  1. Public booking a nightmare! I had to try each page several times before the 'book now' button would load. For the mixed bill it never did until I went in date by date by the cast info links down the right hand side. Needless to say I couldn't get a ticket for the gala although it kept telling me there were still 2 available in the amphi.
  2. The casting for The Firebird/A Month in the Country/Symphony in C has gone up on the ROH website. Great news as Edward Watson is set to make his comeback partnering Yasmine Naghdi as The Firebird on Opening Night. The 2nd cast The Firebird is Mendizabal/Kish and 3rd cast is Heap/Hirano. https://www.roh.org.uk/mixed-programmes/the-firebird-a-month-in-the-country-symphony-in-c
  3. Hi everyone! My DD has just completed The London Ballet Company summer intensive for the second year now, and has been reaccepted as TLBC Associate from September as well so just wanted to give a huge shout out to the Director, Sophie and her team who have just been amazing! The Associates run once a month on Sundays in Battersea and it’s an excellent addition to existing ballet training to get the creative juices flowing and for anyone who is interested in contemporary ballet. Another one of their amazing features is YoBallet which focusses on strengthening the core and using all the right muscles. They also have a school in Wimbledon that is worth checking out (although we don’t currently attend as it quite a distance for us) but what’s different about them is that they don’t follow any strict syllabus and work by strengthening and stretching the right muscles and correcting posture to get the best results. Just had to post as it’s been a little secret of my DD for a while now and she comes out beaming after every session :) The facilities are of an excellent standard too and since I ran a search and couldn’t find any posts on them so I thought I’d get the word out there.
  4. For the last few days or so, I have been feeling really not-myself. To start with, I have a really horrible cold which keeps me up at night by the box of tissues, and cannot speak at all. Ever since I have caught it, everything at all physical I do (even walking up the street!) results in me breaking out into a nasty hot sheen of sweat... And I don't usually sweat at all (unless in ballet class!) I suppose the extremes of 27 degree sunshine at sports day to the flash floods and Terrential freezing rain this week haven't helped. Anyway, it doesn't seem to get better I usually do about 2.5 hours of ballet practice at home on days I don't do class, but also recently my big right toe has become throbbing with pain(from the ball of the foot to the nail)... It started excruciating but on,y when flexed, but not it is a dull ache constantly. I have festivals this weekend and really wanted to get loads of hard practice done, but I have started to lose my concentration and just stand there in another world. I'm also scared because at pointe class yesterday my ankles felt exceedingly wobbly... Maybe that is just my pointe shoes dying though... They are very old.. there has also been lots of not very nice drama at school and home... And I just feel like I want to go unconscious for the rest of eternity! What should I do? I have summer school very soon (end of July to mid August) and want to be top of my game for that, so I wanted to keep up a hard regime of daily practice over the first week, especially as I have the festivals. I've worked very hard on my technique and I just want everything to be perfect! sorry for the ultra long post, thank you in advance, ArucariaBallerina P.S I am still adoring ballet, sometimes I'm scared by how much I love it... Family were looking at me very strangely as I started crying while sat in the splits wat hing the final R+J pas de deux.... And in English when I cried listening to the music from the Nutcracker where the Prince does his mime about the Mouse King and Clara's ballet shoe rescue...
  5. Was surprised to see most of the casting is on the ROH website for Summer, can't see it anywhere here yet, sorry I can't copy but can remember M and A casting as: Yanovsky/Bolle Ferri/Bonelli Osipova/TBC Lots to think about!
  6. Hi there, I wanted to let you know about a course I have running this Summer and I hope I'm posting this in the correct section! From 14th to 18th August 2017 I will be running an intensive week of ballet classes designed for ADULT BEGINNERS. The classes will be held at our studio in Shalford, which is 5 minutes from Guildford, Surrey. We have a lovely studio with Harlequin flooring, ballet barres, mirrors and a large changing/waiting area. The timetable for the week is currently being finalised but will include a daily Pilates class, one or two ballet classes per day, a couple of Yoga classes during the week, a Jazz class if we can fit one in, and hopefully by the end of the week you'll have learned a piece of choreography to perform. This course is not suitable for anyone other than beginners and is restricted to 12 places only, so that you can get the most out of the week's tuition. Guildford is a great area with access to mainline rail links and the village of Shalford is very picturesque. There seems to be a lot of summer courses aimed at pre-vocational/vocational students so I wanted to provide a course for those that have always wanted to learn ballet but maybe thought they'd left it too late Please drop me an email if you're interested and I can send you more information: welovetodance.net@googlemail.com or you can call me on 07946 363 556.

These wonderful groups of people come together during the Summer to experience a taste of what it is like to work in a professional contemporary ballet company. We ask them to take on huge challenges and every student tackles each one with determination and tenacity. By the end of the course, they are no longer a group defined by their age, ability, gender or anything else - they are simply and wonderfully a group of dance artists helping and encouraging each other on their dance journey.
