  1. I read this and then had to rescue cat who was trapped beyond veg garden by very wet but very vocal pheasant. I would be more understanding if pheasants were good parents and protecting a nest but this is everywhere in garden and I’ve witnessed their poor parenting skills often. Our starlings haven’t returned this year but we had masses last year feeding in garden. No cuckoo heard yet either.
  2. We over wintered two young hedgehogs again this year. The male who was rescued from the red hot poker that grows just outside patio door has curiously moved back into the same spot. He was indoors for five months and was released a long way from the house. We have three hog feeding stations across garden and it’s interesting to see the various visitors overnight on the trail camera. The individuals follow the same route night after night. We’re having problems here with a male pheasant who is harassing the cat to the point he won’t go out. He picks any high point, tree, fence or wall and shouts at him.
  3. There were a number of news articles a year or so ago about Ballet Black and Freed working together to produce shoes in a variety of skin tones. Not sure they aren’t special order though?
  4. Sadly my experiences with our local police are similar, once even asking me to remind them where our village was 🙄. I’ve found recently you can report some events via a weblink on the police website and I would be tempted to report the gas canisters purely because if in the future there is a death or serious injury at this site involving nitrous oxide it won’t be on your conscience.
  5. Do you mean the little silver canisters that contain nitrous oxide? If you are finding quantities of them I think the police would be interested before they’re called to an incident at the site. My annoyance since the C-19 lockdown is on our daily walk we encounter discarded wet/baby wipes and latex gloves on verges. We’re in a rural area but not a beauty spot and haven’t encountered any new walkers but have constantly been passed by lots of cars so do wonder if they’re discarded from the vehicles. Still haven’t heard a cuckoo but the house martins returned this week.

    Flooring.

I don’t know how to link previous threads but there is a very recent one about Harlequin floors
  7. We’ve noticed we haven’t had any starlings this year. Last few years there have been loads.
  8. Oh yes perfect gift. I gave postgirl some as a thank you this week.
  9. And a friend who takes her daily exercise in Christchurch posted a photo on her social media yesterday showing the owl was back in residence.
  10. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-52732814 Update from Cambridge on next academic year. Feel sad for all students with so much uncertainty for them.
  11. It is called ‘multisystem inflammatory disorder’ of children and adolescents, very similar to Kawasaki. Children with it really won’t be dancing or taking part in sports - they will be very ill.
  12. Have heard today that a local deli now has both dried and fresh yeast plus bread flour. Maybe smaller shops near you might have something @Fonty
  13. My Dd was given two polo shirts, size XS height 164cm, they are as new because student they belonged to originally didn’t stay long at the school. Dd never grew into them in all her time at Elmhurst. If anyone is interested in them I can send out after lockdown is over.
  14. I wish I knew Fonty. Weekly I hope some might be available in supermarket. I was surprised to find a lack of various items from our list this week; pasta, eggs, broccoli, cabbage, rice... It was much like the beginning of the lockdown.
  15. I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that the original poster was asking after a vocational dance school. Assuming they are then the school will be dealing with students from various locations both nationally and internationally that will be in boarding houses or shared accommodation. And consequently will have to plan for various scenarios much as universities are, desperate to get back to normal but the welfare of staff and students has to be considered. I imagine most parents and students want to be back in full time education but the reality is it should only happen when it is safe to do so. Australia might be ready to send their children or brats as you so eloquently put it back to school but haven’t they had around 100 deaths?
  16. That’s the million dollar question. My feelings are they will probably open to some extent but school staff must be having a logistical nightmare just thinking about it all. Will they have the same number boarding? Most children share bedrooms and other facilities. A number of students come from overseas, how will they manage them if they need to self isolate after travelling as per today’s news. How will they move the children around the school if there are still social distancing measures in place? Spacing in studios and academic classrooms will be an issue. Teachers having to put hands on children to help with correct placements. What will the do about PDD and other dances where the students touch each other? I know that doesn’t answer any of your questions but I know universities are working hard to see how much they can open come the new term, not knowing what the social measures will be but expecting there will be some in place and trying to preempt any guidance. @paulc where are you looking at accommodation? Is it in short supply or can you hold off making any decisions until we are further through this crisis and have a better feel to how things might pan out?
  17. From Norwich Theatre Royals newsletter today. Rosie Kay's Fantasia Fantasia takes ballet and tutus into the 21st Century. Delve deeply into a soundtrack of Vivaldi, Purcell, Beethoven and Bach and revel in the vision of three bold female dancers as they explore love, loss and joy! Premiering on Friday at 8pm.
  18. Just Ballet? Also Dancia sell GM and I’ve phoned them in past and they’ve posted out items as don’t really have an online store. Problem is I imagine they and a lot of the retailers are closed at the moment because of the lockdown.
  19. And a number of overseas students come to lower schools in UK with minimal English but pick the language up very quickly.
  20. John Cranko and Hamburg. Princess Grace in Monte Carlo. Antwerp ballet School. Royal Danish in Copenhagen. There are numerous others
  21. In all honesty this is what we are expecting to happen for my Dd course for at least the first term. Husband works at a university and they are working out the logistics of when they reopen how they will cope with crowds in corridors at ends of lectures, spacing in labs, width of corridors etc because they fully expect social distancing to be advised for the ongoing future. Never mind the logistics of getting everything online for lectures. My niece also due to start university in September has already been told her course will now start in January.
  22. I obviously don’t know you economic circumstances but would Sean be entitled to the maintenance grant on top of the maintenance loan?
  23. https://www.smucb.ac.uk/downloads/saffairs/Accommodation Booklet 2017-18.pdf This is a couple of years out of date but assume you and Sean have seen an updated version? My Dd is due to start university this autumn and found the decision making around accommodation difficult. Eventually she went for halls although she doesn’t need to pay a deposit until the allocation is made later in the summer.
  24. Do the privately rented rooms include utilities, insurance and WiFi? How much would the commute from the halls to university be? What is the food shopping like at both locations? How long are the contracts for both places? University halls tend to be 39 weeks were as private can be 51 weeks. If the university he is attending has a contract that means students can rent rooms from the other university why do you assume he will be the only one there from his university? These are all questions we’ve asked ourselves whilst helping Dd make a similar decision recently. One thing that varies between halls but they do generally have social events to help the first years settle and have reception/security staff to offer support.
