  1. At the screening of The Flames of Paris today the cinema screenings for next season were shown. 2. I really enjoyed Winter's Tale at the cinema last night and was really moved by the final Pas de deux, however the sound when Ore and Darcey were speaking was really muted as though the microphones weren't switched on properly. Did anyone else find this? Also I was really worried at the start because first of all there was no sound, then the satellite link broke a couple of times and at one point we got a foreign news channel (possibly Norwegian), which made everyone laugh! Luckily it settled down when the ballet started.
  3. Yes and the number is going up as the day goes on, currently 42 (and 54 for tomorrow). I had to return mine this morning as I couldn't risk not being able to get home or dragging my husband out at midnight in heavy snow (which is forecast) to pick me up. Luckily my ticket sold so at least I'll get my money back.
  4. Robin Cousins choreographed a piece for some of the graduate students at Elmhurst a few years ago. Unfortunately I didn't get to see it it as it was only performed at a gala for which the tickets were too expensive.
  5. Yes but the venues so far announced are mainly "North" venues apart from Cheltenham which is a "South", so are they only doing one tour instead of two next year? Not only are York and Durham not included but neither are Poole and Truro.
  6. Here's the link for The Times article about Marianela for those who can access it. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/times2/marianela-nunez-the-best-ballerina-in-britain-and-thats-official-klxbdtwqk
  7. The casts for Drosselmeyer, Snow and Rose Fairies are now on the website for performances up to 29th November.
  8. I assume the same one that the Dorfman Theatre at the National Theatre is named after.
  9. Casting for all Birmingham performances is now on the website, although only Sugar Plum Fairy, Prince and Clara. https://www.brb.org.uk/whats-on/event/the-nutcracker-2017
  10. The two casts I saw in June were Jenna Roberts and Celine Gittens as the Fairy, Joseph Caley and Mathias Dingman as the Young Man and Momoko Hirata and Miki Mizutani as the Bride. I would imagine they will be pretty much the same at the Wells, with the exception of Joe Caley who, of course, has moved to ENB.
  11. Tonight's Front Row on BBC2 at 7.30 tonight features Darcey Bussell on Sir Kenneth MacMillan.
  12. Thanks for the alert, I've just managed to get one for Thursday when I'm in for the main performance as well.
  13. The casting is on the BRB website for the triple bill and Aladdin (except for the Saturday performances) https://www.brb.org.uk/whats-on/venue/birmingham-hippodrome
  14. I saw this at the beginning of September and really enjoyed it. For anyone who is an opera fan Josephine Barstow, although only in a small role, is superb in her solo. Thoroughly recommend it.
  15. Cast list in English from the Bolshoi Ballet website http://www.bolshoi.ru/en/performances/198/roles/#20171022180000
  16. Thanks a lot for the information bridiem and ninamargeret.
  17. Can I ask on behalf of a friend of mine if when the booking for the lowest level of the Friends opens if you can book by phone (albeit at 10 o'clock) or is it just online?
  18. I managed to get a ticket for the Thursday performance, for which there were more seats available than for the Wednesday. It was the first programme I went to at 9 o'clock and then managed to get the Sylvia tickets I wanted.
  19. Website appears to have crashed and got a message when I tried to phone that the performance is sold out.
  20. Just back from seeing my second view of The Red Shoes and with the same cast as my previous viewing, Ashley Shaw as Vicky Page, Sam Archer as Lermontov and Chris Trenfield as Julian Craster, I felt that the interpretations had deepened since earlier in the year. Sitting further back this time, rear stalls against front of the circle, the whole thing still worked really well and the whole cast were superb. I normally find I'm not too bothered about seeing Matthew Bourne's works more than once but I would happily see this many times over.
  21. I'm just back from the B'ham Hippodrome from a performance of The Red Shoes and while ther I picked up a leaflet for Acosta Danza who are touring in the autumn. Among the choreographers mentioned which I hadn't seen before is Justin Peck of NYCB. So looking forward to seeing a piece of his choreography.
  22. I've just tried to set Woolf Works to record on my Virgin box and the record button won't set it (or for the 1.30 repeat). Is anyone else having a problem with this? I need to record it as we will be watching Formula 1, which clashes with it. I've had this happen once before, although I can't now remember what the programme was. I've set it as a manual recording and hope that works.
  23. Apparently now that Ashley Day has taken over as Gerry Mulligan his understudy is Max Westwell, ex ENB. From something I read on another forum his first performance is tomorrow afternoon and then will be Monday nights in some weeks time.
  24. There are a few tickets showing on the ROH website for all performances at the moment for anyone who still wants a ticket.
