  1. I imagine if the students are minors they will expect named guardians to step up.
  2. I suspect they had students from across the globe attending the spring intensive and they will be sharing bedrooms and all facilities. They also will be needing to protect their international students who may be going to guardians over the Easter holiday and then returning to school. Will be difficult for them if school is closed due to staff shortages due to illness or quarantine. When Dd has been involved at Move It impression was most UK based attendees.
  3. Here’s hoping we can limit the spread by taking sensible precautions. My assumption is that as an illness that generally doesn’t cause to much grief to the fit and healthy we want to avoid the vulnerable needing to be hospitalised in ITU beds so want to avoid them catching it. As someone who fits the vulnerable category and with an aged mother with the same health condition but further down the path, we’ve made changes to our daily life to try to avoid catching covid-19. And I would hope others in similar situations would do the same. I’m obviously working but won’t be planning any trips or outings to crowded places and will avoid public transport.
  4. https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/when-and-how-to-use-masks If we all start using masks routinely I worry that people will be less conscious of their hand hygiene. Also if everyone starts buying masks they won’t be available for use for those caring for sick relatives/neighbours.
  5. There were less than 9000 recorded SARS cases worldwide during the outbreak and approx 10% of those died. Covid-19 is well beyond that number and although a lower death rate the higher number of infected people means there are more sick people requiring intensive medical intervention and deaths.
  6. Businesses, universities, schools are having the same problems as the general public purchasing hand sanitiser. Those that do have supplies have the added problem of dispensers being stolen, even if fixed to the wall. The one you mention sounds very similar to the ones we have at my work place, really good except use 4 x D batteries per unit so keeping them in action is proving a challenge as power heavy.
  7. I assume Italy have closed public buildings in the north of the country to stop the spread. People won’t just be visiting La Scala from Milan, they will travel from other regions. They’ve had around 500 cases, aren’t we below 20? I believe the government advice is if you had travelled back from one of the affected towns in Italy then you need to self quarantine and follow the advice if you become unwell. I imagine if we start to see clusters of cases we will also see public building being closed but we are not at that stage yet. Apart from one sufferer in Uk all the other cases can trace their infection back to travel to an affected area.
  8. I think the problem is that it is an unknown quantity for the WHO/PHE. They don’t know yet if it will drop off when the weather improves and because there is no vaccine therefore those that are vulnerable will put our already stretched health system under even more strain. With the usual seasonal flu you hope for herd immunity via the offered vaccination among the vulnerable and health workers. But I think the news outlets are trying to raise hysteria among the general population.
  9. The WHO believe there have been some shredding of the virus by asymptotic carriers, the same as the usual flu and seasonal colds. The best advice is wash hands or use gel frequently especially after using public transport or being in busy areas. Don’t touch face, eyes, nose, mouth with hands unless you know they are clean. According to an infection control nurse we subconsciously touch our faces on average 30 times per hour. If you sneeze or cough use a tissue and discard. Avoid using hand as if have anything you will inevitably touch a door handle etc and spread any disease you may have. I feel for the businesses in the areas where the have been cases and the streets are empty.

    Room 101

In our area of rural Suffolk we have access to a faster service via a wireless provider. We were sceptical but it works, doesn’t cut out when it rains and the couple of times we’ve had problems they’ve responded promptly.
  11. There were no visible police before the event, as the women screamed they appeared from every direction
  12. A number of years ago I witnessed a bag snatch in Liverpool St station - the thief was dressed in a smart suit and looked like a business man waiting for his train. Police arrived from nowhere within seconds so had obviously been watching him.
  13. RBS run audition experience days and parents could observe when my Dd took part.
  14. Alison you got me curious but I have an iPhone. The tickets I downloaded and put into books folder are still there as PDF. Those that were on specific apps eg:train and flights have disappeared after use. You were probably thinking of theatre but ages since I’ve been anywhere except local which only has paper tickets.
  15. Wear Moi are mostly from lined and come in a huge variation of styles
  16. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that. Surely the government can look at their own statistics at those coming out of vocational schools following DaDA funding and tracking the number that get ‘paid’ employment in ballet companies. I don’t know if those that had student finance are tracked by their training institutes.
  17. I don’t think she needs to worry that a vocational school with expect her to attend their summer school. If it’s a reputable school I would expect that they’re already got a full cohort for the summer course. Also summer courses are a good way for prospective applicants to see if they like a school so if she’s already accepted a place it’s a bit too late for her. Good luck to her for her auditions.

    Room 101

Putting this winter’s seemingly endless storms into room 101. We haven’t had the floods some have suffered but fed up now with the high winds and the disruption they cause. Off to work in an hour but been awake forever listening to the howling.
  19. I’m sorry to hear your Dd is unwell but pleased to hear she is about to start treatment. A number of years ago a friend’s Dd, who was in year 9 of a vocational school had to be hospitalised with an eating disorder. She tried to return to the school in year 10 but wasn’t ready so returned home for a full recovery. At 16 she was accepted at Central with them knowing fully about her medical history, she completed the course and went on to have a dance career. There were a number of DC who were also hospitalised with eating disorders whilst my Dd was at vocational school, both lower and upper. The only one that didn’t get the support she required was the one who’s parents hadn’t been open with the school about her illness. She ultimately had to leave but after a long gap, during which I hope she got the help needed, I believe is now training elsewhere. So our experience is the schools are open to supporting students who have a history of eating disorders but I would also agree with @drdance and postpone all thoughts of auditioning until your Dd is fully fit. I wish you all well at what must be a very stressful time.
  20. She should try to get as much fresh air to her feet as possible this weekend, so bare feet to help it heal. As mentioned compeed good but we’ve also used opsite especially when blister larger than compeed. With you mentioning it being her annual ballet assessment I’m guessing she’s at vocational school? If so she should head to medical and ask their advice, they see blisters all the time.
  21. Even with the ‘right feet’ or not it is very difficult to get into the RBS associate program. The panel will will be looking for all sorts of attributes from a huge number of dc to fill very few places. If your Dd enjoys dance then why not suggest she auditions for a number of associate schemes including RBS?
  22. Audition notices on BalletEurope website. There was a notice board at school that detailed upcoming auditions but absence permission was required to attend and was not always forthcoming.
