Manon, Royal Ballet Winter 2024
nycitybird replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
As for the rest of the performance, Zucchetti and Masciari were standouts for me and Viola Pantuso made so much of her small featured role as the girl dressed in boy's clothes. I think she'll be going places. And Gary Avis's acting is just next level. I was having a hard time looking away from his interactions with Frankie at the table. What a special night!- 996 replies

Royal Ballet - Swan Lake 2024

It feels a bit soon for me, especially considering how long Bracewell and Clarke were doing almost exclusively principal roles before being promoted.- 832 replies

I just signed up for the free trial and Chromecast is working for me, so it does have the capability. If the Chromecast symbol isn't coming up for you, have your tried just casting your screen?

RB Sleeping Beauty - May/June 2023
nycitybird replied to Sim's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
She was so stunning and ethereal in the vision scene. The person behind me made me smile when he said 'the prince is a bit dense. The real hero here is the Indigo Fairy!' 😂 -

NYCB at Sadler's Wells - 07-10 March 2024

Thanks for the tip, I'll be watching this as it seems like the ideal NYCB programme for me! I'm also disappointed in what they're bringing to London. -

NYCB just did a short tour to Madrid in March, so looking at the dates above perhaps March is looking good? -

Royal Ballet Cinderella March/April 2023
nycitybird replied to Sim's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I loved the women's dresses at the ball, so I found Cinderella's white tutu quite boring in comparison. I think I had the beautiful gold dress from Wheeldon's version in my head. I'm not really a tutu fan anyway, so I'm probably biased.- 1,333 replies

The Sleeping Beauty, Royal Ballet 2023

Just wondering if Yuhui Choe has ever danced the Lilac Fairy? If not, I wonder why, as I can imagine she'd be perfect for it. -
He is probably my favourite male dancer. I was lucky to see him in Mayerling and Onegin, which are in my top 3 ballet performances I've ever seen. As Emerelds said, I don't think there is a role or style that wouldn't suit him. I really hope I can see his final performance, although I'll probably be a wreck ðŸ˜

Royal Ballet's Giselle - Autumn 2021

Me too, and that was the first time I really had the emotional response I thought one should have during Act 2. I also thought the 'wafty' lifts where she looked like she was floating in space were so breathtaking. I'm gutted I couldn't see them again in this run as their 2018 performance made this my favourite classical ballet. -

I found it an odd choice for an opener, especially coming after the Sleeping Beauty music. I thought they'd start with something joyful after that!- 183 replies

I was lucky to see it in Copenhagen and it's one of my favourite modern ballets. Love the music and found it joyous and moving. I remember having tears in my eyes as the curtain came down, and I love it when an abstract ballet can do that!
