  1. Good to see some members of BRB at the screening in Birmingham.
  2. What I would like to see is at least one matinee performance of every bill (full length and triple) so that those of us who don't live in London can get to see them. Also, why do the matinees have to start so early? Even for those in London it makes having lunch awkward and means a really early start to get to the ROH.
  3. An interesting article about the problems black ballet dancers have with their shoes. Specifically cites Eric Underwood and mentions Tyrone Singleton and Brandon Lawrence. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35629323
  4. Margot Fonteyn is among a number of new names announced by English Heritage to be featured on commemorative blue plaques. http://bit.ly/1TDoRps

Sylvie Collier's film offers an insight into the discipline and dreams of the boys as they audition and train for their first public performance in their school's production of Peter and the Wolf and reveals the sacrifices they gladly make to pursue their ambitions
  6. Why do the matinees always seem to be the same cast? Exactly the same has happened with The Winter's Tale. I can't really afford to go more than once but it would be nice to have a choice of cast.
  7. I will be going tonight and tomorrow afternoon. I would love to be going to the Saturday matinee as well but unfortunately I have something else booked for then.
  8. Tickets for Ā£10 for The Dream/Month in the Country bill offer https://www.facebook.com/bhamroyalballet/ If you're not on Facebook book using code 'DREAM'
  9. This is still listed at a few Cineworld cinemas, see http://www1.cineworld.co.uk/films/san-francisco-ballet-romeo-and-juliet/, but this is a much reduced list. It's no longer on at Solihull where I was going to see it. If it had been completely cancelled I could understand it but why is it still showing at some cinemas and not all the others originally announced?
  10. 11. I went to see this last night at the Crescent Theatre in Birmingham where there was a full house. Really enjoyed it and find it amazing how many quick costume changes the dancers have to make. I thought the costumes and headdresses were lovely and the dancing excellent. The cast was Emma Miller as Gerda, Vincent Cabot as Kay and Charlotte Eades as the Snow Queen.
  12. I saw this at the Cineworld in Solihull where there was a total of 11, including me and my husband. This had gone down to 5 by the end of the Q & A session. We also came into this at the same point. I put this down to the fact that we had a series of adverts after Kirsty Wark said "Let's see the film" when I think they may have gone straight into it at the cinema where the Q & A was coming from.

  14. There's an article in The Sunday Times magazine today about the Bolshoi to tie in with the showing of Bolshoi Babylon.
  15. Glad to have been of help, hope you really enjoy it.
  16. I know it's not the same as seeing him live but you could also try seeing him in the cinema for Jonas Kaufmann: An Evening with Puccini on 11 February. Find where it is being shown here: http://jonaskaufmannpuccinifilm.com
  17. This will also now be showing at the following Cineworld cinemas: Aberdeen - Union Square Ashford Birmingham - Broad Street Bolton Braintree Cheltenham Chichester Didsbury Eastbourne Glasgow - Renfrew Street Isle of Wight Solihull Witney Yeovil Hope this may of be some help to some people. It certainly was for me as previously there wasn't anywhere at all near to me to see it.

  19. Intrigued to see two clips from Les Noces, would like to know who was in the earlier one as I don't ever remember seeing it on TV before. Anyone remember it?
  20. Yes, it is on again next year, 25 Nov - 13 Dec 2016. Priority booking for Friends and Donors opens tomorrow!
  21. Public booking for this opens today.Casting has been announced. The first bill is here https://www.wmc.org.uk/Productions/2016-2017/DonaldGordonTheatre/MariinskyProgramme1/?view=Standard And the second one here https://www.wmc.org.uk/Productions/2016-2017/DonaldGordonTheatre/MariinskyProgramme2/ I'm afraid I find the second programme very poor value with a running time of 1hr 25min including a 25min interval. Also there are no matinees, only a 5 o'clock performance on the Sunday. Much as I would like to see them I'm afraid I shall be giving them a miss.
  22. The Royal Ballet's set has always been slightly different to that of BRB. The stairs on the side of the studio are a lot higher and the "arch" with the draped cloth over it enables the dancers to go round it whereas their is no gap in the BRB set. If this sounds peculiar you'll see what I mean when you see the ballet.
  23. Casting is now up for The Nutcracker at the Birmingham Hippodrome on the BRB website. Casting for Sugar Plum, Nutcracker Prince and Clara only. As is now usual you have to click on each performance to find out the cast, I'll try to post a complete list later if someone else doesn't beat me to it.
  24. I've just been looking at the programme for the south mid-scale tour and notice that BRB appear to be going back to the original designs by Desmond Heeley for Solitaire. It gives his name as designer on their website and there is also an illustration of RB students showing those designs. I will be so so pleased if this is the case as I love Solitaire but it was ruined for me by both of the redesigns. https://www.brb.org.uk/whats-on/event/five-tangos-midscale-tour
