  1. I think the director in this case was maybe saying what appeared to the the right thing and dressed it up as being the right decision for the student. Schools who receive funding make their decisions based on what the outcomes will be for the school - their funding is based on measures of success I.e. How many students are employed on graduation. If they think a student won't get a contract they won't offer an upper school place.
  2. Sadly I have seen some behaviour that would rival Dance Moms...
  3. I find this notion of pupils being assessed out because of physique very interesting because at one of the summer shows this year it was quite obvious that the upper school had quite a range of physiques. These are obviously youngsters who have had to go through auditions at 16, post-puberty, and physique doesn't seem to have made a difference to them being accepted.
  4. Looking at previous year's emails we've had the information by the end of July. I think they probably get the end of term out of the way at the school first.
  5. My grandmother was a tailor so I think it's more to do with what you are sewing? I most definitely didn't inherit any practical sewing skills so that is all I have to contribute to this thread ????
  6. My ds didn't get his place until late April last year and others in his class were even later I think so don't give up hope just yet!
  7. If my ds hadn't got a y7 place this year he simply wouldn't have been able to access enough classes or any specific boys training at home. He probably would have stopped before y9.
  8. Belts have never been worn at our school for RAD exams so I'm guessing there's some flexibility there about whether they're necessary or not.
  9. Last year my ds was told his hamstrings were tight and he needed to stretch them more effectively. He was still offered a place though and a year on his hamstrings are much improved ????
  10. Last year it was the 22nd April when my ds got a place from the Elmhurst waiting list. It can take a few weeks for everything to settle down.
  11. My ds started ballet first, just because he loved dancing and his sister followed him into it. Not the usual way round!
  12. There seemed to be quite a few older pupils at finals last year so I think if they want to see you again they'll take you to finals, regardless of how many spaces they might have. Well done to all the yeses, doesn't seem like two minutes since last year. Long wait til finals now though!
  13. Hi I'll have the coppelia/swan lake/Cinderella DVDs if you still have them?
  14. From what I remember from looking at the y7 timetable for elmhurst it's about 18-20 hours I think.
  15. Just back from seeing this at the cinema with my 7yr old dd. We both absolutely adored it. Alexander Campbell was fabulous as was Gary Avis. Both leads were very engaging and Lamb especially convincing in the still moments of contemplation.
  16. There is now an Elmhurst Year 7 Facebook page for those who want to join ????
  17. I did exactly this and then cried all the way to work!! I'm hoping this won't be an everyday occupancy for the (possibly) next 8 years because I will never get any work done to pay the bills!
  18. My ds is 11, dd 7. It took him a while to get used to the 'last minute' nature of learning the dances but after four or so exams he's used to it now! He's off to full time school next week so will have to get used to a whole new style of teaching again. Dd has just done her gr1 exam and coped fine too, got a distinction so leaving the dances til the end didn't hurt her either. I know some of the older girls in their school do get a little frustrated with the grade classes because they don't feel like they're doing much proper dancing but it does seem to pay off in the end.
  19. Regarding the dances, at the school my dc attend the dances are always left until right to the very end to learn and often are still being learned the week before the exam! It's all a bit nerve wracking for the students but they always get high merits and distinctions. I asked their teacher about this and she said that if they've done all the exercises and learnt all the steps then the dances come together very quickly. It obviously works for her. Maybe your dd's teacher has a similar way of working?
  20. My ds has this one, it's very good although he's never felt the need to convert it to a backpack yet!
  21. I would think most applicants will apply elsewhere so I can't imagine it makes much difference.
