13. TOP SECRET: I have enjoyed doing my girlfriend's hair through the lockdowns enormously, and repeatedly surprised people on zoom calls with the results.
  14. We dance tomorrow for Julia Felix! Ballet is really painful. If you don’t feel that, then you’re not doing it properly https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2021/mar/04/julie-felix-the-brilliant-black-ballerina-who-was-forced-to-leave-britain
  15. Anna du Boisson: "Everybody. [End stop and pause] Shine!"
  16. Pianist Nicky in Anna du Boisson's class today: The Proclaimers, Five Hundred Miles Really not the most balletic song you'd think of.
  17. Danceworks was super-aggressive the first time out - they didn't shut down with everyone else and waited to be told to do so. I always had the impression that if London had been reduced to a dystopian wasteland stalked by huge bats you'd still be able to take class there while waiting for the zombies to show up, but this was considerably less fun for real.
  18. Renato Paroni: "if you want a better balance, let the fingers lead the port de bras" (it was a developpé devant on relévé and it ****ing worked!) Also RP: "Jellyfish the arms...not the shoulders" (Not sure if I jellyfished correctly)
  19. Oh god here we go again. On the other hand I might aim to take class daily this time around as the gyms are closing as well.
  20. Anna du Boisson: "Don't dance like a stick insect!" Well, I'm glad we've made that completely clear. [Actually it was the prelude to a really good point about chainé and soutenu - you're constantly told to stretch the knees, straighten the leg, and turn out, but to get this right you need to initiate the turn with a tiny plié and slightly relax the turnout]
  21. I didn't see anyone else wearing one and the staff aren't, but it just seems sensible.
  22. A couple of days earlier I did the swings workout in just under 14 minutes, without a mask, outside my flat, and didn't feel anything like that.
