  1. Hmm might need a little edit there Peanut68????
  2. Well said 2littledancers, i agree with you. Every step of our children's dance experience is competitive in some way even if its only in class when the considered more able dancers take an exam first or get a better position in a school show dance. Its the very nature of the dance world and to succeed our children need to get used to it. Dance is very subjective, what one teacher/examiner/adjudicator thinks will not always be the same as the next. Every audition they attend for associate places, youth ballet performances, vocational school places are competitions. Unless they dance purely for pleasure each one of them at some point will experience small successes and failures. Dance is not as clear cut as winning/loosing a tennis or football match. To celebrate our children's successes whilst keeping their feet on the ground and their expectations in check is the key. They may be 'World Champion' in one dance (or more if they are lucky) but equally will not be placed in another and yes I agree that maybe the 'best' in the world will not be competing at that time, but these children have worked incredibly hard to achieve their position on Team England. As the old saying suggests 'You've got to be in it to win it' any English school can apply, festival or non festival. The emphasis of Dance World Cup is very much on the 'Team' these children know they are competing for their countries team, they have received a letter from the Queen congratulating them on past successes. Lets hope Team England once again bring home the Dance World Cup.
  3. We have been twice before but chose not to this year, although DD's school are there competing. Its a lot of fun and we enjoyed our time as part of Team England. It's a great opportunity to meet dancers from different countries and lovely for dancers who normally compete against each other to come together and compete as a team. Personally we wouldn't go again, but that is because DD is doing different things and our money is being channeled in another direction. It is very expensive, not just in the travel/accommodation costs, but the entry fees are too. I think if you are in a 'festival' school and that is your 'thing' its a lovely competition and a great experience. Its not going to particularly develop you as a dancer apart from in performance experience. I have been watching the live screen and don't think the standard this year is as high as it was last year in Romania, the year before in Portugal the standard was even higher. Team England is a huge team of high standard dancers, who enter the maximum number or dancers in most classes. A lot of other countries don't do this, some seem to be specialists in certain styles rather than having an all round good team. This is why England do so well as the team is very diverse.
  4. I can't get it either, ended up with clear furniture polish. Does the same job.
  5. My DD has been offered a place in Pre Seniors. Is there anyone else with experience of this level in year 11 and combining GCSE's and auditions with it? Could do with some advice please?
  6. Quite a few from groups 5 and 6 will be leaving. Some of the remaining group 5 will move up to 6, then there will be a knock on effect to the other groups. There will probably be a handful of places in each group.
  7. Yes still Miss Samaii Anna. And yes my DD has been offered a full time place at the school whilst at the CBA. It can happen
  8. There are 13 in group 6 now Taxi, it's far too many as they are 14-18 and are not small. It means that they often have to do centre work in two groups. Really makes DD and I grateful for the days when there were only 7 of them ???? the girls were spoilt then. I think group 5 has 15 on the register!
  9. She teaches at The Dorothy Colbourne School.
  10. Thank you Petalviolet. Don't think my reply was very helpful though ????????
  11. My DD will be missing too Petalviolet as she is injured. I have emailed too and am awaiting a reply.
  12. I've just been able to re-read it too. Is it just locked for further discussion but not for reading?
  13. I'd like to see the following, (not in any particular order, just as the thoughts come to me) A timetable Bio's of all teachers Syllabus taught Successes of other/former pupils Fees Region that festivals are competed in and whether they do All England or not. A duty of care statement/commitment to pupils well being and safety. Whether the principal of the school supports associate programmes etc How often pupils are entered for exams. Uniform Thats all I can think of for now.
  14. We know lots of RBS associates without flat bums!????
  15. Me neither Annaliesey it's certainly made me chuckle!????
  16. I've always found the Dance Dads to be far more easy going about the whole dance world!
  17. Then there's the 'festival braggers'..................???? I've been sat at a festival enjoying watching all the dancers, my daughter included. The mum I'm sat next to has 'bragged' non stop about how good her DD was, how she's really worked so hard on her dance, how proud she is of her and how she's sure to be placed. I sit there nodding and complimenting her DD waiting for her to say how nicely my DD danced too. It doesn't happen! My DD is placed, hers isn't and she stomps off without a word of congratulations. Then proceeds to make excuses for her DD in the dressing room while I keep my head down???? Sound familiar festival mums???
