  1. My DD had not long turned 15 last year when she did the SS. She was studying at Advanced 1 level, but there were lots of girls her school year in the senior SS. It was a challenging SS which was exactly what we were looking for. DD loved it and hoped to be going again this year. We stayed in the Premier Inn at Putney Bridge, not cheap but very close, only two tube stops down the line.
  2. Thank you Billyelliot, I thought I was going mad! Will phone them this morning,
  3. Is it just me? I've been looking on the ENBS website and can't find the application form for summer school although it says they are accepting applications now. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  4. Lily_83 please let us know how you get on? I make tutus with my eyes shut (Not exactly but you get what I mean ) but am defeated by these skirts as they always seem to grow somewhere along the line. I've not made one that my DD will wear yet!
  5. ScottishDancerMum, the theme to Forest Gump is a very pretty piano piece that I have seen a young girl dance classical ballet to at a recent festival.
  6. Has anyone who has applied for 2017 entry to the 6th form Dance Course been informed of this by the school? I wouldn't have known unless I'd read it in here and then looked myself.
  7. So I guess Golding won't be dancing in Sleeping Beauty on 3rd January either then if hes injured? I booked especially to see him
  8. We got confirmation yesterday too, but only after I rang. The lady on the phone was very nice but sounded slightly frazzled
  9. I agree with you ScottishDancerMum, it really isn't necessary for a very young dancer to have an expensive tutu. I often sigh to myself when the mother of a 6/7 year old comes to me for an elaborate tutu that will last a year at the most before they have to bring it back to be altered. A six year old tutu will take me the same amount of time to make as a ten year old so will be a similar price .I have made stretch ones and even sometimes just added net to a leotard myself, they look very pretty from the audience. Peer pressure has a lot to answer for. I think it would be a good idea if tiny dancers weren't allowed to wear structured tutus, just a skirted leotard maybe until they reach a certain age or one of the stretch tutus suggested above. I certainly make tutus for the love of the creative process not for the money as do all the other tutu makers I know. Stick to your beliefs and don't rush out and have a tutu made until you are sure your DD is going to enjoy competing. They make good birthday/Christmas presents!
  10. I make structured tutu's, they have approx 40-50 hours work in them, that's why they are expensive. Obviously you are getting a fully fitted costume for this number of hours and hopefully an individual design. I earn around minimum wage at the most for a skilled job and am never really able to charge for the 'real' number of hours I put in. Taxi is right, Irish dresses take even longer as often do National costumes.
  11. Jet glue and Shellac are very different though. Jet glue hardens the shoes much more and my DD found it isn't flexible like Shellac is. She found Jet glue hardens too much (she used to use it on the wings of her Freeds) and gave permanent painful creases if you get it in the wrong place, whereas Shellac you can manipulate it and soften it it you get in in a crease. Jet glue however is good for strengthening the shank area. We have bought clear French Polish instead of shellac and found although runnier, it does the same job.
  12. I've never seen them ready made, but if you know someone with a jigsaw and router you could ask them to make one. Alternatively I have used a plastic chopping board to stretch lycra costumes/leotards over.
  13. I (very easily) booked SB for 3rd Jan Lamb and Golding yesterday. Are we their only fans on here? Xmas pressies sorted for DD, myself and my Mum. I also thought £77 for Amphi was steep, sure I only paid £65 for The Winters Tale and similar for La Fille.
  14. You could try and clean them up a bit with baby/makeup wipes then calamine them?
  15. Thank you very much Bangorballetboy, I knew someone would be 'in the know' about these things. I will ring the shop you suggested????
  16. Posting this hear as it's not dance but is dancer related, so not sure this is the right place. I need some advice please. My DD and I wish to send flowers to a Principal dancer, we want to have them delivered to the stage door (ROH). Is there any particular eiitque I should follow? i.e. Specific supplier, type of flowers, anything that's deemed unsuitable etc. Also will the dancer get them? (She is likely to receive a lot!) or do they get sent off to a hospital or such like? I think it's going to cost me a lot of money which I'm happy to spend but not if she doesn't get them. Thoughts please?
  17. I watched via Facebook from the Bolshoi right through to the end of The Royal Ballet without many glitches, just the odd frozen screen.
  18. Please could I have them? Can pay via Paypal or bank transfer, whichever you'd prefer, if you can pm me your details? Thank you.
  19. I hope they haven't Bluebird as I really can't face another 'Photo shoot'
  20. No not yet Bluebird, I'm just going by last years forms. I may be wrong ????
  21. I'm afraid this pose is required for Central RBS and ENBS too, I consulted my spreadsheet
