  1. I thought that Cojocaru was injured, and Kobborg then withdrew as well, but I could be wrong. I remember that insight evening: it was fascinating. As I think I said in the other thread, it was originally cast 4 performances for C/K and only 2 for B/W. Although I was sorry to miss C/K in it, I was delighted that the other cast got so many performances of it, because their interpretations really deepened as the run went on (I think it was on a bill with Winter Dreams, and I saw almost every performance?) Incidentally, IIRC Brandstrup said that he choreographed it differently for the two couples. Can anyone confirm?
  2. Possibly because it was designed to follow on from La Valse, and the last time that was performed it was part of an all-Ashton bill. And/or that it wasn't that long after that Benjamin retired, and the dancers it was actually created on (Kobborg/Cojocaru) left?
  3. My reaction before I saw MAB's post: Yes, but that was enough. Hang on, though. If you'd asked me, I'd have sworn he was in the Wheeldon Carousel number. Am I imagining it?
  4. You'd think it would be fairer that way, wouldn't you? It would prevent people from potentially deciding not to bother voting because they realised it was a lost cause.
  5. Are you UK-based, pianolady? I'm wondering why you seem to have Bright Stream a week later than other cinemas.
  6. I've just noticed that this 1960s BBC TV play about homelessness, which apparently indirectly inspired the setting-up of the charity Shelter, is on BBC4 tonight at 10.30. I think it's a rare showing - I certainly don't remember it being on TV recently - so well worth catching.

    Room 101

Foodstuff manufacturers who glue up the flaps of cartons so much that you can't get them undone! Seriously, have you tried opening cereal packets and the like recently? It's difficult to find enough space to get a finger under the flap.
  8. I like the Cafe in the Crypt, except that the wifi never works in there any more Oh, and the chef has an intermittent obsession on putting courgettes in everything, which means that I can't eat anything.
  9. Well, 2 out of the 3 reviews I've seen so far haven't exactly been enthusiastic - about the bill as a whole, not necessarily Multiverse.
  10. So, as far as I can see, those who dislike Multiverse fall into 3 camps: i) those who dislike the music ii) those who dislike the choreography, and iii) those who dislike both. Is that a fair assessment? I must say that I came out of it with quite a headache myself, although am not sure whether it was totally caused by the work or whether it was already starting.
  11. More of those random thoughts which keep appearing at odd moments during the ballet: - what about the secondary group of officers, the ones who dive off the ship? What did they do during the original Act I when it was, I understand, set as a picnic in the countryside? Was there a lake? Is the "going for a swim" bit an addition? - I've only just realised that the dancer who plays Anna Vyrubova in Acts I and II then becomes the Matron in Act III. What, if anything, does it say that she "changes sides" while everyone else appears to stay the same? - I noticed from one of the old reviews which Lynette linked to, I think it was, that there was a mention of Anna's "silent scream" in Act III - yet all 3 ballerinas in this run were vocal in their screaming. Is that another change?
  12. Thanks, Aileen. I spotted it this morning just before I went out, but forgot to post about it.
  13. Wondering who'll be replacing Steven McRae in Chroma and Multiverse for the rest of the run?
  14. Thanks, Janet: I'd rather given up on Exmouth Market in recent months and used the café - or Cote up by Islington Green.
  15. That was the notorious "hanging chad" election, wasn't it?
  16. Personal votes, I guess you mean. I've been left the past few days wondering if the time differences across the USA actually tend to disadvantage the West Coast states, given that the whole election appeared to have been done and dusted before their votes were counted anyway.
  17. Even things way back as far as Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 have pointed in that direction. In a society where not a few people already vote as if an election was simply a televised popularity (or reverse-popularity) contest, that wouldn't surprise me.
  18. But on the other hand, others (and I don't mean the usual suspects) have said how much they enjoy working with him. So I guess it takes all sorts ...
  19. I don't suppose you have an account with Tesco Bank? Right now, that would be a very good excuse.
  20. That said, there are quite a few restaurants around St. Paul's, which should normally only be a short bus ride away from the ROH. (They're much less busy on a Saturday evening)
  21. I hadn't registered that it was the Lord Mayor's Show this weekend. Something to take into consideration if going e.g. to the ROH tomorrow.
  22. Unfortunately, I was unable to fit it into my schedule - shame there wasn't a performance on Wednesday
